I am 12 years old and I love trains back then. When I was 3 I watched your videos and watched them repeatedly. you are part of my childhood and you are in my heart and family anytime bro.
You know you've made when you not only bring more people into the train community but also inspire others to do your insane challenges! So cool that you managed to snag a ticket for this cool run! The map at 6:49 looks like it's definitely from the 1980s. As you brought up, the map has the H and the JFK Express aka the Train to the Plane. The NYC Subway used the H designator for the Rockaway Park Shuttle publicly on the map before 1993 (though of course the H was brought back between 2012 and 2013), and the JFK Express ran between 1978 and 1990. You can also see the K on the map which was the Eighth Ave Local (which ran between 168th St and WTC) that was discontinued in 1988.
As for the R211s you mentioned, while it's sadly not of course the entire R211 fleet, some R211s having open gangways is still a huge step in the right direction that they even have open gangways in the first place. Open gangways not only improve train capacity of course but also provide more space for people who use wheelchairs, bikes, strollers, or luggage, with the luggage part being a big plus for those going to JFK! On top of the wheelchair flip seats, the R211s are great for accessibility!

It was a great trip. My son and I, his best friend and his best friend's dad went on the first run. It was longer than expected due to the accident when another train struck a person (hopefully said person is ok). Also, due to the re-route, the MTATM staff was REALLY rushing us off the platform. Weren't even letting us take obligatory pics afterwards. I guess they were clearing the way for the second run (which you were on). Son was soooooo disappointed when he heard your were on the later run.

Sadly the Redbird went via WPR and I missed my chance to catch it, im definitely going to the MTA Christmas event from 2 Av to 145 St.
1:20 Doing all trains in the system straight can be challenging for most people, but would u say ur used to it? I hope u are, as you still have to do all night trains.

4:46 speaking of flying, I swear the R179 A I was on Thursday was zooming like extra fast between 34 st and West 4 st. I did not slow down which concerns me because it went fast on the curves to West 4th st. I think because there was no A train ahead of it.

I usually don’t like the front car on these events because it tends to be more crowded. Not that I don’t like the people, it’s just harder to find a good spot to take video.

F: Start at York Street, then board the train to 14th Street-6th Avenue, and transfer to the 1 there.
1: Board the train to Times Square-42nd Street; transfer to E there.
E: to 14th Street-8th Avenue; transfer to L there.
L: to 14th Street-Union Square; get off there and walk to Broadway-Lafayette Street; transfer to the D there.
D: to Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center; end there.
I remember riding those Red Birds on my first trips in the Big Apple while they were still in revenue service. It was the late 90s and early 2000s and I was a little kid then.

That 5 on the display means that all 5 cars of that train are abreast to the platform. The conductor cannot and should not open up or that 5 is not displayed. It's part of the conductors indication board. A 10 shows up at Union square on the 4 5 6 at the south bound side. It's part of the platform extensions

It was pretty great! I'd been to the South Ferry station before when they recommissioned it after Hurricane Sandy, but that was before I started making videos about the subway.

someone was struck by a train at 23RD STREET on the lexington avenue line
basically i was riding it and when it was heading towards manhattan, at 125 st lex av, it reversed and headed to the bronx again. the crew told us we were going to be going via the 2 instead of the 5.
then we were about to bypass JACKSON AV on white plains rd until we reversed and headed towards manhattan via the 5.
BRO WE HEARD THE SHARP 5 CURVE AT 149 ST GRAND CONCOURSE AT LEAST 6 TIMES

love the new new tech trains but nothing will ever beat the variety we used to have
Most recently I'm less about the trains themselves and more about accessibility. New-user experience on the R211 is superior to R143-179, and FAR superior everything before. But I do love these nostalgia rides.
Especially the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line. If they would of kept the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line running I gareete you the R62AS and the many colors Redbirds would of run on the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line for the Holidays season Christmas ⛄ and New year 🎊.
