These were great tractors. My dad bought a used one in 1978. It was only a couple of years old when he brought it home. The only problem he ever had was the shifting forks in the transmission would sometimes get jammed between first and reverse gears and you'd have to pull the top flange and un-stick the forks.
It is the slug that’s 5/8” in diameter on the end of the shifter that gets worn that causes that. I have owned over a dozen Power Kings am part of groups and still have a 1974 2414 and a 75 2418 with lots of implements
Thanks for saving the Power King tractor in the manner and way that you did. These tractors are very well built tractors and last a lifetime if taken care and maintained properly.
I have a 1973 model with the two transmission option, 14hp Koehler. Fun fact: if you put both transmissions in reverse, the tractor will go forward. I didn’t know you could get front wheel weights. Mine has the rear wheel weights.
I had one just like this. I bought it at an auction in Medina County, Ohio. Mine had the garden plow, a snow plow, and a 48" or 60" mower (I can't remember which.) The only problem I had was that it went through mower drive belts and they were quite expensive.
I was a paperboy & one of my customers was a motel office & the premises had a large expanse of lawn. Owner enlisted me to pilot one of these with a 60" mower deck. I recall having to go slow quite often because the V-belt system to drive the mower was just not up to the task. The engine had more than enough horses but they couldn't get to the mower.
Tractor Supply has these mower deck PTO, Power Take Off belts for sale. I can provide you the serial numbers for them, that is if your mower deck is a 48 inch mower deck. I own two of these, one I mow with, the other I plow the snow with, and use it for landscaping.
Farmall cubs were offset too, I believe for cultivation. You get used to it, I own a 1979 I bought new with the 18 hp motor, tandem transmissions, wheel weights, loader 6 foot backhoe and four foot mower.
Curious. Is it a 1614, or is it 2418. You see the way Power King numbered their tractors, what they did was the first number is the size of the tractor rear wheel. The second number is the horsepower of the engine. Mine is a 1614 which means that the rear wheels are 16 inch, and the engine is a14 horsepower Kohler engine, thus, 1614. Now, the larger wheels are as you have said 24 inch, probably has either a 16 or 18 horsepower Kohler engine in it.
I've got close to the same setup on a 1972, mine is a 2414 I'm looking for a Front Loader for it. If anyone knows were to find one please reply. I need the entire setup, hydraulics lift and the bucket. Thanks.
Love this guy's long-term connection to garden tractors too

My brother saved a Sears garden tractor from the junkyard. He loves it and has a few implements for it.
