    Thank you for this video. I was able to replace a Samsung S8+ battery using a very cheap heat gun from Argos...the GB-5A repair tool...a playing card (I recommend heating sections at a time whilst the card is between the case and glass) and a few other cheap tools for this kind of work. Took half hour in all. Didn't bother removing the bottom section...most finicky bit was connecting the finger sensor...plastic tweezers and a torch helped.

      Yeah, Samsung will wipe all the data on your phone just for a friggin battery replacement.

    Thanks for a good and accurate video. Be aware that it is very hard to take off the back cover without breaking the thin glass on it. I put it back on with the cracks on it, since I have a Samsung case around the phone anyway. Otherwise, I succesfully replaced the battery following this video. A magnifying glass is also a good help.

      My battery was bulging in Aug. 2023. It popped open a line on an entire long side of S8. Easy to remove the back plate with a thick magazine sheet with a little hair dryer heating. Far easier to open the lid than I expected. I only need to remove the the large charging pad (top at phone top edge). Don't understand why the video removed lots of other parts. None needed for me. Pried a battery side with a small gap. Blowed hair dryer (hi heat, low flow) air into the gap. Easy for me to remove battery. I expected a 7/10 job, but ended up rating it 4/10. Final result appears perfect cosmetically.

    No need to take out the "daughterboard". Or the lower speaker stuff. You only need to remove the antenna/wireless charging unit. Battery comes out fairly easy, even with all the glue.

      Thanks for your feedback! (: It's difficult to guarantee the device will be waterproof as when you received it from the factory. Anytime you break the original seals, you compromise this feature.

    • @larrypierce2777

      You must know if you attempt to break the seal, it will void the Warranty or any repairs by Samsung Servicing personnel. www.samsung.com/us/support/contact/

    • @johnposson
      @johnposson 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@larrypierce2777 Usually when people are doing this, the phone is already outside of the warranty period. Also While they can say that, certain courts have ruled that the simple act of an End User performing repairs on their device cannot be the grounds for voiding the warranty. There are multiple articles and court cases on this on the web if you wish to research it further.

      you just need to buy water resistant double tape sealing. Seeing what Samsung used here, it's actually adhesive. It's way worse than tape imo.

      I was wondering about resealing also. But isn't the issue more than just the back cover? Every part that had to be pried off had some sort of adhesive on it. Shouldn't all those parts ideally get new adhesive also?

    you cant take them off without having a new back cover, because you need the adhesive

    • @user-tm3fz7qx3s
      @user-tm3fz7qx3s 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you can just tear the old adhesive off, and then apply some new strips back on.

    • @JA-rn5qv
      @JA-rn5qv 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You don't need a new back cover, you just need to get a kit that includes a new gasket and make sure to remove all of the old gasket material before you apply the new one. After you have applied the new gasket, you then replace the original back cover and make sure it is sealed all the way around and then you are done.

    If I had to go through all this to replace a battery, I simply WOULDN'T buy the phone. Or I would take it in and have it replaced. It's just not worth the risk of goobling up something taking apart all those fragile connections.

      I agree about not buying the phone with a procedure this invasive just to replace the battery. But honestly it's like 20 minutes of work if you follow the steps. 20 minutes of work vs another few hundred dollars? Easy choice.

    • @guyrouillier
      @guyrouillier 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@snoozing68 I have an LG G5 with a replaceable battery - one of the reasons I got it. But that was the last phone LG made with a replaceable battery - all subsequent models have sealed bodies like this Samsung. They do it because making a phone water and dust resistant is impossible with a replaceable battery. So, you're going to have a hard time finding a current phone that has an easily replaceable battery.
