    Thank you for the shout out!
    Yes, there are doors and double wide doors with clips! However the plastic clips are fragile. So heads up on that one.

    Watching your unboxing is as close as I will ever get to these products. And I couldn’t be happier. Not because they seem bad, but because I have realized that I can confidently say that I already have more RPG stuff than I will ever need. And it’s very relaxing 🥳

    The town looks to be the most interesting. Thieves and flying things love to be up on buildings and this really gives you great representation for this. I did not see round rooms however, but I have not been to the site yet. I love to make stuff so I could make a lot of things like this. On a side note, if you do outdoor action you can make 'climbable, trees with woolen spools and disks painted like trees of various heights. It would make a good addition to any scenario and product.

    I hope they make one specifically for the Heroquest board

      They likely would need to partner with AH to do that but I'd want it.

      Only if it had Heroquest branding they could just make one the right dimensions to fit all the rooms

    Looks cool! Hey, you should do like a podcastey video and just nostalgia babble about maybe your introduction to fantasy gaming and fantasy in general, about the old HQ and why it's good, maybe about WHQ, Oldhammer and so on

    This will certainly HeroQuest, and I can see not only designing queats with these in mind, but running a random generator akin to AHQ or as made by some of our player/members. Combined with a HQ Board, then you could really have a village on the board. Some doors locked, some maybe not, which door will you try?

      Of course there is Crooked Staff Terrain, and with Kris' graphics (even his free stuff) you can make something simular.

      Really thinking on town / settlement systems to use between quests. The flipping upside down / stacking of assets, then using as interiors is really appealing to me.

    Disclaimer: Having an other than positive opinion does not make me special. We all have our subjective thoughts, or at least I do.
    That said, I am not a fan of this style of game aid. And here is why:
    I own the Firefly Adventures: Brigands and Browncoats board game from GF9. It's an okay game, and I am a fan of the IP. One of the elements that originally caught my attention with the game, was that it includes the same style of "3D" building elements. In that game you have large (gridded) square tiles, and during set up you place the cardboard structures on the larger tiles to make up the Town/ Outpost/ etc. Neat concept, with all the thematic art, and added dimension of being able to enter buildings to look for objectives, rescue the prisoner, and so on. The couple of existing expansions, very cleverly used the bottoms of the expansion boxes as additional buildings. Neat.
    Unfortunately, in practice, using the buildings has proven to be more nuisance than immersion. The "walls" are too high, which blocks player line of sight across the table, and also often hides what's actually in the "Building" without having to reposition to get a look. Worse, getting into the relatively small spaces of the interiors, is very cramped, so moving miniatures, flipping objectives, and so on, leads to frequent "Jostling" of the building which can knock items over, reposition tokens, etc. It's still a good game unto itself, but using the cardboard "Buildings" is mostly a hassle. They're just too small, too tall, and too light. These are design flaws inherent in the product. If the walls were shorter they'd lose some of the impact of the wall art. And in the case of the Modular Dungeons showcased in this video, would lose their dual purpose of adding height to the buildings when they are turned "Upside down."
    They do have a pretty cool table presence, and the initial "Wow" factor when first time players see them is all great, I just have not found them to be particularly functional in practice. (In Firefly, I have not messed with these Modular Dungeons sets). I remain a firm believer in 2D tiles.
    Now, I will concede that there are a few larger "Rooms/ Buildings" in these fantasy sets, which could reduce some of the claustrophobic maneuvering that can lead to board elements shifting and getting knocked about, but there are still smallish rooms and corridors here. Additionally, while the door clips may add some stability to the overall layout, the potential is still there, possibly worse, for having the whole layout impacted by a stray jostling from enthusiastic gamer meat-paws.
    It's a shame really, the creativity behind this type of product is clear, the enhanced table presence is irrefutable, and the price when compared to other table top terrain on the market is not bad. I want to like this sort of thing, and I think for some folks it may be exactly what they want to add to the toolbox.
    Regardless, and again, not liking this style of game element in no way makes my opinion authoritative or objective... In short it's my own take and surely does not make me special, that is; to hold such contrarian views.
    The overview video itself is great, and I am always a fan of letting folks know what cool gaming tools are on the market, so kudos there--I find your educating the world on such gaming gear, of great value. Another solid vid, Ash.

    The description for the town on that page you were looking at says "sci-fi" - doesn't look very sci-fi to me from the pictures.
    Maybe it's the packed in adventure?
    And I suppose there does seem to be a clock tower, which not all fantasy settings have the technology for.
    I've seen these products on Amazon, they do look interesting.

    Look pretty cool, but very rigid in its lack of flexibility in sizing. And I could be wrong, but I didn’t see any corridors.

    • @AshQuest
      @AshQuest  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the 2x tile-wide "rooms" are our corridors; that said, that's not quite the claustrophobic and dangerous 1x width of HeroQuest (it's more how advanced heroquest and warhammer quest did things). You could still force 1x corridors by putting rooms inside rooms, but you won't have a very large map!

      @AceSpec 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AshQuest yeah, some creativity is certainly required. But that has to be said about any alternative terrain option. I got into Dungeons and Lasers terrain, and it’s not without its own limitations, but I’m enjoying it.

    They look nice, but good luck placing an abomination or gargoyle on the squares adjacent to walls.

    • @AshQuest
      @AshQuest  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, the wall height (and existence of walls in general) is something that I completely blanked on and I can definitely see the list of issues that it presents. If anything, the town for RP scenes would be something to look into -- I'm really liking the "turn upside down" aspect of these pieces, and the stackability.

      @AshQuest I've been tempted by other variants of these types of products, and I do think they'd be great about 75% of the time, but yeah they would occasionally cause headaches for HeroQuest. I'll probably stick with the Loke mats.
