Could you please show us how to clip/flick off the pads with full or good length balls that slant in. I regularly get hit in the pads or bowled because I don't have confidence hitting across the line. Should I place the bat where i think the ball will end up or swing across the line to 'meet the ball'?

You'll have to swing across.. not being able to hit properly could also be the result of falling head or wrong bat grip..

Isn't this basically slogging a good length ball away from the body? And if you swing with that power and don't middle it, you lose your wicket.
If you really want to hit a good length ball for four, then play a back foot cover drive like Sachin, Damien Martyn.

All BS ... Easier said than done....We r living in a polarized world. LAWS OF NATURE R NOT POLARIZED ... So optimum technique is neither...Jayasuria, Tendulkar Sehwag never cleared leg, nor played orthodox, yet they were feared by greatest fastest bowlers.
They simply stood upright, played with open bat face & slashing blade, & that is a technique that requires neither timinig nor tempo & hence easier done too.
