    I think one reason why so many DJs have a problem with him is because his performance is fake but gets millions of views every time. Obviously massive respect for the mashups! But it creates this unnormal high standard that other "normal" DJs can't reach by just mixing.

      Honestly.. i gravitated to djing because the pads on my the controllers look like and function similarly to the pads on my beat making equip. With beat making equip, you got sound edits, which is basically serato flip, then there's sampling, cueing, recording and fx. You have 4 decks and 32 samples.. which equate to tracks on a beat machine... Those mashups can be performed live with preparation...

    I'm a dj myself and I recently saw sickick perform live at a club. I was so disappointed. He wasn't even a good dj (even tho I believe it was a pre recorded track and all he was doing was adding unnecessary effects very dramatically) and then he was clearly faking the actual tappin of the pads as nothing changed in the track as he did that. Needless to say, I left within half an hour because I had that Milli Vanilli feeling. Carlo Atendido, mad respect to you and your skill set. You never cease to amaze me with your talent, knowledge and killer live sets. Keep up the great work my friend.

    Sickick is using the sampler pad mode whenever he preform his mashups. It’s one of many ways any dj can perform their music or playlist. Just imagine if a guitarist made the sickest solo, but didn't have the skill to play it live. Then went and prerecorded every note one by one, spliced it all together, then played the solo at a concert as if it was live. Nobody in the industry would accept that, the fans wouldn't accept that.
    There has to be a line drawn somewhere.
    It's either a mashup you release as a mashup or a live performance. You can either do it live or not, and if you can't then don't fake it. I don't understand why so much fakery is allowed in the DJ/EDM scene today. It makes everything a complete joke. Djing isn't a joke to me when I see people like Jazzy Jeff, Grandmaster Flash, Craze, Qbert, Carlo Atendido.
    Stuff like this makes a mockery of their hard work, skill, and all the routines that took hours, days, years to pull off. It makes it all a big joke.
    If I play guitar hero on medium settings I don't expect to be applauded as if I was Jimi Hendrix.

      Well let's see hear.... What happens when they catch artist lipsyncing their music and not actually sing it at a concert!?! They get criticized deeply for it by their fan base when they feel cheated. So why is it so bad to call out someone portraying a skill that they don't seem to truly have. As far as we know he could be mashing up other Djs work previously recorded since he clearly cant do it live. We wouldn't know!

      @@nunya937 Milli Vanilli. Their songs were recorded by somebody else, they lost their Grammy's, reputation, career. Nobody should be on stage miming to other people's work.
      Singers sometimes mime their own stuff, but there could be a million reason behind that, like the dancing is too rigorous they can't do both. They have damaged their voice. Those reasons are ok.
      Or they just can't pull off what they do in the studio on stage. That's a bit of cheat. But it's still them. Worse is making a set in Ableton, then miming it on stage. DJs should not mime, full stop.

    • @iancowley_DJ

      If it was a music video for his mashup make have him sat in front of the computer vibing out.

    Carlo you're obviously a super talented guy and maybe one of the best at your style. Do you have *any* videos showing the more, let's say, "traditional" smooth transitions? It can be super frustrating in every video when you make it sound like quick mixing, drops, samples, loops, etc are the *only* ways to DJ. If you or someone else could point out where your videos are with long, smooth transitions and letting the songs play more of their full nature, I'd really want to check those out. Thanks!

    The real controversy is that he prepares his tracks very smartly and tricks the usually audiences with just showcasing his cue playing techniques. The true test of a real DJ is to take away the samples, loops and auto sync and then see what happens. Put the same DJ on a pair of 1200's with vinyl, on a controller with just CD's and no waveform or on a controller with MP3's and no frills and then listen to what they can't do.
    In the 80's we were trained by those that came before us. The ethics of the booth back then are not taught today. Today most don't even know the true reason for the title of DJ.
    The more you can do by using less "Faking it" only comes through always practicing as much as possible.

    • @djcarlo
      @djcarlo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do love the dedication to the purest aspects of the art, and I agree that true DJs won't have a problem if you take away the wave forms. In the end though, a true DJ also knows how to show the crowd a good time, and practice is always the key to making that happen.

    He is doing a video and putting on a show for the camera. Can you prove he didn't make the mix prior and then mess up the synch? As a former mobile dj I would record a mix tape that I could blend into and out of for weddings and large parties when I needed a break to eat or hit the little DJ's room during a long job. This isn't really any different, I mean watch any Osocity vid when he does a shoot on the beach or street corner or square and you see his gear all setup but where is he getting power from for the gear? I have never seen a generator or power cords in any of his videos but he keeps cranking them out.

    • @djcarlo
      @djcarlo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never said that he didn't make the mix; a lot of people are just saying he didn't do it live! I just wanted to prove that it could be done live hahaha. A lot of comments have also been pointing out Osocity for the same "music video" approaches to his content.

    • @edreeves3342
      @edreeves3342 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@djcarlo Sorry, I did not mean you in specific. It was more directed towards the people screaming fake. I learned how to mix back in the 80's NYC when a DJ was someone on the radio or a booth in a club. You almost never saw them (unless they were good looking radio DJs) but you heard them through their mixes. I didn't intend to sound like I was crapping Oso and others like him, I enjoy his vids and mixes and give props to everyone who sets up a camera and records a mix. It's showmanship and you need a lot of that now than you ever did back in my day outside of scratch battles. The game has come a long way from DJs being an after thought to being THE main attraction.

    If (and that's a big If) he made the mash up himself, I don't really have a problem with this. I don't think he is really trying to convince anyone it is real, it is very obviously fake. He is selling a "show." He has a costume on, he is putting on a performance and playing his mash up. It is for entertainment purposes. You guys don't really think the magician sawed that lady in half either (do you?).
