This is exactly what I was looking for. I don't want to spend the cash on 5 Axis. I want to inexpensively hit as many sides as I can. This... IS... IT!
    Thank you very much.
    Best Matt

You can do this on a 5-axis too. Add.5"-.75" stock to the dovetail end of your blank. Clamp the part in your preferred fixture. Machine the five sides. Kick the part over 90°, mill half of the sixth side. Rotate 180°, and mill the other half leaving 2 to 3 .010" thick tool tabs holding the part to the dovetail. Remove the part, break off the tool tabs, and blend the mismatch. Not ideal for tight profile tolerances, but my experience has been good for the .030" profile commonly found on most aerospace (Boeing) parts. The beauty is that this blending can be done quickly while the spindle is cutting the next part, plus one less setup to do.

You don't even need the extra machining dovetailing entails... that's really a new fad. Just use grip jaws and hang onto 3mm of material with the max torque clamping for your vise... you shouldn't have any issues, especially for softer materials.

@@ELIJAH_TOOLINGI had to make an odd looking part and was scratching my head to get idea. Your idea helped me and made me some good money. Now I use and improvise on this trick which helps to win over orders which other machine shop pass off

Window framing is really nice to use on 5 axis as well. 99,99% complete part off the machine, just sand down the (2-3)small tabs left from breaking it out of the frame.

I got here by accident, it is 20200920 this video's been around for 2 years and only got 500 views and 9 comments. Gotta say I've got less than zero understanding of near anything you said! But nice video!

You would have to be involved in the aerospace industry most likely, to benefit. Thanks for stopping by!

@@rickmiller2101 Not really- plenty of folks could benefit from the concept, it was just poorly presented here, and cluttered with distracting tangential anecdotes. As is almost always the case, showing is better than telling, as other videos of this exact product have since demonstrated.

I'm not really understanding why you made this so complicated. We have been tabbing parts for 15 years and never needed anything so complex.

Thank you for your comment Harrelson. These videos are intended to assist and inform manufacturers from all types of industries, and some of them are not familiar with this process. In this case I gave some history - which was intended to add color to the story - so I'm sorry if it wasn't well received. It's awesome that you have had success with picture-framing for 15 years. Good for you!
