I had a 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis with the tow/handling/dual exhaust package, air suspension. I bought it in 1993 at age 19 as my first car. I drove it for 12 years to 250,000+ miles. What a wonderful car it was. I miss the square, slab design...and...I loved the turbine-styled wheels. My Merc had the exact same interior (red velour) as the Vic in this video; super, super comfortable pillow seats.

That ubiquitous "coffee can" seen under the hoods of so many Fords through the 70's and 80's is NOT for emissions, it's a vacuum reservoir for the ventilation system, and if you're only getting air out of the defroster vents, either at all times or it goes to defrost under hard acceleration (low vacuum condition), that coffee can and the lines in and out of it are the first place you should start lookin'! :)
In the food industry the longer versions of this can is technically called a “Number 8 Juice Can”, generically called a “Hi-C Can”, as that juice company was a major user of the exact same can under the hood of many cars.
The reason your reviews are great is your passion, mixed with nostalgia and reminiscing of history. Never change and keep producing what you do. Love it.
Well, almost. The virus is never going away. It's the new version of the Iron Curtain: complete control of everyone, without barbed wire and weapons. Instead use fear, restrict movement, mass confusion, restrict personal interactions, restrict small businesses into bankruptcy which drains working class savings and disposable income. Add stolen elections to divide otherwise cooperative opposition....what do get? Destruction of free enterprise in America without firing a single shot.
I had one of these in 1987 in college. It was dark blue and clean as a whistle. I was like riding on a cloud. Lots of fun road trips from Bowling Green St. U to Detroit and Cleveland for the Wknds with a couple of best buddies.
That was my first car, except mine was a '91. When I bought it, it was a rust bucket on its last leg but that car ran and rode like a dream. When it finally died, I saved the hood ornament, which I still have. I loved that car!
I have fond memories of my 89 Vic LX. It was silver with a gray velour interior. It didn’t have the vent windows or lighted keyhole; those were options. I agree that the ‘89 dash was nicer than the ‘90, which had the ugly airbag wheel. I put on Lincoln turbine “lace” rims and dual exhaust with bullet mufflers. Oh how I loved that car. It took me and my coworkers to the volunteer tent where we served meals to first responders coming from Ground Zero after 9/11. Eventually sold it with 180k miles. One of the best cars I ever had. Thanks for showcasing this low mileage beauty.
I always liked the tail lights on this model. Kind of retro, reminds me of the sixties for some reason. This is one fine low mileage example! THAT ASHTRAY though! Like NEW!
I wanted one when new but never happened with the same wheel option. I've liked the Ford Crown Victoria & Mercury Grand Marquis from 1983 to this model year which was up to 1991 before a complete redesign. Nice car! 🙂👍
I find your comment interesting because I’m much younger (29) but I bought a 96 crown Vic LX in 2016 and it remains my favorite body style. I love the old person cars in general but I thought the 92 to 97 Vic’s were the best styling. All of them are great though and it’s a shame no one makes land yachts anymore
A nice drive down memory lane. Had a high school friend whose dad was a Ford IT guy and their family got a new car every 6 months in this exact same colour combination. The cornering lamps were ideal for driving at night as you turned corners.
The Ford LTD was considered a luxury vehicle here in Brazil. It was even used as a presidential fleet vehicle until the late '70s. We only got the first generation, that was produced until the mid-'80s, so yeah, a 60's car being produced until the mid-'80s with just some minor facelifts.

I had an 89 with a semi police package. Maybe a detective package. It had the cop wheels with dog dish hubcaps and the certified calibrated 140or 120 dashboard. But that was it. It was just like this one in blue cloth with vinyl floor. Cloth rear seat as well. Stark white outside with zero trim. The old car came with a home my mother bought out of an estate 15 yrs ago. I ended up with this car. The 94 crown Vic with 16k miles we sold for about $6k. I absolutely loved this 89 car but eBay was hot then and I sold it to a group of retired cops in Chicago that put on parades in the Chicago area. They restored it to a legit cop car with lights and all 5hat shit. Always wondered if it’s still on the rode today. Nice Vic.
RIP my family's 1989 model LTD. It fell victim to the 2008 Cash for Clunkers Federal rebate, but I will always have fond memories riding in the back of this car as a kid.
Amazing vehicle. Solid rear axle. Frankly, a car that could do anything. And made you smile the whole time. My 2004 CVLX always makes me smile. It’s amazing,
You nailed it with NPR. Yes those style Fords were fun as my friends would pretend they were cops driving up on people flickering the high beams to scare people. I’m surprised at who Henry Ford admired same time let’s not go crazy and make Ford change like some people demand these days. This car is a fun ride I love the style from then. Cars had more character and distinction then. I don’t enjoy seeing many cars anymore. I love how you wrapped it up the car has soul. Many cars lack soul today. Yes many are milking the virus to get out of doing things. I love the roller skater sighting lol. You keep it fun informative you make these days much brighter. Have a great day.
I had 2 of these that were in excellent condition. They were reliable and comfortable cars that had good low end torque, especially when I installed dual exhaust on them.
What a beautiful example of late 20th century American car craftsmanship, now long gone. I was missing those powerful barrages on the “dreadful detailers”. And don’t let them tune in NPR!
I absolutely love the speedos on these cars....lots of easy to read real estate. People don't regularly use over 85mph...why do all frickin cars have 200mph speedos these days? I HATE it!!! For example, I only use 1/4 of my current Mustang GT ('12) speedo, the rest...worthless!!!
@Matthew Porter yeah most cars have a speed governor. Unless you have a Lamborghini or a Ferrari the speeds are a lot higher but they are pretty much track cars
The Panther platform was built in (4) wheelbases- this is the shortest one at 114.3 inches, which was not that long for a full-size car back then, and you can see it in the fairly short rear doors. Nowadays mid-size sedans are getting close to that length.
Bill - "This car real Americana", except Ford had already sold us out and had been building that car in Southwold, Ontario plant since 1983 or so. Sigh.
One of Fords most reliable cars. The only reason why they discontinued the vehicle is because they ran out of people to buy them. That generation like my folks who bought them (my parents first car was a 64 Galaxy) have passed on. The era of the big land boats has passed as well.
My grandma had a '90 Crown Vic LX (white/gray). She still had it when she died in 2013 and it had 38k miles. It was perfect. My stupid dad sold it for $5k. In all honesty, I hated driving it. The ride was amazing, but the steering wheel had so much play it didn't feel like it was attached to anything. The other thing was how hard it was to get it to downshift once it was in O/D. It was like that since it was new.
Yup Terry is right, tomato juice can - vacuum chamber. In 1990 the body got even rounder and the chrome bumpers disappeared harkening in a new erase. I had an 89 but mine was pale metallic grey with matching interior & a darker grey vinyl roof. I had the exact same radio as yours but mine had the power antenna. I had my engine bored out and custom cam & pistons, if you opened the hood it looked completely original but it was NOT your grandmas Ford. I also had remote locks, trunk release and starter put in. Unfortunately I ended up having to sell it but at least the guy who took it was a mechanic and loved the car.
Gorgeous car its amazing how you keep coming up with these but do thanks you for doing so Bill. I'm sure you would make sure they go to a good caring home over profit 🙏😎

I was put on high blood pressure medication cholesterol medication and was told by my doctor “ you’re going to have a heart attack and die”......So he finally scared the shit out of me and I quit .....I’m about to turn 48 .... Now I won’t give up drinking or narcotics. ...But byGod quitting smoking was the best thing I ever did...Another great video I’m gonna be pissed one day if you’re not here to make videos for me...Let that shit go
Someone is selling one of these and I’m thinking about going to check it out. Is it still comfortable 70-85? Can it handle those speeds around slight curves on the highway? Sorry for my ignorance I’ve never driven an older car, but my assumption is that with good tires it should handle just fine like any other car except with massive body roll. I’m dying to get a comfortable car. All modern ones are so uncomfortable especially the seats. Having a couch on wheels just makes so much more sense.

Nice Vic.
Great video. Those cars were a great value on the used market. I owned many and not one ever let me down.
RIP my family's 1989 model LTD. It fell victim to the 2008 Cash for Clunkers Federal rebate, but I will always have fond memories riding in the back of this car as a kid.
Thanks for even reviewing a 89 Ford LTD. These are really classic car videos!
Gotta say this is the funniest crown vic review I've seen
Amazing vehicle. Solid rear axle. Frankly, a car that could do anything. And made you smile the whole time. My 2004 CVLX always makes me smile. It’s amazing,
I sure appreciate your videos! I’m right there with ya on longing for those classic American styles.
And don’t let them tune in NPR!
shoutout to you for hooking up us with facts we wouldn't have known!
Great presentation Bill you know your car history--- Weather is turning cold here in Calgary Alberta- All the best keep the good work
My 88 is my daily driver way down here in New Zealand, love it!
I love this car so much. Wish they still made them.
@@curiouscars9282 Bring the Galaxie back too, and the Thunderbird!
@@razvandobos9759 me to, I owned a 1982 Crown Vic, 1988 and 1991.
I love how Bill says "Wow" about that chick!
She probably looks like Ann Hathaway!
the last of the next to damn near zero maintenance cars. got one from my dear father. what a car!
If you hear Freebird or Stairway to Heaven on the radio, there’s a pretty good chance the DJ is in the bathroom LOL
My dad had a 1992 crown vic. I loved it. It was tighter more agile version of the 1970's Oldsmobile's he owned. Roomy comfortable powerful and proper
True you can't go over 80 legally here in the u.s.
Track days?
@Matthew Porter yeah most cars have a speed governor. Unless you have a Lamborghini or a Ferrari the speeds are a lot higher but they are pretty much track cars
Plus the government mandated 85 mph speedos at the time.
What memories. Mamaw had one of these, the she got new in 88. Loved that car.
My grandpa had one an early 80s LTD Crown Vic forever! He only had two cars as long I was alive. The LTD and then a 91 Cadillac.
The Panther platform was built in (4) wheelbases- this is the shortest one at 114.3 inches, which was not that long for a full-size car back then, and you can see it in the fairly short rear doors. Nowadays mid-size sedans are getting close to that length.
Still driving my '88! 94k miles and still gorgeous.
Bill - "This car real Americana", except Ford had already sold us out and had been building that car in Southwold, Ontario plant since 1983 or so. Sigh.
Us canadians are just more polite americans
Along with all of the Gen 5 Camaros, Oshawa Ontario
For the purpose of American vehicle manufacturing, Ontario can be considered a state.

WhitefolksT and stone cold crushing beers in the ring is my spirit animal! Cheers
The 89 CROWN VIC had two engines a 5.0 and a 5.8 which is a 351 that were mostly used in police cars
Hey from Hoschton Georgia.
well you know you're dated yourself when you made a Matlock reference my mom used to watch that show when I was younger
Amazing video again. Thank you Bill 😊
I do like the look of the older cars over what we have now.
You always find the cleanest cars!!
Love the honesty about the weather at the beginning! 😂
Gorgeous car its amazing how you keep coming up with these but do thanks you for doing so Bill. I'm sure you would make sure they go to a good caring home over profit 🙏😎
Not trying to be mean but you kinda sound like Peter griffins son Chris haha.
I was thinking the same 😂😂😂
Man this car reminds me of my grandparents 1990 back when I was a toddler
I'd buy this just to pretend I'm a retired FBI agent who's trying to work privately as a detective. 😂
He makes me laugh so much great car thank you for the great reviews
Anyone that can help me out. My brother had a 90 model, but the rear window had that limo style small glass in rear where the vinyl covers a portion of the glass?
The late 80's early 90's Crown Vics are so hard to find. Everybody trashed them.
re: "Detailers are dreadful" Had I detailed ANY of your cars, Bill, you would hire me immediately. Detailing cars, having a touch of obsessive compulsive disorder, is the secret !!
10 years went out with a girl that had a 90 LTD. It was a very nice car. Had 50k and very little rust, which in Minnesota is impressive. Had to have been owned by the original little old lady. Broke up a year or so later. Man I miss the car😢
For the love of God
re: "For the love of God" Had no idea ... God was into Ford products.
I graduated in 91. Started smokin at 15. Said I would quit by 30.....nope. Said I would wait til 40.....nope. Finally 45 hit... I was put on high blood pressure medication cholesterol medication and was told by my doctor “ you’re going to have a heart attack and die”......So he finally scared the shit out of me and I quit .....I’m about to turn 48 .... Now I won’t give up drinking or narcotics. ...But byGod quitting smoking was the best thing I ever did...Another great video I’m gonna be pissed one day if you’re not here to make videos for me...Let that shit go
Totally agree. Winston's killed off my dad by age 55.
Auto Europa Naples it’s works! If I lived to 80 I’m gonna buy all the cigarettes in Georgia. And sit on the porch and smoke
