Light started out with the best intentions...but like the saying goes from one of my favorite book series (Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind) "The greatest harm can come from from the best intentions." That is entirely true for what Light ended up doing. This is a really good song for this anime series, well done! :)
This was an incredible series. I'm betting that Light was turned into a shinigami. Another thing, Light was easily corrupted by the Death Note's power ; you saw him at the end of the first episode and throughout the series.
I like the idea that light didn't really care weather or not he'd win against Near and just wanted to see how well he'd do against him. But already was planning his death and his legacy and becoming a Shnighami, it's just that as Shinigami he can not write the name of most criminals anymore as that might be seen as saving them which would ultimately kill him. So he built up his Kkra reputation first so that more people would likely be willing to do it for him. But it would be fun to see him as Shinigami trying to get Near to pick it all up maybe offering him the 'earser' that has been mentioned at times that can earase any name fom a death book and bring someone back to life and give us L back. And then L and Near trying to stop him, probably with trying to earase his name from the death book so he'd not be aShinigami anymore.
