You are so right about feeling overwhelmed and being tempted to give up. My Mother was ill through 2024 and passed away in November. My "Yarden" (my suburban yard is my garden area:) was not my priority but I kept it going so I could have flowers for bouquets to take to Mom:) I did get tomatoes and peppers, but overall it got neglected and through the fall and this winter it's just sitting there with no maintenance, no upkeep, no attention since October. I live in Mid Missouri so it's now covered with snow and ice this week:) I am just letting it rest until the first warm days come and I will start again. It might feel like it's too much, but I have learned that "one thing at a time, one day at a time" is a wonderful approach to cope with most things in life:) The good and the bad. Keep gardening everyone!
I am so sorry about your Mother's passing. That is heartbreaking. You can start fresh on your garden this spring and enjoy the healing properties of it. Take care.
What fantastic information! I especially appreciate the information specific to zone 5b/6a since I live in the same zone (Michigan). I've been growing veggies for a few years now and am always learning something new. Your videos and website are a great resource. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us!
Going way overboard in new ventures is just how I roll 🤣 I'm going into my fourth gardening year and really hitting my stride with paring down my plan for 2025. It's been a lovely ride and I appreciate your wealth of information along the way.
I’m excited about the new gardening season too! To get my garden fix this frosty winter I’m watching your wonderful videos, starting onion seeds and dreaming of what comes next.
Dear Susan! Thank you for the very detailed vegetable grow chart - I will have great use of this when planning my 2025 vegetable garden. This is very helpful - Happy new year and greetings from Denmark - Malene 🌱
Hi Susan, not only is it often price effective to grow your own, as you said you bypass the pesticides/herbicides. And we have found a lot of produce we buy in the stores already seem to be half spoiled or very marginal quality. And there's nothing like the scent of fresh vegetables ripened in the sun and fresh air. Now I am getting excited for this planting season!!
Good to see you in 2025! We’ve satisfied our “garden fix” through your library of videos, such a wonderful source of information no matter when you made them. Our best to you and Bill in this new year. Thank you for sharing your expertise. Jeanne & Mike
Hi, Jeanne and Mike! Thanks so much for your kind comments. Gardening is definitely my passion and I love sharing what I've learned over the years. Lots more to come!
Wow thank you Susan. Great information at a touch of your finger. Well it's freezing in North Texas. Oklahoma has a huge snow storm and I hope they closed the gate and keep it to themselves. ha ha Can't wait for the growing season. Have a few green tomatoes ripening on the counter now. Take care and have a warm week indoors.
You have been busy over the winter! Thanks! Even for someone who has been growing for quite a while, there is information that will be useful. I, for instance, am gardening in raised beds for the first time. I have much less space than before and need to know just how much I can grow, given the limits of the space I have.
I was just planning my spring garden and trying to figure out when to start all my seeds. I've been following you for years. Appreciate you sharing all your knowledge. I've been gardening for over 40 yrs. and you're never too old to learn new things.
TH-cam just introduced you to me. Yay!. I am south of Portland (ok, not that close….but, close enough😉) enjoying the few videos I have watched. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
It's so nice to meet you! Glad you found my TH-cam channel and website, SusansintheGarden.com. I hope you find both helpful and am wishing you a great garden season in Portland!
Hello Susan, Love to see you again and I wish you a happy and blessed New Year 🎉. Your website is wonderful and so helpful, thank you so much. ❤ greatings from Germany ❤
I was so excited to see your video pop up this morning. Just starting to set up my seed growing station, almost time to start seeds! Would love a video about how you guys handle your irrigation system in the winter time. I live in western Washington and we've been taking it up for winter. I see yours still on the ground in the snow. Do you have to blow the lines out? Thanks for all your fabulous content!
Hi, Mary Ann. Bill just unscrews each set-up on the raised beds and blows out the lines. We've never needed to store them elsewhere so it's really easy.
