    The difference between this and some very popular youtube channels is that this appears to be a truly unbiased presentation. One thing that has been stressed to me repeatedly by medical professionals is that passionate medical professionals passionately believe in the tools they master and wield in the fight against cancer. We need to ask, "Is this subtly persuasive narrative or does it represent informed scientific skepticism?" This passed the test for me as informed scientific skepticism. That makes sense, as a head of an academic department needs to be on the side of everyone on his team, not just a subset.

    I had robotic assisted radical prostatectomy one month ago with Dr Wayne Brisbane at UCLA. My cancer was a 4+3. I can control my bladder 100%. Sexually things work very well, I’m already active again in the last week. Sensation is even better than before the surgery! I almost can’t believe it. There is some pelvic soreness afterwards but it’s manageable. I am in my 50s and eat a very healthy diet and my sexual ability was strong before surgery. I’m so grateful for Dr Brisbane and the nurses and all the people at UCLA who treated me! It seems I got the very best treatment in the world.

    Appreciate the info.
    Diagnosed three years ago, Gleason 3+3=6. PSA fluctuates from 4 to 9.5; currently at 5.2
    My urologist initially sent me to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for a consultation.
    Was told at that time I'd die of old age before prostate cancer.
    Thought very little about it after that-
    Was 60 years old at time of diagnosis. 3 years later now, of active surveillance/ digital exams / MRI's / biopsy,
    I'm now being encouraged to consider surgery. Told I'm a prime candidate; in overall excellent health, 20+ year life expectancy..
    So,
    Changed my diet to salads, veggies, fish, nuts, fruits - cut out red meat entirely, sometimes eat some chicken.
    Work with weights and walk a lot. Shoot for 20 miles a day most days walking. 10 miles minimum.
    If nothing else I feel better and blood pressure has gone down.
    The more I research and talk with people who have undergone treatment / removal, the more I'm convinced that for me,
    to continue with active surveillance/ diet/ exercise / walking.
    From what I see, the doctors consider the eradication of the cancer (in itself) to be a success story,
    However, for me that's not the entire equation-
    Quality of life, after treatment plays a huge role as well, at least for me.
    Statistics mean nothing if you happen to fall in to "that number"..
    Currently, other than being told I have prostate cancer, I wouldn't know I have it.
    Another treatment option I was initially presented with is HIFU.
    For me, radiation is off the table..

      I’m 45, I was diagnosed with 3+3=6 Gleason. Hopefully next biopsy will not be higher. I’m strongly encouraged that I need to have radical prostactomy. Supposedly in my age and with my tumour location, I should live a quality life where I might not even need viagra. I’m in Europe and I can afford going to the best hospital that specializes in prostactomy (Hamburg, Germany) but I am not sure, what if things go wrong and I won’t be able to have sex. Of course staying alive is my first priority, but I haven’t been able to find a doctor who I can go through my questions and concerns deeply. They usually just say that I’m lucky they found it because tumour is kind of large for my age and that it will have to go out sooner or later. Sorry, just wanted to share…

    Thank you doctor for this educational video. I had my Prostrate removed in October 2023 robotically. When home the next day. I attempted physical therapy for about 3 months. I’m feel great 👍. My PSA is undetectable. My doctor was Dr. Trushar Patel, MD. Here at USF Heath. Tampa Florida. Very little leakage. I still wear depends for any accidents. I’m 65 years old. Thank you again doctor 🧑‍⚕️ Amen. 🙏

    I am a 70yo male, my biopsy showed cancer in all 12 sample of my biopsy so my dr recommended surgical removal of the prostate and it was then determined that 6o% of the prostate was a cancerous tumor. After surgery i had all clear edges and no cancer in any lymph nodes. My surgery was 13 days ago and im healing very well but my issue is incontinence that i am having a very difficult time accepting. If i was told i would live 10 years without surgery i would have chose that kniwing what i know now. Im really hoping the incontenence improves i keep hearing if a wide variety of results.

    The problem I see with shopping for a surgeon is that it takes weeks on end to get in talk with any of them if they have a good reputation.
    All the while the clock is ticking and tumor is growing.
    The Doc that did my biopsy said that since my prostate is partially atrophied fromI previous pelvic radiation (2010 CRC) that I would be totally incontinent after RP.
    That statement definitely made me want to seek some other opinions.

    If you can get laser surgery to remove the cancer - do it. Go the laser route. There is very very limited tissue cutting, very very few stitches. If any. And laser surgery is more precise and less evasive.

    I know this is an older video couple years back, but he mentioned a pre-rehabilitation and I’m wondering if he is referring to having an issue with the erection prior. If you do not have any issue with an erection should you still take Viagra prior to the surgery? That part was not clear.

    • @SteveSpinella

      Depending on the rest of his health, no treatment may be needed. Almost everyone lives at least 5 years after stage 1 diagnosis, and a high majority live 15 years (like 85%). Since any treatment is going to be a challenge, active surveillance becomes more attractive. If treatment was deemed necessary, ADT (androgen deprivation therapy) might be an attractive option as it is non-invasive, just changing hormones. This is mentioned in the video you watched here.

      This is a warning to all prostate cancer sufferers. I was diagnosed with invasive prostate cancer in 2016. I was given 3 options for the cancer and the best treatment option was given to me. The options were removal, radiotherapy, or brachytherapy, which if chosen would set me back personally around USD 15000. I decided on the third option as it was made out to be the discovery of the century. We sold off a lot of items to raise the money for the procedure. What a bad decision! I had the procedure, paid my money up front, and since then my life has been ruined by this treatment. First I had to use a catheter for 7 months, 4 times a day, then I went down for a cystoscopy, and contracted a dangerous bug in my bladder that went to my blood stream. The next day I went down, actually died, as my breathing stopped due to collapsed lungs. Lucky my son lives two streets from a hospital, as I was pronounced dead on arrival, as my lungs and heart had stopped from the effects of the bug. Since then I have been hospitalized, with a recurrence of the same bug. And I have just been diagnosed with a wrecked bladder and wrecked urethra, all due to this brachytherapy radiation. So people, be very careful if ever offered that option. They never warned me of the after effects, just the good things. I hope this helps someone, even one person from that awful treatment life was very dangerous and hard for me until i met an old friend of mine in the hospital who told me about DR HARVEY and how he cures different people with various diseases with his natural herbs and roots and i requested for his contact information and contacted him purchased the herbal medicine he gave me instructions on how to administer it and i believed him and followed his instructions after 2 weeks of consumption i went to the hospital the fourth week and carried out a test and behold i'm totally healed and cured i'm forever grateful to DR HARVEY you are a blessing to this world thanks for all you do sir.

    If you are say 70 or older, most likely you will survive another 10 or even 15 years w/o treatment which equates to no treatment-caused side effects and no complications. Then why would anyone want to opt treatment (surgery or radiation) and hence live the next 10 or 15 years with incontinency plus other side effects?

      The other thing to consider is that treatment gets better and better as time passes. If you wait 5 or 10 years there might be a new form of treatment not available today.

    • @SteveSpinella
      @SteveSpinella 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anything can happen, but this isn't a major concern. I think the nerves you're referring to are the ones that signal the blood flow for an erection. One thing to be aware is that this is an injury to the prostate, and it will take several weeks to heal. Also the access, whether transurethral or transperineal (through the skin) may take some time to heal. This kind of physical trauma has at least a psychological effect on a person, but this can vary tremendously, and is something that we can recover from psychologically as well if it is a problem.

    My Urologist said prostate cancer can' be detected on a cat scan.is this true

    • @SteveSpinella
      @SteveSpinella 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      An abdominal CT scan is important to rule out the spread of cancer beyond the prostate, as this would alter treatment choices. For the prostate itself, an mp-MRI (multiparameter magnetic resonance image) provides more detail than a CT scan, so this would be the preferred view unless a fancy PETscan was available, usually not done because it's still rare and very pricey.

    • @BigZWD
      @BigZWD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Having a scan in 2 weeks, it's only for to see if the cancer is out of the prostate, which will probably change your treatment options. Also I'm having a bone scan with contrast for Sam reason, good luck
