Woodward-Fieser's rules for conjugated dienes

- After studying a large number of diferent conjugated dienes, Woodward and Fieser came up with an empirical correlation between the structural changes and λmax, that enable us to predict the λmax of an unknown diene. These are called Woodward-Fieser rules. In this lecture, different term involved, Woodward-Fieser rules for dienes and some examples have breen discussed in detail.

Just check where you can see double bond and a cut can be made

Those akyl groups are not part of the conjugation system
For the third example, the alkyl groups were not considered....why??
This is because they are not attached to the conjugated system

Why do we consider homoannular base value and not heteroannular? How do you know which one to chose?
Which have more value then we choose that value...as u know homoannular have more value than heteroannular that's why we prefer homoannular as compared to heteroannular

If there is no extending conjunction after diene and one double bond additional present in different ring so can we predict it as 5nm as it is endocyclic in a ring ?
