Thank you so much for making this!! I struggled with this when using specialty nail powders like chrome or linear holo powder pigments, which work best buffed into a cured gel top coat, but I always used regular polish colours as the base. This definitely makes more sense now! Suzie to the nail rescue!
Ya it can be so frustrating sometimes! - i only stumbled across this cross product combo when a client wanted her FAV nail polish colour to act like a Gel Polish - ( cause i didnt have her FAV colour in Gel ) so i tried this technique - so cool we can share our techniques - if you ever wanna troubleshoot together - im in👍🏼 Truth be told- Im so jealous of your new wall of polish 💜
I like to put on two thin layers of a gel base coat, file the shiny part off, put regular polish on top of that, let it dry for like an hour, and top it with a gel top coat. I couldn't afford a bunch of gel colors so I started doing this instead and I haven't had any problems, as long as I do thin coats 😊
Kayla Hill oh no not as long as full gel, but quite a bit longer, way longer than just regular polishes ..thet don't last me 2 days! If your really wanting it to last really long try a soak off "builder in a bottle" no need to "sandwich" in the hard way just apply it over hold hands upside down for a perfect apex n nuke 60 seconds I use Luxio from www.thenailhub.com I showed it im a video back in Feb u get conversation hearts there's a link to buy listed on video too.. super easy vs sandwich method shown before and no burn.. you can apply it thinner cure add on more as it is a builder too.. wont peel off hope it helps ya I might need to do more videos on doing that as it's so easy you can remove decorations above color without upsetting your fave color too! I hope you'll watch n sub me too I am loaded with info.. I honestly though everyone did this.. when I started with gels I didn't know they weren't supposed to be used together. I always used a gel top since my first gel mani!
i've been looking for an answer to this question for months and everyone just said that you're not supposed to use them together. thank you so much for helping me cheat the '"rules" of nail polish!
I like to polish my nails with regular polish at night, then the next morning, I use a clear gel topcoat. My nail polish lasts about 2 weeks or more this way - if I don’t get bored and change them first. Plus they stay super shiny. Great tip!
Thank you so much for this tip! I can't afford a lot of gel colors but I have like a million of regular nailpolish. This really helps me to do a lot of fun stuff on my nails now. You are the best! Thank you ❤️🌹
Tracy U check out a video I loaded today I tested 5 different regular polishes all work perfect for me.. only ever had one not worked, and it didn't dry as regular polish anyway!! I'm letting them sit out to really test click my pic it's the last upload I did
Been doing this for ages, because I love & own so many colors that just don't come in a gel format. It doesn't last as long as a straight gel manicure, but it does last longer for me than regular polish & topcoat alone. I reccomends to everybody 👍
Sarah Walker if you put regular polish ON TOP of gelpolish or gel topcoat it will last for several weeks without chipping :) I’ve been doing this for 8 years now :) Just buff off the shine of the topcoat and then regular polish and regular topcoat. Also super easy to change the color without having to spend time on soak off :p
Negle Lir me too I was literally floored not everyone wasn't doing it .. I saw a few of my subs shocked here so I uploaded 5 I tested, dried in real time too! all worked just great! Only ever had isdue with one brand but it didn't want to dry anyway!! So I turned it into a gel lol
How long do you usually wait for the regular nailpolish to dry before applying the gel top coat? I've read that it might take up to 24 hours for regular nailpolish to wait. Should I wait a whole day?
Annie I don't wait at all just until it's dry I have a video on real time and a follow up where I put them through a few tests to make sure they were working well click my pic to see the two videos! I tested out 5 brands all in real dry time shown! I'd post a link but donr Wanna Spam here it's pics of red n a pink polish.. it really deeds work no need to wait 24 hours that's too long regular polishes would chip on me by then! I just wait until dry out ly ever had 1 problem and that polish never did dry! I turned it into a gel with hydracol instead! I'd love if you watched n subbed! I'm making a hand stand much like Susie's too.. will be showing how soon! Oh here's lonk to first video: th-cam.com/video/RMjDqqpKEgY/w-d-xo.html I did a follow up after 48 hours and a few tests to prove it works!
How do you remove? Do you buff the top and then remove the polish with a regular polish remover? What is the best/easiest way to remove the colour with this mixed technic?
Omg, Im so glad you made this. Im new to gel, but have over 100 regular polishes. I wanted to use gel to make it last longer! Now I can without the bad results I was having before!
Pearl Ooi Honestly, I only do my nails with regular lacquer and unless I’m freehanding with paint, or adding crystals/studs, I’ll wait a couple hours before the top coat. My biggest tip if you’re waiting like that is to wipe your nails down with alcohol to remove any dirt or oils you picked up.
I've been waiting for someone to do a video like this!!! I'm not a professional by any means. But I've experimented and figured this out on my own.Glad you educated us on this.😊 I've found that if you put a top coat like Seche Vite, Glisten and Glows (formally HK Girl), or Out the Door or any one of those fast drying top coats and let it dry completely for like a half hour to an hour it won't wrinkle either. I like this alternative because for 1. your polish won't smudge while you wait for your polish to dry and 2. I think it's healthier for your nails because you're not needing to remove all those layers of gel polish with either filing or soaking. Which can make your nails weaker. Thank you Suzie!!! 👍👍👍
Could listen to you all day! You don’t go off point and start talking about things we don’t want to hear! You get straight to it! Love your tutorial 😍😍
I've found that if you don't cure your gel polish properly, that can happen as well. Say you have too thick of a coat of a dark color, the UV/LED light won't cure it all the way through, when you put the next layer on (or the top coat) it'll wrinkle up around the edges and the uncured gel with leak out the sides.
Disco Kittii Im sorry, but thats some of the first you learn when you take an education or at least educate yourself (research) ... Its like “I found out that when I put my hands under the water they get wet” ...
Negle Lir Oh, I’m sorry I’m not as educated as you are. 🙁 I’m still learning. So, if this is something that everyone knows, then why would it be a surprise that it happens between regular polish and gel?
No, this is NOT something that everyone knows. Don't worry, girl. I have done this a couple times myself before. You learn from it and move on! That's it. :)
Disco Kittii I went to school for nails & it does happen sometimes especially with black u don't have to be educated that was rude I have lots \years of experience & it still happens here & there
Disco Kittii yes! It's happened to me. Opi and shellac are notorious for that. You have to do thin coats with those. Madam glam, however, never does that. Easy thicker coats no problem.
I asked a nail tech for a gel top coat over my polished nails and she laughed in my face saying “You can’t do that.” Well, you can… Suzie said so! 😄 I like how sturdy a gel coat is. Usually it was too thick for my preference if I got the whole base, color and top coat.
Well in your nail technicians defence she is technically correct. Nail polish and gel polish were not designed to work together so I can see why she would be against it. I only know what works because I experimented when a client asked me to put a gel coat over top of her dried nail polish. I to was sceptical, But I thought what the hell let’s just try it and see if it works and to my surprise it did we were both really happy that we’ve discovered that
I also do a regular base coat (Orly bonder) under gel polish color with a quick dry polish top coat. It lasts longer than just polish but is easier to remove than gel polish.
I tend to do nail designs using a variety of mediums (gel polish, regular nail polishes, acrylic paints etc), and found that all mediums can be used in the same nail design, on the same nail, and work fabulously. Every single medium must be dried/cured before the next goes down to prevent smearing. Once the nail is completely dry, it can be gel topcoated and look fantastic until the design is changed :)
I have done this so many times and I also noticed when I did do this the polish was still wet under the gel polish. Making me believe that the polish shrinks when naturaly drying and putting the gel on top then curing, makes the gel shrink with the still wet polish underneath creating all the wrinkles. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!! YOU ROCK!! Thanks again, Suzie!
Omg Suzie, you have no idea how much I’ve been waiting for this! I just did this last night on my mom‘s nails and I figured out that I needed to use a polish that could just be applied in one coat and then it didn’t wrinkle or dent, but that can be hard and could take a long time to find one coat polishes. So I still need help. Thank you so much for creating this video!!! 😆😊❤️
Moonstone Magic you just have to let all layers of the polish dry before you apply the gel ;) I’ve done it with a sheer pink, it took 4 coats, let it dry 5-10 min. Between coats and around 45 minutes afterward. Then do the gel and no problem ;)
Thanks for making this Suzie! I've been avoiding painting my nails because I use regular polish and working in a hospital, I have to wash my hands constantly and polish won't survive more than a day or two. I'm looking forward to using my regular polish with a gel top coat and seeing what I can accomplish 😁
I always wondered about combining gel and traditional polish, but never took the time to experiment. Thanks to you, now I know exactly what to avoid. Suzie, you're the best! 😘
OMG Ms. Susie I have had that to happen to me soooooo many times because I just love the shine that gel top coat gives. Thank you for this video. Know I know what happened & what I need to do.
I tried this trick and omg!!!! It has made my nails look amazing. The drying makes a huge difference. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve never had such beautiful looking nails AND they look so professional.
I started doing that when I started nail. I would do designs and then would have to be in acetone at school and would ruin my nails. So I decided to try with a gel top coat and it worked so thats what I do for my nails! Today also is my last day at nail technician school and will be graduating the 25th of this month!. I'm so excited and I always tell everyone who has no idea on what they are doing to always watch your videos cause they will learn a lot and more than what we get taught in school since they teach just the basics.
Can you review a product called Sensational or sensasionail it's a polish transformer that takes regular polish and turns it inton "gel polish" and you cure it under a light. It would be cool to see what you think about it
Jenny , YES! That’s just what I was thinking about. I’ve also heard that you can blend any gel polish with a regular polish in a half to half ratio, and then the plain polish will be turned to a gel polish. I’d like the pros to confirm.
Jenny Sensationail polish to gel works really well. I use it as a top gel over polish and have never experienced any issues. It also comes with a small mixing pot so you can combine the product with polish before painting it on. Personally I’ve never tried mixing before applying and curing but I love the product as a top gel over dried regular polish. It wears so well on me (over acrylic or gel enhancements) and stays put until I switch out my design without chipping. I’ve never tried it on a natural nail though. Hope this helps x
honeybadgerzs thanks for your input :) . I know it works because I have it I just want to see her thoughts on it and that way more people know about it becauae I've never seen anyone actually try it so when I first bought it I was skeptical and I didnt know what to expect and it's also not super cheap so it would be worth people knowing if its worth the money if they're on a budget :)
honeybadgerzs , yes that’s true Young’s Nails has Conversion Top Coat which I use and love this system of nails. You do have to completely dry the mail and then add the top coat. If you don’t wait and rush before four minutes and then add top coat you’re going to get shrinkage and that rippling effect like Suzie. His product is wonderful and colours are like $6.95 per bottle here in Canada and I get my through Cosmoprof. Saved me lot of money on nail polish cause I don’t have lot of gel colours but lot of regular ones. I just did a set on me and used Morgan Taylor polish non gel and added gel on top and honestly I’m in love with the way my nails turned out and price👏🏻
I often use this method on my nails, because i don't have much gel polish but i do have a rather large collection of normal nail polish. Always works for me and it lasts for weeks instead of just a few days.
I tried this on my clients yesterday because i don't have alot of gel color but other regular colors that are beautiful and I'm afraid that the nails might go bad. I decided to check if it's possible to use the nail polish and gel polish together and I saw this video. Thank you so much for this. Now i can worry no more
I've actually been doing this for awhile now, took some experiments. What I do when I want chrome nails with a color I have as regular polish, I do my nails regularly with base, 2 coats, seche vite as top coat. I wait several hours, then add gel. It doesn't peel and stays for a really long time.
u can mix top coat with regular polish and create gel polish. 50/50 mix - it will lighten the color so u may need 2 or 3 coats. and they actually make a gel to add to regular polish specifically.
Giulietta De Carlo I to do this. But my client doesn't want to wait an hour for them to dry. So they prefer the gel colors because of how quick and convenient they are
Relevant .C don't think it works that way. However, there is something that you can add you regular polish to make it a gel, but I don't know the name. Sorry.
I am repairing my nails after having acrylics on for a long time. I love having my nails done, but hate how fast regular polish chips off. I use two very thin layers of nail strengthener and then apply my gel polish on top! It works great! I know they make gel strengthener, but I feel like they are still sucking the moisture out of my nails and damaging it! I kept trying to find content to see if it would work or shorten the length of wear time. Glad you did a video on this!
Suzie just love you and your videos. I thought it was my curing lamp was going bad and needed new lamps. My is an UV 48 Watts not LED and wish I had that one and newer model. The rippling was caused by not drying the nail long enough. I use whatever I have in my supplies like Caption or gellish or whatever gel system you have and it still ripples and shrunk. Now I know it’s not my machine. Thanks so much for sharing and explaining so well. Knowledge is powerful👏🏻💕
Great video Suzie!! I know some don't know as I've told them right here too.. but I've been doing it long before I learned you weren't supposed to do it lol I had no idea but it worked!. Some do brands work better than others.. like you said companies are not responsible! ! Wrinkling will happen even to a partially cured gel where the bottom layers are not cured through! ! I've even encapsulated them with soak off hard gels.. no issues... if it is fully dry.. and compatible. . I wait a good half hour then to be certain (some say 24 hours.. I'm too impatient lol) I also turn regular into gels at times too.. Hydracol works wonders on dried up old regular polish...I'm talking decades old stuff too.. was dry in the bottle but I loved it.. and missed the color!! My first nail design that I uploaded back in February. .. Have u ever mixed regular polish with gel? More translucent but has worked for me too!!
I have a similar situation. I have about 80 regular nail polishes and I want to do gel nails for quiet a while, but it's a waste to throw them away or leave them in the closet while they slowly dry out. Now that I know gel works over regular polish, I should maybe try that.
u can mix top coat with regular polish and create gel polish. 50/50 mix - it will lighten the color so u may need 2 or 3 coats. and they actually make a gel to add to regular polish specifically.
Thank you so much! I did my 1st gel + normal polish 4 days ago and im so, so happy! I always wanted to try gel polish for durability but i was afraid of getting allergy. Now when gel is only a top layer I'm not so concerned and free edge is still completely sealed and didn't peel - it happened to me before the next day of applying normal polish, and everything else was coming off in 3 days. Now when I'm writing it's my 4th day of wear and NOTHING is coming off, even free edge is not peeling in any place :)
This technique has been around for years!! Usually it’s referred to as a jelly sandwich where you apply a base then your nail polish, let that dry and then seal it with gel top coat. I used to do this a lot when I was making the transition from nail polish to gel polish. Not something new but still thanks for bringing it on your platform to share.
@@DonnaLew52no you have to use normal nail polish base coat! Because your color nail polish will only adhere on the nail polish base coat, And not on the gel base coat! Only use gel top coat. Not gel base coat.
Thank you, Suzie! I've been struggling with this issue the past couple weeks while experimenting with chrome powder over different base colors. Since it has worked for me before, I couldn't figure out why it was wrinkling. You're the best!
I have so many beautiful nail polishes I bought when I started doing my nails myself I have recently started a press on nail business and The gel shine is unmatched I’m glade to know I can do this !
This was so HELPFUL, In no way a pro but I am a stay a home mum and my nail polish chips every time I do the dishes so I bought a UV Lamp and I have so many beautiful nail polish colours and only 1 gel nail polish colour and I was wondering if I could use my normal polish with a gel top coat. This is amazing 😍👏🏻 yay
Hi there. I have acrylics and when I have a fill I have them put on a white gel colour and a top coat. When I get home I can either do some stamping on the white or I can put colour over the white with regular nail polish then stamp on the polish. Currently it’s been two weeks since I cover my nails with stamped flowers, this is on blue and purple nail polish over top of the white gel colour. It looks as good today as when I first put it on.
I have been doing this for years because I couldn’t afford to buy every color of gel polish but I still wanted that gel polish shine and longevity. Now the secret is out haha 🙈 I would love to see you do a video on different types of lamps! Recently, my led lamp stopped working and doesn’t completely cure my gels so I’m in the market for a new one. You could even explain for beginners the difference between LED and UV lamps ☺️
The timing for this video is amazing. I have so many regular nail polishes its all I use. I had a decent top coat but my job is very hands on so it chips easily and it cracks in a few days. I bought a nail lamp and top coat hoping to see if they would work together, my first attempt did wrinkle. My second didn't and my design survived over a week before I saw a small chip.
I know this is older, but thank you for this! I'm a single mom and started doing my own gel nails, but could NOT afford to replace all my favorite colors with gel polish and couldn't figure out why when I tried this some of my nails did fine and others didn't. Now I know! :-)
I often use a normal nail polish on top of gel polish - if I need a mani but haven’t got time or I just want a colorchange... I tried once to put gel topcoat on top and they did just what you showed us - even though I waited an hour before the topcoat... so now I just use a normal topcoat instead of gel :)
Yes it works! 🙌 I have a few favourite nude shades of regular polish that aren’t available in the gel formula, and O used a gel top coat in them the day after I painted my nails. No wrinkles or anything!
I just a received a beautiful pink from my ipsy subscription and wanted to use it without worrying about it chipping off in two days. Thank you Suzie, for this tip. Pretty pink toes and fingers, here I come!
I just started doing this last week every timeout get home after I get my nails professionally done so I don’t have to pay extra for shellac!!!!!! You read my mind!!
Another way you can do this is to encapsulate the polish into acrylic, but just like you said it must be dry. I usually go by “touch dry” so if I don’t leave a fingerprint on the polish it’s good to go
Somehow my penchant for doing nails a step at a time throughout the day served me well here. 😃. Without knowing any better, I did things right, I guess. I put a fast dry top coat over the polish and then hours later used the gel... It worked out fine for me somehow, even though I have since learned that I should lightly file the top coat to a lightly rougher texture. Sometimes lack of knowledge works. Other times....
I have been doing this alot because I want to use all of my nail polish colours without having to buy them in gel, but I like how strong the gel base and top coat make my nails feel and how they never chip like normal polish
SensatioNail has a product that you can mix with regular nail polish and it's supposed to turn it into gel. Can find it at Target for about $10. I haven't tried it but I'm tempted to
I've do this all the time even tho you aren't supposed to. It is also important to use new or fresh polishes, I have done this with kind of used up polishes and put the top coat literaly a day after I painted them and it got wrinkly with time.
I always do this however I use OPI RapidDry spray and use liberally, to speed the drying process. About 12 minutes under the dryer, then gel topcoat and ready to go!
I do a normal mani with regular polish (base, color and quick dry top coat) and let dry over night. The next morning ill do two layers of gel topcoat, cap the edges, and itll make the regular polish a lot longer!
I love doing this, Sensationail also makes a polish to gel transformer to mix in with polishes that's great. I also just mix in regular top coat gel with my regular polishes & that does the trick!
Suzie, I do this all the time, but first I use Out the Door topcoat and then I follow up with the gel topcoat. I dont think I have had the wrinkling effect while doing it this way. I know I certainly have had them using regular topcoat or none at all. 😁
Wow I'm impressed of myself right now for thinking of this😂. I used to do that when I was 15. The removal is very easy also. You file off the top coat and then remove like any regular Polish manicure. I also tried regular top coat over gel but found out it doesn't work. * what I do now is do acrylic dip with tips, apply the nail Polish over, let it dry for a lot of hours just to be sure (if the polish is on an enhancement it won't peel off while you are waiting like it would in natural nails ) and then apply the gel top coat.
I love this videos ! I just had a experience at the nail salon where they didn’t dry down the nails and they add gel top coat and this just exactly like you explain happened! Thanks for sharing a great advice 🙌🏻🙂
This is very useful info I’ll be sure to tell the girls at work about this, it’s incredible though how when the nail polish is dry the uv topcoat works better? Thanks for sharing💞💕💖💗💝💓💞💕💖💗💓💝
Amazing tips! The dilemma I had is that I don't want to buy repeat shades of my regular polishes in gel form but I want the amazing cement properties of gel top coat and I want to use those cat eye magnetic holographic top coats over my regular polish. Would it work if I put the nail polish color first, use the magnetic gel, cure it and then put top coat? Or should I put top coat, cure it and then put the magnetic one? Further experiments are needed!!
Just did this tonight! Hopefully my polish lasts longer. I use my hands a lot at work, and I was getting chips in my polish within a day! Had to detox my nails and skin around my nails because of an allergic reaction to a primer for the builder gel nails I was doing, but my nails and skin is starting to heal, so it’s worth it!
Thank you so much Suzie! I've had this problem before when wanting to use a gel top coat for buffing on holographic powders. Suzie always knows how to save the day
So glad I watched this as I let my color dry.... I was going to wait like 15 minutes before adding the gel. I would have been so annoyed had I done it! Thank you so much!!!
Been doing that for years coz I just refused to buy too many additional gel colour gels. It does work but it would crack or shrink if u apply too much or too thick of nail polish. I find applying a gel base coat first helps make the nail polish react better to the gel topcoat.
I put regular polish on top of gel polish all the time. and it helps to dry the regular polish faster, and stays for weeks. Its an easy overlay, by doing 3-4 coats of gel base and top coat. then put regular polish on top for all my designs.
Thank you for this! I finally invested in a lamp and some polish but I was bummed that I couldn’t use my regular colors that I really love. I’ve been trying to find dupes in gel colors but no luck. But this makes me so excited!
Great video! I apply two coats of regular nail polish and dry overnight. In the morning, I apply a very thin coat of DND mermaid and thin coat of gel topcoat. It last about 3 weeks and looks fantastic!
Susie, I love your channel and videos. Thank you for this great tip. Unrelated, but to my eyes, you resemble Valerie Bertinelli soooooo much. She is beautiful, and so are you! 💜💅🏼
Ahhh you read my mind!!! I was just looking into this yesterday and was hoping to find a video about it! Thank you Suzie! May I ask, what's the removal process like for this nail polish + gel top coat combo though? Do you still have to soak/use a drill to change colors?
I've actually done this the other morning, I needed a super quick pedicure before wearing sandals that day, so I used 1 coat regular polish (so no buffing & prep required) then go about my business getting ready, then finally 1 gel top coat before heading out the door...it's been on 1 week now, super shiny and no chipping! Just wondering what is the best way of taking it off now... Will I still need to soak in acetone, or can I just rub with nail polish remover?
Hi ! Can I use regular polish on gel nails? Without using base and top gel polish ? I have close to 200 polishes and don't like acrylics anymore. So if I use gel nails from Apres, can I use regular nail polish with a top coat ,,,,I think the answer is yes but want to be sure. I have a huge collection of nail polishes and would hate to have to start a gel polish collection. Crossing my fingers my question makes sense😉 thanks a bunch 🤗
Thanks for this Susie! I tried searching all over the internet to find out if you could use a gel top coat on top of regular nail polishes, and of course most of the articles were written by makers of gel polish, and of course they were all saying NO it can NOT be done. I desperately want to try my cats eye gel polish I got for an Xmas present, but I don't have any black gel polish for the base color. So I wanted to know if I could use my regular nail polish with a gel top coat just until the black gel polish I ordered comes in. Would you suggest any special instructions for doing this? Or just put on the black, let it dry completely, then do the gel top coat and continue on like it was all gel? Many thanks in advance
Thank you so much for making this!! I struggled with this when using specialty nail powders like chrome or linear holo powder pigments, which work best buffed into a cured gel top coat, but I always used regular polish colours as the base. This definitely makes more sense now! Suzie to the nail rescue!

Ruby Rhubarb yeah I always use gel base I originally didn't know they weren't compatible I just did it!! Lol
About how long does this last you? As long as a regular gel manicure?
Kayla Hill Yeah, usually 2 weeks, or until I'm annoyed with the growth haha
Kayla Hill oh no not as long as full gel, but quite a bit longer, way longer than just regular polishes ..thet don't last me 2 days! I second that - just starting out and have very few gel colors. They're expensive, right? Thank you, Suzie! :)

When I have a lot of anxiety or when I’m stressed, I watch your videos, because your voice calms me down. So thank you!
Omg, Im so glad you made this. Im new to gel, but have over 100 regular polishes. I wanted to use gel to make it last longer! Now I can without the bad results I was having before!
I usually let my normal polished nails dry for at least a few hours before applying the gel topcoat. Done it for years
Pearl Ooi Honestly, I only do my nails with regular lacquer and unless I’m freehanding with paint, or adding crystals/studs, I’ll wait a couple hours before the top coat.
My biggest tip if you’re waiting like that is to wipe your nails down with alcohol to remove any dirt or oils you picked up.
verdant-witch I was wondering about the dirt/oil accumulated while waiting...thanks. All I need is patience now lol
yoyo yo I just wash & dry my hands thoroughly just before applying the gel topcoat as I would've been doing other stuff too in the hours between
What type of gel top coat do you use?
@Athenäs acetone
I've been waiting for someone to do a video like this!!! I'm not a professional by any means. But I've experimented and figured this out on my own.Glad you educated us on this.😊
I've found that if you put a top coat like Seche Vite, Glisten and Glows (formally HK Girl), or Out the Door or any one of those fast drying top coats and let it dry completely for like a half hour to an hour it won't wrinkle either.
I to was sceptical, But I thought what the hell let’s just try it and see if it works and to my surprise it did we were both really happy that we’ve discovered that
Well of course they're going to tell you you can't do it. Because they charge more for gel nail polish.
Moonstone Magic you just have to let all layers of the polish dry before you apply the gel ;)
I’ve done it with a sheer pink, it took 4 coats, let it dry 5-10 min. Between coats and around 45 minutes afterward. Then do the gel and no problem ;)
Moonstone Magic same!😂
Thanks for making this Suzie!
I literally just bought my first gel polish/gel top coat, how did you know I needed this?!!??
I started doing that when I started nail. I would do designs and then would have to be in acetone at school and would ruin my nails. So I decided to try with a gel top coat and it worked so thats what I do for my nails! Today also is my last day at nail technician school and will be graduating the 25th of this month!. I'm so excited and I always tell everyone who has no idea on what they are doing to always watch your videos cause they will learn a lot and more than what we get taught in school since they teach just the basics.
Great video! I let the nail polish dry 24 hours and put the gel coat on top it and used my lamp. It worked perfectly
Idk why but Suzie's voice is so therapeutic ❤️
She literally sounds like an aunt that you could always run to when you're thirsty for life advice.
P.s I believe young nails also make a similar product, conversion topcoat.
honeybadgerzs thanks for your input :) .
The mix of your creativity and expertise are the perfect match.
I like using a stronger gel over varnish colours like a clear thin coat of builder cure it then apply top coat for extra shine ☺
shivy690 do you wipe off the inhibition layer before adding top coat?
Yassssss❤❤❤❤❤
I often use this method on my nails, because i don't have much gel polish but i do have a rather large collection of normal nail polish. Always works for me and it lasts for weeks instead of just a few days.
I tried this on my clients yesterday because i don't have alot of gel color but other regular colors that are beautiful and I'm afraid that the nails might go bad. I decided to check if it's possible to use the nail polish and gel polish together and I saw this video. Thank you so much for this. Now i can worry no more
I just started using this technique few weeks ago and it works 😊
Thank you so much for making this. This explains why my Seche Vive Gel Effect Top Coat wrinkled every time I used it on top of regular polished.
I've actually been doing this for awhile now, took some experiments. What I do when I want chrome nails with a color I have as regular polish, I do my nails regularly with base, 2 coats, seche vite as top coat. I wait several hours, then add gel. It doesn't peel and stays for a really long time.
Giulietta De Carlo Wow, so, like 4 coats regular polish and then gel topcoat and cure?
u can mix top coat with regular polish and create gel polish. 50/50 mix - it will lighten the color so u may need 2 or 3 coats. and they actually make a gel to add to regular polish specifically.
Giulietta De Carlo I to do this. But my client doesn't want to wait an hour for them to dry. So they prefer the gel colors because of how quick and convenient they are
Britt H yes, but do make sure it's 100% dry, I messed up several times and ended up with an ugly finish
Great tipp!!!! I have mixed my regular polish with the sensational gel to create my own gel polish
Thanks Suzie, I Google it first and it said "NEVER" do this and I thought "let me ask a trusted professional" and you didn't disappoint!
What’s the best way to use regular nail polish with gel? Should I use regular or gel base coat? Thank you I love your videos so much!
I have so many regular nail polishes and I didn't want to get rid of them and buy a bunch of gel ones so I usually just put gel topcoat
If I'm feeling real fancy I also put a gel base coat and have a sandwich situation going on
I have a similar situation. I have about 80 regular nail polishes and I want to do gel nails for quiet a while, but it's a waste to throw them away or leave them in the closet while they slowly dry out. Now that I know gel works over regular polish, I should maybe try that.
ebonyonce that's what I always do too. Thanks Susie for the tip 👍👍
u can mix top coat with regular polish and create gel polish. 50/50 mix - it will lighten the color so u may need 2 or 3 coats. and they actually make a gel to add to regular polish specifically.
Relevant .C yeah Hydracol! I love that stuff!!
I've been doing this for a while, I set my timer for 3 minutes after polishing before I gel top coat it, it works out great everytime!😊
Should you be using a gel base? Or normal base coat?
@@cteenie24 this is what I want to know also. I would think a gel base would work better than just regular base ?
Now I know! :-)
Thank you ! I have enough nail Polish to manicure a small country and I don't want to waste it. This is brilliant !!
Sabina Hertzum I do the reg polish on gel to change things up, too. Very handy!
Happy to see Suzie again so soon 😻🌹
Yes it works! 🙌 I have a few favourite nude shades of regular polish that aren’t available in the gel formula, and O used a gel top coat in them the day after I painted my nails. No wrinkles or anything!
I just a received a beautiful pink from my ipsy subscription and wanted to use it without worrying about it chipping off in two days. Thank you Suzie, for this tip. Pretty pink toes and fingers, here I come!
i just mix my fave colors of polish with clear gel top coat in a separate container then apply and I have never had a problem! It works great!!!
Thank you!! I have a huge regular nail polish collection -over 65 of them- but gel last longer! Know I can use them together!
I just started doing this last week every timeout get home after I get my nails professionally done so I don’t have to pay extra for shellac!!!!!! You read my mind!!
Looks like a sneak desing!!! I actually like it!!! Only Suzie can became this into a goood job!!!
Another way you can do this is to encapsulate the polish into acrylic, but just like you said it must be dry. I usually go by “touch dry” so if I don’t leave a fingerprint on the polish it’s good to go
Pls make a video on what you need to get started on acrylics.
Lan Lan *She has a video like that already.*
ҜΣLLIΣ'S ШΩRLD thx
She also has a beginners acrylics playlist! Made it so easy for me to get started!
Great video! Thank you! I’ve got too many great regular nail polishes that I was hoping I could make last with a gel topcoat! Can’t wait to try it!
you are very professional and educated. thank you for your channel! positive energy and education in beauty
Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I have so many regular nail polish with wonderful colors and very few Gel Polish that I have invested in yet.
SensatioNail has a product that you can mix with regular nail polish and it's supposed to turn it into gel. Can find it at Target for about $10. I haven't tried it but I'm tempted to
That is so true, I tried it and get the same result. Didn't know what to do next, but thanks for showing that.
that polish color is to die for
Thank u so much. I tried using gel on top of nail polish n it was a mess. So glad i found this video. 😊
Thank you so much for the info! Do you need to add a gel base coat? Or do you only need a regular polish and gel top base coat? Thanks again!
XwXCatwomanXwX you don't need the gel base doing this but if natural nails if use a base defiantly of some type!!
Nails of Interest, thank for the tip! ❤️
XwXCatwomanXwX no problem just trying to help thanks for watching my test!!
I've do this all the time even tho you aren't supposed to. It is also important to use new or fresh polishes, I have done this with kind of used up polishes and put the top coat literaly a day after I painted them and it got wrinkly with time.
This was very helpful, Suzie! Thank you for making this video 😄
You're an amazing teacher and nail tech!
How do you remove it. Been thinking of doing this. I have a bad habit of removing and polishing again
Susie, I love your channel and videos. Thank you for this great tip. Unrelated, but to my eyes, you resemble Valerie Bertinelli soooooo much. She is beautiful, and so are you! 💜💅🏼
Where was this video last week 😂 now im stuck with wrinkly nails hahah
kay dee Loool
Ahhh you read my mind!!! I was just looking into this yesterday and was hoping to find a video about it! Thank you Suzie!
May I ask, what's the removal process like for this nail polish + gel top coat combo though? Do you still have to soak/use a drill to change colors?
I searched this and saw a few videos. But I only trusted to watch yours. 💜
OMG thank you so much! I have so many regular nail polish I love that I cannot get rid of... especially if I want to do fun foils or other decals.
wrinkly reveal shots... 😂😂
You are making me love in love with nails again . Love your tutorials ❤️
