Also checking in from the High Desert -- daughter looking for something like this and asked me to check it out -- thanks so much for covering all the most important things, like how many gallons it holds, the ability to fill it with a garden hose, and output. Price on Amazon is just as you stated. Nice vocal tone, good volume, good photographic lighting, and seeing it in context with your furniture helps to gauge its actual size, so, another good element in your video. Well done, glad I found this video. Best to you!
did you get it? I'm in high desert too, temps climbing :)
Thanks so much I tried to include as much info I had at the time and thanks for watching
Regarding the smell, the manual states that you need to just run on fan mode for 30 min to dry off the media before shutting it off to prevent algae growth in the media filter.
Goes for all swamp coolers.
In western Colorado the Summer humidity is only 5%, if not less. I like it so far. $159.99 on Amazon and Walmart sometimes.
Good review!
I work in a wearhouse in arizona, and work close to where they keep the dock doors open. Hoping it works good for that.😊
I have one of these and two larger ones (“Hess Air”) and could not be happier
Thanks for watching!
@@charityemjay I was wondering if you read any of these comments.
09-05-20 Los Angeles - Yesterday was 117 degrees with humidity under 20, and it kept the apartment at 82 until about 4pm, then, like it always does at the end of the mid day, it jacked up to 89, but remember it was 115 outside. Then because it is a heat wave I kept it on all night and it was 80 in here at 8 am while it was 90 outside. It did reach 91 inside last night for an hour but was still 10 degrees cooler than outside.
It cost 2-5 dollars a month to use with heavy to moderate use. A/C for the same space 25-40 dollars, plus constant circuit breaker blowouts.
You have to keep the windows open for it to work it's best. It sounds crazy but that's how the thing does its magic. When it was brand new 2 summers ago, yes, the smell was hideous. Run it an hour or two normal, and deal with it, then put a cup of vinegar in the water tray, it will help a lot! According to Hesaire, you can put scents in there too like essential oils, I have never done it because I fear the sticky will be bad, but if it is a drop in four to five gallons, it most likely is diluted plenty to prevent any sticky. And Hesaire would know, it's their company.
Also, like the video shows, I didn't bother with the wheels, I just pick it up and move it. When it's empty it weighs practically nothing, as it's just a big fan with a tiny pump and some space age filter. When it's full it weighs whatever 5 gallons plus the fan weighs, which is not that heavy for turning it and pointing it in a different direction.
It's Hess - Air. In the dry desert it will work great. In the humidity, not so much. So if you live in the eastern United States where it's damp and dripping, forget it.
pronounced "Hess - air"
You need to open a window slightly in the room you want the air to flow into and crack open a window behind the unit.
I add a small amount of bleach (tablespoon) to the water every other day or so to keep the algae down.
Essential oil.
How is the cooling compared to a portable air conditioner?
a cap full of rubbing alcohol with aloe in the tank works well to sweeten the smell.
Rather than bleach, I use hydrogen peroxide to address algae odor. Great little cooler for the price...
How much do you put in?
It would work MUCH better if the air being sucked into it was from outside because you're pretty much just saturating the interior air and at some point it will become so saturated that the evaporative process will no longer work and there will be no cooling effect. Best way to use an evaporative cooler is to have it draw outside air in from a window, then open a window on the other side of the house to exhaust air out.
Also can create mold problems in the house if not ventilated.
not an issue in her dry area even with the window(s) slightly opened. The higher pressure outside dry air will rush into the lower pressure (more humid) air nside the house.
@@rob4197 Lower humidity is not necessarily lower pressure.
@@anarchomoto1152 Less air pressure in more humid air.
@@rob4197 Sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about. That's only true of a natural environment, and as soon as you push outside air into an enclosure it's no longer a natural environment and the air inside is pressurized higher than atmospheric pressure regardless of water content. Physics isn't your strong point, is it?
Do you think this could cool a garage
Great video just wandering how's it held up so far?
Did it help with the electricity bill ?
Yes about the same usage as a large box fan on high. John 14:6. Ephesians 3:20.
Great review! What about mold? Are you concerned about mold buildup inside the unit at all? I would want to be cautious about breathing any kind of moldy air since I'm so allergic to mold, even a little bit. Hopefully there's little chance for that and it's really easy to clean to prevent that.
That does not happen if you have proper ventilation while using these. The idea is that the humidity is not allowed to build up.
@@phototristan He's asking about inside the unit, the actual swamp cooler itself. I'd imagine it's not too bad as long as you run the fan to dry off the media and don't leave stagnant water in the unit.
Greetings, enjoyed review. Could you measure temperature before and after using unit, length of time to cool?
In an apartment on the second of two floors it drops the temp 3-5 degrees but will maintain the cool through most of the day. It drops it in about 3-5 minutes, with a thermometer right in front of the blower.
Keep your windows open for it to work. I even open the door in the late mid day, as it just doesn't cool after about 3 - 4, don't know why, but it will still be cooler than outside, and when it cools off at night outside then I open the door and all the way and let them work together.
did u say ur not using ur ac with this swamp cooler?
I just order one this morning. I'm sure it will work in my small room
Thanks for the review as i was thinking about getting one of these
evaporative cooler fans. Just a few questions: 1) will the house get
mildew problems if you use it everyday since there is so much moisture
dumped into the room whenever it is being used? 2) Will those moisture
blown into the room affect your electronic equipment such as your
computer and TVs? 3) How many watts does that monster fan takes to run,
500 watts, 1000 watts?
For 1&2 depend on outside temp, humidity and size of living space. Only 85 watts max for the unit in the video.
How about showing us the temperature difference when it's running vs when it's not.
How about the wAttage? Can it plug on 15amps???
Yes. low power draw with these.
Only 85 watts at max ( 0.7 amps) for the Hessaire MC18M according to specification.
How's your electricity bill now since having it?
Is it loud?
Most swamp coolers spend 4 cents to 12 cents an hour for it being on. Its more efficient than AC units since they use water
@@damianmartinez251
Thank you for the info. 👍
Would you recommend getting this for a small room ~100 sqft?
It's kind of loud for a small room. Also the fan is huge so you won't have a lot of choices in term of the direction of the fan so it's pretty much going to be blowing at your face.
I am in 13 x 13 and I love it! It's only noisy if you don't keep the water full, as the dripping is what makes all the noise not the machine. If you keep it full the dripping is quieted by the distance of the water falling. It's practically silent when filled up.
I love mine, It's made my house nice and cool. I'm glad that I found this page mine had oder but nothing a little vinaiger could fix.
Just bought one
It did not work well for us in Phoenix AZ
Basically a 200$ fan and humidifier
I have this and it gives Cold air! I haven't cleaned mine yet. The instructions are sort of vague. What did you do? thanks
When you drain it and getting ready to store it for the winter or whatever, just wipe down the insides with a cloth and maybe light detergent or vinegar. Also if the media on the back is dirty, rise that off with a hose. Then, run it for 30 minutes to dry everything out before storing it.
How did this work for you during the peak summer temps? I'm looking at getting this, we're here in California and it gets around 115 during peak temps. We're going home in a few days from being evacuated due to fires. And our area is pretty burned out and will not have power restored for weeks so I am looking to this as an alternative to AC. Which our generator could not handle that load. The amps for this are compatible with our generator. Just wondering how these worked for you since you live in a similar environment to us.
I appreciate this review... so far you have me sold on this.
I bought one this summer and it was not what I expected. It just blows out cold air. It will not cool a room and it's loud. It's impossible to sleep with it on at night. I live in the Ventura County and it gets very hot and humid and swamp coolers will not do a good job as a portable a/c would do.
Next summer, I'm just going to stick with portable a/c. No more swamp coolers for me.
How is the Hessaire MC18M working out for you? It's June 1st, any additional comments?
Hi we've had a few 90 degree days the past week and I'm really liking it! I turn on the one in the greatroom at least once a day now. Thanks for watching!
Hi! When you had the 90 degree weather what did the unit bring your temp to inside? Thanks! :)@@charityemjay
Hi thanks for the review, they do cause mold. Have a window open to push the old air out.
@@charityemjay serious. you need this at 90 F. ???? that is mild weather. my summers are 36c to 38c daily all of July and august . that is 100F in case you have no clue of the metric system.
Uh. You do realize 90 is not comfortable.
Is it loud
relatively, no.
Can you post an update??
Hi Ana! I moved and no longer using this unit. I'll mention the one in this video started having issues fall 2019 after 2 summers of continuous use. The other less frequently used one (same model) still works fine & no issues. Hope this helps & Thanks for watching!
@@charityemjay Hard water ( usually in dry area ) will kill water pumps eventually and clog up water outlets in the unit. Inexpensive water softening tablets/bars in the tank may help. Or dry running the unit with vinegar for an hour then drain and clean ( the pad too).
My coasters won't attach. I notice you aren't using them. Cute house btw
You have to press really hard in the middle.
I didn't and thanks!
Do you just plug this into a wall for electricity? It doesn't need to have a hose that goes out the window?
Evaporative ("swamp") coolers do not use vent hoses; you're thinking of a portable air conditioner, which uses a hose to vent the hot air out. Evaporative uses outside air with water-cooling it in its operation, and also adding humidity to dry climates. With evaporative you need a window or door open at least a little way; with a/c you need everything closed up to be effective.
For i purchased yesterday but it only creates humidity upto 73 percent but no cooling because temp is 32 C. What am i doing wrong??
You need ventilation. Open up window and or door.
I wanting to purchase this.. But I worry if it will leak?!!
We purchased one about 2 weeks ago (we live in NM) and we have a small seep near the water level little window but it seems to have stopped. Otherwise it’s fantastic...it’s also wonderful for allergies because we live in a dry climate.
@@warrenw939 Thank😍you for this response! I will be looking into purchasing one..
Yes, it’s bound to leak if it has water! At least that’s my experience! Silly me! I had no manual upon inheriting two of these and have had fun solving issues which have been few.
Leakage is zero for us. I get water on our floor if I loosen the hose connector from moving it about too much or twisting the hose. If it’s the beginning of the cooler use time, it only takes a moment to be sure the hose is secure.Battery operated leak detectors work well if you are home.
I bought a hose reel short hose to replace the rigid one already with it. It still is a problem because of the rigidness. I’ve searched for one of those shrinking hoses short enough to use inside. I guess I’ll contact a manufacturer.
I am pleased to have the model 61, too. It is worth trying to make life better and lower electric bills.
Regards...
How much$$$????
$180
what is the output air temperature? tks
depends on your ambient temperature and relative humidity, evaporative cooling can reduce temp by up to 20F
The hotter and dryer the environment the better it works. The filters cool the water and the heat evaporates, and the high velocity fan pushes out the moist cool air.
Best to not use in a room where there's a computer humidity could damage it.
She is operating the unit as instructed and in her dry area, humidity in the room will stay well under 60%.
sweet voice
Thank you
thats more then 2 speeds more like 3
It only has 2 speeds. Low and High and then with pump on or not.
you pronounce it as Hess-Aire
Pump died in less than a year. Now an overpriced fan
Pump is
