That was the original design but It looked pretty bad so decided to go with these.

If TetrisTale is an actual thing, I believe that when you encounter a monster, instead of the RPG Fight, you play a game of Tetris. If the opponent wins, you die. But if you win, you can choose to kill or spare your opponent.
