Well, it depends on the show. This trope gets subverted sometimes nowadays, though also, sometimes they try and explain it (ala GGG). Some shows focus on training specifically to avoid interruption/to be able to do it without dying horribly.

Big long transformation sequences are just eye candy for the veiwer. Within the contex of the story they either happen istnantly or much faster than what we see. The same aplies to stuff like magical girls or power rangers and other stuff like that.

That's one thing I never figured out.
Why didn't they just .. You know. Get a simpler base?
The same thing applies to other series like Combattler V, etc. As the series progressed, you'd think they'd be more focused on deployment time. . Yeah yeah yeah. I know I know.
Deployment is like transformation, it counts as a free action and the villains never do anything during it. Blah, answering my own questions.
