My original car was a'68 Mercury Monterey with a 390 , it was a high performance engine , I loved it , I could beat the local teens without even trying , I would be half throttle getting through an intersection compared to the local teens and spinning out loosing traction . Good ol Ford power !
The 76 F100 that I'm wrenching on has a 1961 Ford Galaxy 390 in it with headers and glass packs. I dropped a Pertronix Flamethower distributor and coil in it from Summit Racing and with a little tweak of the timing it's roars like a lion! Like the Channel and love the rigs you're working on, FORD Rules! My daily driver is a 2010 F150 Lariat 4X4, love that truck but not as much as my wife does!
Used to be a die-hard Ford guy til I worked on some other brands and found they all have issues here or there, and it's really all in how well a vehicle is maintained. I really miss my 1980 Fairmont though, that car had the indestructible 200 I-6 in it but it was bored .030" over and the cylinder head was shaved .015". Wrecked it though, lost my brakes coming up on a car at a light and chose to hit the wall next to it instead.
Killer job on the editing and an awesome video. Just did the same to my '88 F150 Custom: 306 Mustang HO motor swap, and also ditched the speed density "fuel injection" setup for a carb swap. Only thing I am missing is a good set of heads, but it's on the road as is for now. It's a project in progress, will never be finished. Was a good video so I subscribed.
Holy shit. I did the same thing with that same ring compressor! Watching you destroy it was more satisfying than I could have imagined. Thank you for that.
I've been building engines for over 30 years, and I can't understand the problem that you guys are having. I have that same ring compressor I bought at a flea market used about 25 years ago and i love it. It is much better than the steel band type. Just set it up for the first piston, then install it, then just put it in, pull the handle to release it, put it on the next piston, flip handle around and knock the piston right in! On to the next. All the pistons can be installed in a fraction of the time it takes with the band type.
Been a fan from the gate. Just showing the gf why. The truck. The reason I watch you tube. First question.. Who are these cats? You sirs have come a long way since then. It's been a hell of a fun journey living vicariously here in pa. Thank you first and foremost for your service to this country and secondly for the "education" 😅 you've given to me and those like me around this world. Please continue to do what you love I'll continue to support!
Also every 3 months try a 1 bottle of STP Total Treatment fuel injection cleaner grey colors in your small or big engines and you be excellent see happens to plus one sat long time in fuel tank plus CARB to try get going !
I suppose the new engine came with a puppy so when it breaks down you don’t walk home alone ! I own a ford but only drive it at night ! So my friends don’t see me driving a Ford ! Nice job guy !
I know that many people would roll the crank over once the set it in on top of their brand new mains, I have been building Ford engines especially since I was a teenager, I am now 61, not a good idea until bearings and caps completely installed and torqued down.
I hope the torque specs for that motor called for oil on the threads. If you put oil on the threads when the torque spec calls for dry threads then you will have severely over tightened the bolt compared to its designed stretch. The rod bearing caps could be too compressed and partially crush the rod bearing causing oval wear, or at worst a sized bearing. Did you check if the bolts were to be oiled?
Send the oil in for analysis next time before you pay for a used block. If you have machine work done let them put it together so they will stand behind it.
@@JunkyardDigs You could easily have thrown new rings and bearings into your old engine in the time it took you to obtain, tear down and adapt the new one, you might even have done it in frame, though it was out anyway. That might leave bore issues, but how long would it have taken you to mic the bore and ridge to find out if it's tolerable? The new engine is better, but I don't buy the argument that it was faster under deadline.
@@JunkyardDigs The few times I have had to compress springs, I had no trouble doing so with my hands, and don;t really see the need for spring compressors, just for cleaning all carbon from the grooves to make room. And speaking of carbon, might your blow by be from rings stuck by carbon? and might that be dissolved using motor flush or Marvel mystery oil? thickened with something like STP? Did you ever tear down the old engine? and were the rings stuck by carbon?
@@JunkyardDigs new rings and bearings into the old engine would not have required a machine shop unless you can't borrow a bore micrometer and I guess a ridge reamer. The results would not have been great, but they would have beat the rotstang. Ridge reamers also put a bit of a flare in the top of the bore, making ring compression a bit easier as you reinstall pistons.
+jarbl1776 flowtech headers from summit. Cant remember the exact set atm. I had to massage the one near the steering box but i have a replaced steering box that i believe is bigger than the oem. Just make sure you put the headers in before the engine. I think its the only way
If you decide to just swap the whole distributor instead of changing the gear, places like RockAuto sell new distributors for the 1985 Mustang 5.0 5 speed (only Duraspark factory application with the steel gear) for about $60.
Since you are rebuilding the donor engine anyway. It would have been better to use a GT40 5.0 H. O. out of a 96-2000 Explorer. Same rebuilding costs but a much better engine. Probably the best small block Ford ever installed in a production vehicle. That Mustang H.O. is nothing compared to an Explorer GT40.
+Kimberlyexpects but... i used nothing from the long block. Those are that same as my HO short block EXCEPT the ho has forged pistons and the HO cam. Where the explorer short block does not. In my case this was the better engine
Hi junkyard digs, hey I was just watching the video about the f-150 rebuild the third time & when you got to tearing down the mustang engine you have nice metal instrumental music playing ( the first one ),who is that by bcause I love it & I'm into metal music like that, can you please let me know something okay, I would Appreciate it very much if you can okay thanks
I'm watching in 2020, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who is getting a truck with a mustang engine in it
Love the intake manifold colour - very cool that you didn't go with too much chrome. The truck sounds great - happy travels !
+growingknowledge shot blasted it then sprayed it with clear!
Nice work, especially including your little brother to help out!
Ring compressor part was funny af
Stay safe over there brother.
I didn't think that was enough flame and then BOOOOOOSHHHHH a way more respectable amount of flamage.

God be with you overseas and thank you Jesse!
Very enjoyable content and pretty cool that you use some of the same music as the fab forums
You had me at corn oil!
awsome video mr digs the poor trucks gets a good motor it sounds really nice thumbs up and shared
Thank you for your service!
Man, didn't realize how little your brother was when he became camera man.
Here goes a like for the young lad, let that kid talk! Love your work!!!
Love the videos but can't believe you use cork for the oil pan. Neoprene all the way for me. Sweet Truck!

Nice job!
your brother was pivotal in your rise to fame!!
Sounds good man…. Nice build
Good sh*t!! Love the old Ford trucks! Built Ford Tough 💪
Donald Erdbrink Which is why I've run a big block Chev in my '71 F250 4x4 since 1979.

I had a 1976 F-100 Long bed as a first vehicle
It had a 360fe and got horrible gas mileage
Still loved it

Right on! Great build!
She runs good.
How did the bearings look in the mustang?
Be safe and get back home to make more great vids brother!!
Thank you for your service!! Come home safe!
you pulled the motor, you should have rebuilt the lower end.. rule #1 of engine overhauling. rebuild the whole engine if you pull it!
Sheels.....that is were I buy some of my reloading components in Iowa city (kind of)
Got the same 5.0 in my 74 f100
That Guy did you need to use special motor mounts for it? I have a 67 F100 and an 87 HO I wanna use in it. Can’t find any info anywhere.
Ok one more time looks much stronger now lol
Don’t feel bad I spent 100 for a 302 that was filled to the intake with water. Runs good now after put some love in it
this is sooooooo cool
Please make sure that if you’re selling the 302 that it goes to someone who will take good care of it.
+Positive Negative nope! Its staying in storage. Numbers matching block
Junkyard Digs ok. I think this was made specific in another video but is that a Windsor or a Cleveland?
6:00 - 6:23 made my fuckin day
+Dylan Elder it ruined ours😂
Nice!

Just watching the tear down, I'm skeptical of the 30k mile claim. Sure seems like a lot of carbon in the intake valley and on the pistons.
The wear in the bearing and cylinders was definatley low mileage. either way, It's got 2500 miles on it now and still kicking ass!

hello my friend i am indonesian.nice video

What's a car?
V10 Tritons had power but like 8 mpg
Finally
Nice to see two brothers work to gather ..,...cool that you show your mastack ...a rail man ....amen ...love MOOK ..she is so cool too....
Can I ask what was going into the radiator at 8:45, cheers and good work
That's got more than 30k
What are you going to do with that 302 block now? They're a solid motor for sure. Love the 5L in the F'e now :-) Cool series! NOICE!!
Runitslogan: Ford mustang are muscle cars right? Their cars with muscle💪💪💪if u get what I'm saying
Mind your six!
did you have to cut the 5.0 emblem off the top of the upper intake to get at those bolts under it?
+Jacknife Joe i did because the screw heads all stripped
May God watch over you in my prayers
Hey he used the Loudwire song
MERICA!!!
what kind of Rockers are those you put in the heads??
Hey, that distributor looks a little loose....lol
Cool
( 5:50 ) Proper procedure for this situation: Use a cheap tool, ruin part with cheap tool, obliterate cheap tool so it can never hurt anybody again.
+Johnny Reiter exactly!!!
I used to have a 68 ford stepside
Wow you guys are so young! lol

Had a 360fe and took a lot of massaging to get it in
Did you change the gear from the cast iron gear on the Duraspark distributor to the steel gear compatible with the hydraulic roller camshaft?
Aha!! A true sbf guy! Actually i have not. High priority once I'm home
If you decide to just swap the whole distributor instead of changing the gear, places like RockAuto sell new distributors for the 1985 Mustang 5.0 5 speed (only Duraspark factory application with the steel gear) for about $60.

All bearing surfaces had assembly lube
Is there a reason why in the distributor started to turn at 9:15?

You never put mains on with your bare hands.
I've got a 75 f100 with a 302 engine I've been trying learn how to rebuild the engine cause I don't want to pay a mechanic thousands to do it.
If you were going to tear the bottom end apart and send it out to a machine shop anyway then why did you need a new block?
Out of curiosity, how much did the engine build cost? In all.
+burntsilverado honestly at this point a have no idea😂
What camshaft did you use?
Stock 89 mustang HO cam
Your crappy "ring compressor" looks a lot like an old school oil filter wrench. Lol
Is this the truck that you saved from the forest?
I might be wrong but they used this truck to tow that car to the garage. Think it was older model at the forest.
You gave 500 and ya rebuilt it lol y'all Yankees are funny. I'd have rebuilt the original one. That 5.0 stuff is cheap in Dixie. Long live the south
Yeeeee Haw
I guess I'm missing something....why buy another motor if you are just going to send it to the machine shop?
