  • Check out this Mecalac Loader which is part skid steer and part mini excavator. Its a very functional machine and seems to do both of its jobs really well. Price point is pretty high, but what do you think? Two machines for one?

definitely interesting, but their dealer network is poor, at least in the midwest. The money saved by getting a 2 in 1 machine could be lost waiting for parts/service and losing productivity. If this machine went down I'm losing 2 machines now, not 1. A strong dealer network and better parts availability would be the biggest thing before I even consider this machine. Knowing I can get parts or service with a day is extremely important. Uptime is crucial in multi-role machines

They are very good machine we use them we run 8mcr and a 9mwr the wheeled version at about 10 ton it’s a game changer,
Well balanced and great for multi tasking operations

Just my opinion. People are already doing this with regular excavators. They’re buying dedicated buckets and forks that attach facing outward on their machines just like this. They even have skid steer quick attach receivers for them so they can use skid steer type implements. I’d say just buy a regular excavator and run it the same way. Granted you will stay using excavator controls but who cares. If you already own an excavator, just by the $500 skidsteer converter. Save your self a crap ton of money and also run a brand machine you have plenty of dealer support for already.

One of the places I use a skidsteer is inside the barns for cleaning out, feed in mangers etc. I'd like to know what height does the ceiling have to be to be able to work without worrying about rubbing hoses out on the ceiling.

I'm not sure. Ours are going to be 18' tall ceilings.

The price is outrageous. For the same price you can get two dedicated machines and be more productive. They’re sorta dismissing the people that would be most interested in this machine with the pricing. As a custom home builder looking to purchase my first piece of equipment I thought this thing would be perfect for my type of work where you might be grading, digging footings, lifting sheets to the roof, and on and on. But when I asked about pricing I was pretty turned off. If you say it’s a two in one machine but still charge for the price of two machines why would anyone buy it. I get that you can haul it in one trip but it’s crazy. Now if it was a two in one that they were selling for the price of a decent CTL no one would be buying CTL’s. Looks like a really cool product. Price is nuts.

Get a comparable size CTL and Excavator and they cost more than this machine. You don't need two operators or have to make two trips. With the savings it would be cheaper to rent equipment to cover any down time.

The operator is the most expensive part of the machine, by far. It's not even close. If I can replace two machines and two operators with one machine and one operator, I'm way ahead; even if the machine is more expensive than the other two combined (which it's not).
