Easy answer to your question on this one Marek. The nicest thing anyone has done for me was you recording and sending me an inspiring pick me up video message when I was lying helpless in hospital last year! The coolest of cool dudes, Marek
Early in January I tripped and fell flat on my face on concrete. Lots of blood but luckily didn't break anything. A lady walking her dogs came to my help and another lady came out of her house gave me a towel for my bleeding nose and a silver blanket thing as it was cold. The dog walker took me back to her home and called my brother who took me to hospital. My faith humanity was resorted by those lovely people who came to help me.
Nicest thing anyone has done for me was during a hospital stay, I was terrified about a (comparatively minor) procedure, and the man in the bay opposite me (Paul) took the time to reassure and comfort me, in spite of the fact that he was extremely unwell, bedbound and in pain. My problems were nothing compared to his, but he still showed incredible empathy and care for a total stranger.
Back in the 90's I was walking the streets of Palermo. I somehow got lost in a dodgy area. A lady noticed I was lost and gave me a lift on her moped back to my hotel. Which was great fun
The nicest thing anyone has ever done for me .. when I was about 17 my mum introduced me to two of her friends, both incredible artists - one a children's book illustrator and the other an art lecturer and stain glass restorer. They used to take me to life drawing classes, they taught me to draw and generally spent so much time and energy helping me to learn to draw and become an artist. 7 years later and I still go round for a cup of tea and to listen to their wisdom. They are the kindest people who share their wisdom and experience with me without anything in return. One of them is very ill and struggles with this, but still has so much time for me - I feel so lucky to know them ❤
Oof.. sorry you witnessed that phone box event, Marek. As to your question about kindness...As a boy, I was obsessed with airplanes. One morning an RAF pilot who was a friend of my dad, dropped by and asked if I wanted to fly a plane. Major John and I flew an old transport plane for about an hour. That was an excellent day.
Nicest thing was deffo when we were on the Isle of Wight. We were in Ryde and my youngest two aged 3 and 4 at the time and were having meltdowns at the same time. Was trying order some food, maintain composure and control. This amazing woman behind me in the queue sensing my increasing stress and embarrassment tapped me on the shoulder, expecting some nasty comment she instead gave me a reassuring smile and said it wouldn’t last forever, told me to sit down and she’d bring our food over, she offered to pay for it but I politely declined. Made a pleasant change from the usual tutting and judgemental looks you get 😊
nicest thing recently - one of my neighbours, that I did not know very well, said I can park my second car on their drive (as they don't own a car). Amazing kind gesture!
Bizarrely I also had a chocolate bar themed superhero as a lad, but mine was just "mr Chocolatebar". He had the wrapper opened halfway down so it was like a cape. Great minds eh! Class video as always
Great country walk, Cool Dude. The last time I was 'caught short' in a phone box was due to not having enough change, thankfully. Long live the mobile!
Verty interesting book, cool dude. Your walk - even with the phone box incident - is significantly less disturbing than the one taken by the protagonists of the book.
Kindest thing anyone's done for me is my OC at Air Cadets belived in me, unlike my school teachers. He allowed me to grow personally by promoting me through the cadet ranks as a young cadet. This set me in a pathway to 50 years in the Air Cadets. Sorry you lost your hat.
Late to the party again. Sorry, I needed the, ahem, phone box. You should see if the house sellers want to buy your pic as a memento when they move. Bet they'll have a couple of bob spare! Parakeets are far worse than I have to say. And one of the most memorable nice things done to me was when my son's got t-shirts made for them and me, specially for the release of my first album. Unexpected, and put a big fat smile on my face, and a badly hidden tear to my eye.
I finished work and went to buy 4 beers, my card wasn't working and the customer next to me offered to buy the beers for me. I had cash so didn't accept but the offer was so nice!
The kindest thing anyone ever did for me was when Jimmy Savile didn't reply to my Jim'll Fix It letter. I wanted to be a fireman for the day and climb up a big ladder, but in hindsight I think I would have been made to hold the 'hose'.
not necessarily on the tube, but I read a book (and I unfortunately missed a stage production) of a story about a rabbit that stole a hat from a bear. I nearly lost my CDWC hat in a bookshop at the weekend. No sign of any rabbits
Looking at a lot of the responses, it makes me imagine how much better the world would be if we all carried out one random act of kindness a week. Perhaps that's your next Q of the week, what act did you carry out in the last 7 days to help someone? On a less serious note, loved the narration of you trying to cross the plank, Cool Dude. Needed that laugh. CD#123
Nicest thing someone has done for me was my dance instructor as a kid, I was too shy to do a certain move and she had the whole class turn around and close their eyes so I could practice first. I really liked having her as an instructor. Was off on that house by about £1,000,000 but the bathroom is beautiful!
Lovely views cool dude. I call those paths muddy surprises. Your question, what is the point in life? Having a reason to get up in the morning. It may be helping & supporting people from all walks of life & making them smile again & to give them hope especially if their whole world has come crashing down around them.
I worked in Mill Hill for many years and know some of the areas where you walked well, abd eaten many lunch times at the pub! Very sad to how its changed. The pond does have ducks and I've seen frogs there in the past and a few turtles. Thanks for the memories, good and bad. Nice one Cool Dude 😎
At least not many pidgins on this walk and you made it to the end without being mugged for your camera. You need your waders next time you go. Food was good and price and not bad for London. Standard use for phoneboxes in London these days. Some even have toilet rolls in😂.
(Aside from my mum doing the jolly decent thing of raising me after giving birth to me) I had an RTA after school in the 80’s when I rode my bike into the back of a car. It happened whilst i was wearing my fabbo snorkel jacket zipped right up in the manner of Kenny from South Park up due to the fact it was raining. A car had overtaken me before pulling over and then parking in front of me. I went straight onto the back of it and landed on the rear screen face first. That bloody coat was a hazard. Still, the driver kindly gave me a lift home whilst a mate, who i was cycling with, had to push my bike home. PS glad to say i got the question of the day correct for once 🎉 and with regards to “walk away shots” would it be an idea to tie a bit of string to your camera to pull it away and rescue it from thieving types? “If you’ve been traumatised by the phone box incident please phone…” 👍
@@cdwc My mum used to get me a new snorkel jacket for the upcoming school year at a funfair/market. They were dirt cheap but great (apart from the time I had that accident, oops)

When £17.45 is reasonable for a burger and OJ you know inflation is rampant and we're living in tough times. As for the phone box.. Maybe the man that cleans and looks after the phone box was also the man taking a in there. Does that put your mind at ease? Lastly, I imagine your feet were cold and wet after this walk. Let me guess, parakeets are invasive because a ton of people bought them and then just let them loose? Thats happened so many times. People are so short sighted. Smh. The nicest thing someones done for me...probably my honeymoon getting payed for fully by wedding present money haha Also, regarding the phone box incident. I've come to realize that London is just your version of New York City. Cause if someone shitting in a phone box doesn't scream NYC idk what does.
