As a guy who grew up with two parents working in healthcare, and eventually ended up working in the same sector for quite some time before switching jobs, this list spoke to me on a emotional level.
And awesome for giving credits to Psychiatrists, I went to one to help me with my social anxiety and without their help, I wouldn't be the person I am today.

On that note? Surprised Raz wasn't included, if low because he's just starting out at this and is only just starting to get past his "making mistakes" phase over the course of Psychonauts 2. The Psychonauts are, basically, Thera-Spies, after all.

    Honorable Mentions:
    *Morgana - Persona 5
-Granted, Makoto also does have healing moves as well, but this kitty is your first healer and you get him as early as the first palace!
    *Sharla - Xenoblade Chronicles

    *Vestal - Darkest Dungeon

(for example; returning important nutrients back to the soil and get rid of any toxic waste to the plants).
Anyway, I think my fav healer is Cotton Cookie from Cookie Kingdom (who just got recently added to the game and technically a support character.)
Her skill 'A Warm Light' allows her to periodically restore her allies' HP (including her own) and increase the summoned creatures' ATK.
She also summons sheep which charges at the enemies, dealing an area damage and stunning them.

Ngl I was expecting for the FE character it would be Linhardt. Since he’s the best healer in the game on an objective level. Plus on a personality level he hates seeing violence hence why he heals as much as he does. He’s got such a strong hatred of blood he’s really good about following the hypocratic oath unless he’s attacked. And on the advice level he gives a lot of very wise advice, you know when he’s not sleeping

    • @Mr.EintheMorning

I would have thought that title would go to Mercedes. She has healed, physic, and fortify

    • @Aeromancer-Draco-Lord
      @Aeromancer-Draco-Lord 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@Mr.EintheMorning Well not really for a couple of major reasons. Firstly her utility spell pool is nowhere near as good because not only does he also have heal, physic and restore, Linhardt has access to warp which is so much better than fortify. Especially since 3H introduces a lot of more than viable low health strategies and having a spell that heals everyone in a certain vicinity when running those strats is kind of a major issue. In fact objective play recommends those strats hence why Bernadetta with vengeance is so good. Then there’s her offensive spell pool which isn’t very good because she gets no super effective coverage and only gets the fire spells which are ok. Meanwhile Linhardt gets the wind spells which have higher crit rates for one and are a lower weight which means less of a speed drop. Not to mention his access to Excalibur which helps with the obnoxious flying enemies who are pretty strong in 3H. Even when looking at personal skills, live to serve is so situational. It’s only useful if Mercedes has taken damage which she shouldn’t be and she only regains hp when healing, basically making the personal skill redundant when she gets renewal. While Linhardt because he’s male can have access to life taker which heals him after attack. Then his personal skill cat nap stacks with renewal, so Linhardt unintentionally took a severe beating last phase and there’s no one in the vicinity to heal. Next turn he regains health thanks to renewal and either waits and gains more health or attacks something and gets more health. Only direct advantage Mercedes has over Linhardt is access to gremory but even then Marianne, Dorothea, and Hapi are all better choices due to better utility or general offense. So Linhardt is 100% better, and while Mercedes is not a bad unit as this is 3H even the bad units can be made good. She’s just kind of standard better than flayn and Manuela if your going for healers. But best medic in the game not even by a mile

Have to admit, with the octopath music in the background I thought at least one of the 2 healers in the game would make the list. Ophilia as an honorable mention is nice and all, But Alfyn is really underrated. As an Apothecary he creates medicines with a variety of effects. And his story arc thoroughly explores trials and tribulations of the medical field. He searches high and low risking his life to find the the right ingredients for his medicines. He stands up against other doctors committing malpractice for their own benefits. His conviction to save every life he can is questioned when one of his patients turns out to be a violent criminal and he's forced to wonder if someone like that is worth saving. And he even saves someone who wants to die and restores their will to live.

When it comes to Tales healers, usually Estelle wouldn't be the first on my list, though Josh may disagree on healer quality. I'd give it to the OG Tales heroine: Mint Adnade. So very focused on healing that she pretty much sacrifices ALL her offensive options (except a few Pow Hammers). One small bit I wanna add to the obligatory KH rep at 13, since we're specifically bringing up KH 1, I wanna give a shout out to Goofy and his Evolution skill. With how quickly Goofy can rack up MP bars, despite his low amount, he can essentially become an infinite use Mega Potion, healing the entire party with great efficiency. Unequip his other skills, and he becomes an amazing option for healing. But at the same time, considering how tempting it is to have Tornado equipped, sup-up his Strength, and absolutely hyuck-up enemy and boss alike, it's a hard to decide what to go with, but regardless, Goof is definitely one of the best party members in the series. Also, mad respect putting Derek and Athena on the list. Yeah, they're just regular people, but that doesn't make them any less of healers, just like many of our real life surgeons, psychiatrists, and therapists.

Honorable Mentions: All of them made me very, very happy to see them there. Moving on.

Agreed on Yuna and Athena Cykes. With the former it feels like it's because she's got the standard FF white mage moveset and character while Rikku is a different archetype. The latter could work if you don't count gameplay directly, since her healing story-wise feels more metaphorical and not gameplay intention. Could still work as an obligatory Final Fantasy entry and an unique archetype respectively.

Two of my favourite healers are Princess Garnet in FF9 as she perfectly represents the classic job class in the game and her in-game model is wearing the literal White Mage robe when she first meets Zidane.
And second is Rena Lanford from Star Ocean Second Story/Second Evolution, having the whole second half of the game revolve around her and her character is so intriguing but as the primary healer she has single targets and aoe spells as well as buff and weaken spells too so when she is not in the party during certain areas of the plot; it hurts.

    Some of my favorite healers:
    Chasun - Summoners War
I don't know how the meta has changed since I haven't played since 2017, but she was at the time ridiculous. Her Fallen Blossoms skill was completely busted for the longest time since she could equalize any straggling unit with her own health and restore them to full health if she was full.
    Milt - Food Fantasy
In terms of HP, she can heal the entire party for ten seconds when linked with Caviar, she doesn't remove status effects but I don't believe in objectivity so yeah personal bias is in her favor.
    Aeris - Final Fantasy VII
Again, personal bias but she is a strong healer and an endearing personality. It's not a stretch to say that a lot of VII's longevity can be attributed solely to her. Yeah, all of the characters in that particular entry have been Flanderized over the ensuing decades, but going back to the original game you remember how playful and teasing, a far cry from the enigmatic Mary Sue she'd eventually become.

Fun fact regarding Derek Stiles, and some other characters from Trauma Center: They actually cameo in the Etrian Odyssey series! Namely the original versions of 1 and 2 (And 2 Untold, to an extent). How so? Easy: Prior to Etrian Odyssey 3, there were actually two types of shops: The one that gave weapons, armor and some items (Shilleka's Goods in 1 and Sitoth Trading in 2), and a hospital of sorts (In 1, it's Ceft Apothecary and in 2... Lagaard Hospital) that also sold curative items before the shops sold them in later games. These hospitals are handled by one of two characters from Trauma Center: Haufmann, who's the hospital director of the original Trauma Center handles the clinic in EO1 and is even involved in the story mode of Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold as the head of the Midgar Library, a character resembling Angie (The Nurse assistant of Derek Stiles) is involved in certain sidequests of EO2 (Final Edit: She's also an NPC in EO3), and Derek... handles the Lagaard Hospital in EO2, even if his name isn't known in-game... But anybody who knows about Trauma Center can recognize the similarities in appearance.
QUICK EDIT: The games also have a Medic class (more or less VITAL if you want to handle the tough challenges of the Yggdrasil Labyrinth), and though it had many different iterations (War Magus in EO2 to an extent, Monks in EO3 and Botanists in EO5), the Medic Class does reference Trauma Center in some of its skills, with Healing Touch (An Out-of-Combat heal that was only in EO1) referencing Derek Stiles' power and the attack skill Caduceus (A staff attack in the first two games) which can be a reference to the organization (Though, it could be broader than that, since the Caduceus is a symbol used to represent doctors in general), and in Etrian Odyssey 4, one of the Male Medic avatars references a doctor in the last game of the series, Trauma Team, named Gabriel Cunningham.

My pick is Nia from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, because she's a damn good healer, has a very sassy personality where she comes off as cold at first, but quickly accepts Rex over her past with Torna, has a pretty tragic backstory, and... Unless we're factoring in a potential of a harem, she kind of got done dirty by Rex when it came to his focus on Pyra and Mythra, just like how Melia got ignored by Shulk when Fiora returned (eventhough I prefer Fiora more).
And I guess I'll give an honorable mention to Sharla from the first game, since she can actually heal with a gun, and is far from timid since early in the game, she develops a huge hatred for the Mechon, not to mention her way to talk sense into Reyn.

    for some info ahead.
Rena Lanford, Star Ocean II - is one of the selectable protagonists, is actually good in combat, and has some nasty offensive spells on top of being the better of only *two* possible Healers in the game.
Nia & Dromarch, Xenoblade Chronicles II - sassy catgirl and her pet *tiger* are your main healer - until Nia reveals herself to be a Goddess-tier Blade herself, making Rex all but unkillable gameplay-wise. And she does a ton of damage for a Healer-type Blade.
Frog, Ayla, and Robo from Chrono Trigger - the shapeshifted Knight, the strong-as-an-ox Cavewoman, and the futuristic (literal) Killing Machine are not the people you'd think would carry healing powers. Yet, they have some great single and party-healing powers, and can combo with other characters to have some of the best party-heals in the game.
The Baby Metroid, Metroid: Samus Returns and Super Metroid - it only has two apperances, yes. It's not much of a "character" outside of those two appearances, yes. But it *does* heal Samus during fights against two of her most dangerous adversaries, while dealing severe damage to both in return.

For me my favorite healer is Elara Dorne from Star Wars the Old Republic who is the Republic Trooper's healing party member. It isn't even just because of how good having a healer is for a class like Trooper which is about tanking I like her character. She is an Imperial Defector who overcompensates for her past by knowing the Republic Military regulations from cover to cover and being a former Medic when she was in the Empire, is one of the only healer characters to have medical training in their backstory.
A close honorable thought belongs to Nathan "Dallas" Steele from Payday 2. Due to how the game's character builder works, Dallas isn't the only person who can heal but the Mastermind skill tree and the Crew Chief perk deck which are associated with Dallas due to being the leader of the gang have some of the best healing abilities in the game. The Crew Chief perk deck when fully upgrade has a passive boost to the heal of the rest of the crew and two of the three branches of his Mastermind tree feature multiple useful healing abilities. The Medic branch improves the use of either First Aid kits which can regenerate some health for whoever uses it or Doctor Bags which can both heal a player and reset the number of times they can go down before being put in custody (effectively means you are dead) and Inspire which when upgraded means you can instantly revive a downed player by shouting at them. The Controller branch also has some beneficial passive abilities such as Forced Friendship which when upgraded gives damage absorption to the crew that increases with how many hostages you have, Stochholm Syndrome which is effectively an automatic revive for players in custody (though it is only good once) and other passive buffs for having hostages or converted enemies. It also surprisingly fitting in a game that has you play as ruthless criminals Dallas is the healer archetype because while he is not the most compassionate person in the world, he does care about his crew which is shown in the myth and how he felt about having to leave one of his crew behind.

I don’t know if it counts but I wanna mention this because I remember him well. Joe Castle from Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII. In the game, you play as a fighter squadron Captain and can command your wingmen. Tom will keep fighters off you, Frank will go after targets and Joe can fix your plane from damage. How? His role is “Mechanic Wizard”, which means he can take one look at your plane and give you a diagnosis (basically do a button combo and the plane’s ‘Health’ goes back to max). I used him a lot playing the game, since I wasn’t so good. In the narrative of the game, he’s the youngest of the pilots and thus gets into more trouble than he should. Still, he pulls his own weight and is good company since his personality is ‘Southern Farmboy’. But the game kills him off by the third act. It becomes such a gutpunch not just narratively, but it means by that point you won’t have the healing mechanic anymore. Every mission from then on has more weight, since it means if you wanna 100% the game, you need to play the game perfectly, with little to no damage. And everyone feels the weight of his loss, especially Tom. I dunno, I feel like he’s the character that made the game memorable for me...besides being the game before I played War Thunder.

In the two D&D campaigns I'm currently playing, I'm actually the main healer in both groups.
In my first game, I'm playing a living doll (homebrew race) cleric with an identity-crisis named Coppélia. She was made in the image of her creator's late daughter in hopes that his daughter might be able to live on through her, but seemingly failed. Years after her creation, Coppélia suddenly came to life after years of being locked away in a glass case in a toy shop, always looked upon but never played with like a doll should, and ran away from her creator. I honestly don't know if the toymaker who created her is gonna turn out to be a good guy or a bad guy, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that part of her backstory will be played out. Although she lacks any true emotions of her own, she is desperate to hide her identity as a living doll in fear of being locked away again. She's very observant and mimics the behavior of others to try and pass as a living being. She utterly despises that she isn't a real girl and wants nothing more than to become one. A real Pinocchio situation, I know, but one that I've managed to make unique to her. Her party believe her to be a little girl on the run from a abusive home, but she's managed to hold her own and prove herself useful with her healing spells and a racial ability she has that allows her to detect the race type and alignment of others. She's really won over the hearts of her teammates has established some bonds with some of them. One relationship is very much like that of sisters, while another is mostly my character bluntly pointing out the many mistakes of our human paladin (not maliciously or anything, but it does give everyone a good laugh).
In my other game, I'm play an aasimar/drow cleric (formally a warlock) named Estanna. If you couldn't guess, I made her an intentional edgelord. Luckily, no one has had any issues with how I play her and I even inspired the others to get more into roleplay with my character. She was born into a cult after her father, the head of the temple of the goddess of the hearth, was abducted. Her father was sacrificed not long after they tired to escape, and she swore vengeance against the cult and the goddess who had seemingly betrayed her father. She ended up making a deal with a fury in exchange for power (making her a warlock) and escaped the cult, but was not strong enough to destroy them. She knew that she had to team up with strong adventurers if she was to have any hope of defeating the cult which motivated her to join the party. Through her interactions with the party, however, she discovered that not all of the world viewed her as some destructive monster who could only do evil and began to question her path. After quite a bit of development, she abandoned her pact with the fury and was able to learn the truth about why no one helped her and her father, inspiring her to finally become the cleric she wanted to be before losing her father. She still has massive trust issues and some anger management to work out, but she's fiercely protective of the party and would sooner give her life than risk lose someone else important to her. I personally find it kinda funny how the edgelord of the group somehow managed to develop the strongest bonds with the two goofballs of the party, a literal Prince Naveen bard (cursed frog prince and all) and a gluttonous dragonborn paladin. Her relationship with the bard is based on the two having rather similar backstories, though from different points of lifestyles (hers from a cultist life while his is from a royal life). It so far feels like a bond between a big brother and little sister, and I am loving it. Her relationship with the paladin is a bit more heartbreaking. In their first major battle after she became a cleric, she was rendered powerless by some petrification spell (she wasn't turned to stone, but wasn't able to move) and witnessed the paladin die, triggering her worst memory of how her father died. We were able to revive the paladin after quite the journey, but she now has quite a bit of trauma after the event and is terrified of seeing him die again, which he sadly will if we don't defeat the leaders of the cult that imprisoned my character within 3 months as part of a deal the paladin had to make with the god of death to be allowed to return to life.
I'm really excited to see how my clerics' stories will turn out and I'm really glad that I was able to put an interesting twist on the "healer persona" for them both in unique ways. One isn't a living being who desperately wishes to be alive, while the other is a reforming edgelord with trauma. Okay, maybe not the most original ideas in the world, but not really the first things you would think of for the main healer. Let me know what you guys think of them.

I wonder if we'll see Blissey from Pokémon make the list.

If we’re talking healers, then you gotta talk about Overwatch’s Mercy. A angel that descends from the heavens above to heal all her party members even those that fell in battle…….
That is until blizzard nurfed her into the ground!
But my personal favorite is Moira. Like the medic from team fortress, she’s more a mad scientist than her counterpart Mercy. But her ability’s that allows her to drain health from her enemy’s, while healing herself and her allies can be essential.
There’s also my favorite from the Type moon Fate series. Nightingale. A servant based on the famed medic herself, Florence Nightingale. She’s a great help to the team, being able to heal and cure debuffs. Her personality, being effected since she’s in the berserker class. Means she’ll heal you, even if she had to kill you. Which makes for great comedy.

Not everyone has played Fate/Grand Order, sadly. I feel that most of Josh's community and Josh himself haven't tried FGO nor are interested at it. So... let's respect that.

back to Yuri and Estel, would you see them as more of a Sibling dynamic more then anything?
Like, while I admit to not finishing Vesperia yet myself, I get the feeling Yuri is ultimately the "big brother to all" type. He taunts and teases the heck out of everyone in the party but if he counts you as one of the group he will stand up for you against anything and finds way to bolster the confidence of others.

while i love using the Legend of Dragoon for the countdown how did you not include Miranda/Shana in the list at the very least honorable mention? at the end of the game you get her best weapon exploding arrow that attacks all enemies and does massive damage. her dragon magic once you get her to lv 5 does 100 light magic to all enemies and 100% heals the whole team

Daisoujou from SMT 3 is an excellent healer. He has a low cost magic-buff affected almighty hp/mp drain move to prevent him from ever running out of resources, he has room for additional buffs and debuffs, an excellent all-targeting Mind attack with 40% chance of Mind ailments, he completely ignores ailments along with dark and light, aaaand he has the most powerful heal move in the whole game that is both a full heal and an ailment cure. And you can get him as early as level 37.

I stopped using my daisoujou when he was level 54.
I was outleveling him by almost ten levels, and I still kept using him.

To be fair on the Medic's lack of the Hypocratic Oath, his bio mentions he grew up in Stuttgart back when it was the Hypocratic Optional Suggestion.
