I bought around ten RSD albums this go around. That Big Brother was the heavy hitter. I was blown away by how good that performance sounded and just how great the band sounded. Pick this up. You will not be disappointed!!!
Man I went back and forth about the Big Brother RSD and passed, but you just convinced me to find a copy and I did, sealed, so I pulled the trigger. Also found the Jazz Dispensary RSD The Golden Hour so filled in two holes in my collection. Thanks for the video, love them all.
My Grandfather drove the cement truck over the grating to pour cement on the Mackinac Bridge. I still got to get my shirt of the bridge. but my Grandma lives not too far from Mackinac so I can get one in the next spring or summer.
I picked up that Janis & Big Brother album on RSD as an afterthought. Wasn’t originally on my list but as I was flipping thru I saw it and snagged it. Glad I did! Price was decent on it as well. The one live album I bought on that day that’s not being talked about a lot on social is The Blasters Live in London. Incredible on vinyl and the full concert is amazing!
Gotta agree with you regarding the Janis J. & BHCo. album , which I was also hesitant on. That T Rex Tank is a bit different than his other more common lps. I found it a couple yrs ago used but was kinda pricy. My copy is very good shape, OG with all original seeves etc so I paid the price. Also I have never come across it before or after.
Another example of picture discs is that a picture disc is like if you enjoyed the movie nightmare on elm street and have a VHS tape on your wall with Freddy Krueger printed on it, in certain ways it’s cooler than a poster because the art is printed on the very thing that it comes from/is associated with and it actually has the movie in it and could be used. The fact the music is on it is simply so that it technically can be used, but it’s not trying to replace a mobile fidelity pressing of it, it’s not about how good it sounds when used, it’s special because the art you love is on the art it comes from, the art is exhibited on the art form. Essentially a picture disc is a poster to be looked at. And audiophiles are not only saying that those posters don’t sound good but that no one should own one and anyone who does should only show it off with eye rolling sighing and scoffing due the nature of the motivation being guilty pleasure. Getting mad at a picture disc is like getting mad at someone who has keychain TV with Night at the Roxbury on it because it’s 240p instead of 4k when the only reason the person got it was because they like the movie, not for it to be the way they watch the movie.
Hi Robert - I used to live in Northern Michigan close to The Mackinac Bridge & Island. Love the Talking Heads & Agent Orange 🍊. Bloodstains a classic OC punk track.
The 4 disc version of Talking Heads 77 is in very large packaging with deluxe holders in the book. This means the set is very expensive for just 4 discs and the book. I have the compilation on the three LP set crammed in a wide single sleeve. One of the last LPs I purchased before switching to CDs for a while.
Nice pick ups in music, I don't own an album picture disc. My wall space is dedicated to future art so a picture disc is not in the cards. Still buying CDs and Albums and occasional 8 tracks for my player. I plan on getting what you got on CD, I do buy albums and CDs of the same title.
not surprised at all about Big Brother lp... bands knew going into Detroit at the time that they would have to compete with Grande's house band... MC5.. not an easy oder to fill. As far as TRex goes... I've never understood that band, Johns Children... or whatever else. Electric Warrior, maybe Slider... but nothing else really does nothing for me.. and lord knows I've tried. Anyhow... great video as always... looking forward to the next one.
Totally agree with your assessment of Zipper Catches Skin. It's good but not all that great, and it's absolutely no match for Flush the Fashion. My favorite song by far is "Tag, You're It", but there are certainly other decent tracks. I need to check out that Big Brother live album!
Oh wow! It’s so good to see you so happy and excited about a record, especially something from RSD. Also, I think it’s kind of sad that picture discs have gotten such a bad rap from people who want them to sound good? It’s a piece of art, printed on an item associated with the industry it’s based in. It’s like getting a baseball bat with Babe Ruth printed on it. It’s like getting basketball with Kobe Bryant printed on it. It’s like having a skateboard with Tony Hawk printed on it. They are meant as souvenirs whose novelty lies in the art being on the very thing that represents the industry the art is from.
Picture disc's have been hit or miss for me. Quite a few albums I've wanted on vinyl only were issued on Picture disc which sucks. There should be options.
Live in Detroit. Pronounced Grandeeee Ballroom here. I know, doesn’t look like it should be pronounced that way. I was always perplexed by it and spent many a sleepless night mulling it over.
Janis Joplin and her with Big Brother is the artist I collect, i was happy about the Big Brother release. And i agree WHY DO THESE THINGS SIT FOR DECADES! 😡 PS, The RSD of Big Brother Live at Winterland 68 they released in 2015 IS AMAZING too.
I know this is off topic, Robert, but I need to get this off my chest. This is very hard for me but I feel like it needs to be said, nay, admitted. I just purchased Winger's CD Box Set. Sorry. Thought you should know.
I have a question for you. I'm looking to get a new turntable. I haven't bougt one since the late 70's It wasa Technics. My question is, now that I have some box sets that have 180 gram vinyl albums. These are heavier than any other album I have. Does the heavier album interfere with the tone arm?
You really piqued my interest with the Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin live at the Grande Ballroom. I got two copies of that album, both are double LPs, just a couple of years ago. I'd have to look, and I actually meant to but didn't, but I believe they may be Music On Vinyl releases. The audio is that old fashioned stereo where you have half of the band in one speaker and half of the band in the other. It leaves a lot to be desired even though it does sound good and it gets better as The show goes on. It sounds like what you got may be a fix to what I got. But I can't find what you got on Discogs? I've mentioned my vision troubles before but I think I got the title right off of your video? It's the same title as what I have on my records but the artwork is definitely different on what you showed. Any chance you could tell me exactly what it says on the cover so I can look it up on Discogs? Discogs is just not finding it with all of the other Grande Ballroom and Big Brother related searches I'm doing. Thanks for any help. If you want to hear a mind-blowing audiophile grade Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin show, you need to find the copy of this 2 album set. It's mind-blowing how great this is. It's the Winterland 1968 shows (both shows) and it's raw and perfect sounding to me. It's the best sounding BB / Janis Joplin show I've ever heard. @RobertFithen Yes I was glad to see that it was still affordable too haha. Thanks again for doing your video and mentioning this one. I didn't even realize I had missed (or should I say mistook and thought I already had) it 👍👍

Great pick ups!
Thank you. I will look for that Joplin & Co. the in shop I had passed on it. Would enjoy it greatly.
How much great stuff is just sitting in the vaults while they keep re-releasing creed records, pretty much sums it up for me!
Thanks for the Big Brother tip, I'm excited to hear All Is Loneliness in an extended version. Another great video, cheers! 🙏
It's excellent!
Super excited to see the nest vid. Lots of good stuff from 91. Happy Holidays Robert!
Thanks!! I definitely put some time into it.

Hey Robert. Great video. That Talking Heads is fantastic, snagged a copy myself. I like that Agent Orange LP. Cheers
Thanks!! Some of the bonus tracks I prefer over the album tracks
Nice mighty Mac sweater! I agree that the Big Brother is an amazing recording and surprised many have not mentioned how good they sound.
Always enjoy brother definitely looking for agent orange take care peace and love lloydy

“Bug Brother” would be a great name for Frank Zappa song

Cheap Thrills.. is best in mono in my humble opinion... it is what the band was, not the fake stereo 1965ish Beatles sound.
Yes, 2 sets from Zeppelin from April 1969 must be seriously unvaulted. Shame there is one Jimmy Page who would probably butcher it to death....
He does seem to like to tinker with things.

“Halfway have it”… that’s a great term to describe getting a record you want but getting other odd issues with it at the same time
That agent orange is their worst album don’t judge them on that the rest of their albums are way better

Yeah I was never a fan of picture disc's. I meant I was due like paying some kind of penance.
Enough with the picture discs on RSD and in general. They sound horrible for the most part. Not worth the money.
