    Mistake on capacitors. capacitance of capacitors in parallel double.

    Thanks for letting us peer over your shoulder in the shop Buddy. Always something new to learn from you! You should
    finish the job on the Eico 324 then give it away to a viewer. I've got a working recapped Triplett 3432-A signal generator
    and the only thing I need to replace is the RF Output jack. It did come with it's original probe with a matching plug that
    also needs changing out to a BNC too.

    • @TheRadioShop
      @TheRadioShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool on the Triplett, changing to a bnc is always my first priority, this way all my standard cables work. Working on part 2 now. Thanks for watching.

    Nice job! I have one of these because of one of your earlier videos. Caps replaced, tubes tested, and switches cleaned, but I need to do some further testing to see if I can clean up the signals. Thanks for sharing.

      @@TheRadioShop I added another stage to the RC filter. Lowered voltage and ripple. Oh and its a bridge rectifier ( 4 diodes) . used another of the same value resistor/capacitor for RC filter thats there already.

    Great cideo Buddy!
    I have a TEKTRONIX 321 and I recapped it but the big filter caps were goon and high quality so I left them alone.
    My scope works okay but like all scopes I have the DC balance changes when I select differant ranges on the volts per div dial, the base line moves up and down.
    I would like to see a video on that problem.
    I also have the EICO 324 and it works well, the tracking is off so I set the ranges in the middle frequencies where they are spot on but the upper and lower ends are a little off but I use a counter on it anyway so it don't matter.

    • @TheRadioShop
      @TheRadioShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea on using a counter Bill. That does help a lot. Unit is already boxed up so cannot make that video for you, sorry. If I ever get my hands on another one I will show that. Thanks for watching.

    In words of Mr Carlson's Lab, those are foil and paper capacitors, they are outa there, no questions asked!

  • @TheEmbeddedHobbyist
    @TheEmbeddedHobbyist 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To double the voltage you need to put then in series, which is then 1/2 the cap value. Also if the caps are different values the voltage will on each cap will be a ratio of their values. if they are the same value the voltage will be a 50:50 split.
    Still a nice video and enjoyed watching it.

    Just wondering, why can’t regular solder be used to replace components soldered in with silver solder?

    • @NearFarMedia
      @NearFarMedia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The silver solder is required when soldering to the ceramic standoffs as the metal layer is silver that is bonded to the ceramic.
      With non-silver solder and/or too much heat, the silver delaminates from the ceramic as the silver leeches away from the ceramic into the solder.
      The are a very reliable construction method and basically never wear out, as long as you use silver solder (3% silver) and use as little heat as possible when soldering.

    Is that a RCA Nuvistor just above the double row of trimmer caps? And like another viewer said, paralleling up two caps will simply add the values together. Don't feel like the Lone Ranger though I made the same mistake the other day teaching a General upgrade course but caught myself (luckily before the students did!). Nice work as usual Buddy! 73 - Dino KLØS

    • @TheRadioShop

    • @TheRadioShop
      @TheRadioShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is correct, my mistake

    • @chessapk5034
      @chessapk5034 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheRadioShop no worries, it happens. The only risk-issue with paralleling caps is that the original cap may eventually short. I personally think that risk is slim based upon seeing hundreds of examples of this being done by previous techs and never once seeing the original cap short... but certainly the right way to do it is to remove the old cap from circuit.
