I've had several requests for an actual step by step video, so I'll attempt that when I get some spare time. So in the meantime I hope this video might entice some of you to try sculpting your own birds out of PVC pipe, you'll be surprised how easy it actually is.
I’ve been making and selling the finished sculptures for several years now. It all started when I was bored with woodworking and wanted to try something different. I searched online and came across a free pattern for a small PVC pipe bird. It intrigued me so much that I printed it out and tried it right away, and I was immediately hooked! It was so gratifying to get such a cute bird sculpture out of just a plain piece of PVC pipe. My first few birds looked a little goofy, but what the heck I was having fun! Those silly birds that were created years ago are still in my gardens today!
After making several birds from that one pattern I started to design my own. I have to admit my first few attempts didn’t exactly produce works of art, but after multiple alterations I came up with some designs that I was happy with. So if you’re looking for something fun to work on, try making a bird out of PVC pipe, you might get hooked like I did! They also make awesome gifts for that hard to buy for person!

Hey Amanda, I just bought your sitting dog pattern and am clearing my decks getting ready to make a few of those. quick question about paint for small areas, tip of nose etc. Can I use Apple Barrel acrylic paint applied with a brush, rather than mask off the whole animal to spray a nose or beak? Thank you for the great variety of patterns, and the you tube vids, what fun!!
Hi Cynthia, yes on the brush for small areas. I just sponge on latex paints for the spots on the sitting dog. Sorry I don’t know anything about Apple barrel paints. If your animals are made for outside then you just have to be sure to use an exterior paint. Hope this helps :)

These show taping of the pattern to the pipe, tracing, hole drilling, cutting with jigsaw, bending with the heat gun and painting. I didn't think I needed to show the sanding so I didn't. All my patterns come with a basic tutorial with some helpful hints.

Hello, I use a jigsaw to cut the pvc and then I sand it with fine grit, then I use a heat gun to bend it.
