Gta online in a nutshell. I actually prefer the ps3 and Xbox 360 online nowadays. At least you get to play the damn game without waiting a millenial and have a decent amount of fun if playing with friends.
I disagree on the car dialogue point. That's something I've always really appreciated about the Rockstar games. Driving isn't just dead air-you're getting more engagement as you travel. And real people do talk when they're in the car together, so from the point of realism it adds a lot. You can make the argument that hardened killers wouldn't have such a carefree conversation, but these games always have walked the line between contemplative and absurd. I don't know. Not everyone will like it, but I do. I feel like it adds more humanity to these characters, so we sympathize with their stories more.
And the game focus more on the criminal activities, family and other side missions, its not the game fault that you dont like it. Go and play something else.
I don't think he meant that there shouldn't be driving dialogues. It's just the timing and topics that make it very weird. The characters get inside the car and immediately start a story, then the story ends and they don't talk until you arrive at your destination. I understand how difficult it is, but Rockstar should aim to achieve conversations that are a little more realistic in terms of time spent in silence, time spent telling anecdotes and time spent just chatting about, because that's how real car conversations go. I think they'll manage it in their next titles.
Personally I think it makes it feel like they’re even more psychotic. They can go rob banks and mow down mobs of people without blinking and then get in a car and talk about hipsters and joke around immediately after? Fucking psychos yo. Granted Rockstar games always have a certain level of comedic absurdity so it never really bothered me in the way dunkey is talking about it.
Merlin Merlout eh kind of. When the talking head (forgot his name) is telling a story, he stops in the middle of it if you get out of the boat. You have to just sit there in your boat and wait if you want to hear the whole story.
Yup, me too. It added a lot of flavor to what would otherwise be boring driving sequences. It also allowed for a way to flesh out characters without having drawn out cut scenes. Also "violent criminals being sociable" isn't only extremely common in all forms of crime fiction, but is actually how many gangs and groups of criminals operate irl. You tend to form bonds with those you take risks with, it's just human nature.

I gotta give them props for improving their open worlds in rdr2. Most buildings are enterable and a lot of them have interesting stuff going on. Shame that the traveling between missions got a million times more tedious.
I won't say "most" what you can enter is impressive but it mostly consists of shacks, storefronts, homesteads of course it's easier on developers to make accessible meanwhile actual enterable buildings like the one in ST Denis are utterly wasted.
@@themadtitan7603 I would say that having every single building be open is gratuitous, even in a world with few buildings like rdr2. I used to think that I would love to have every building be open to me in a gta game, but then I really thought about it. What would be the point of this? Just to be immersed a little bit more? That's waaaaaay too much work for little to no pay off. I think Rockstar did well with the buildings that you can explore in their most recent game, but to ask for more would be incredibly short sighted.

Wouter R he was solely talking about online. I feel like rdr2 is overrated. Gameplay is clunky and makes u feel like a baby, each mission being told what to do and ur gun aims for u. Besides its only one difficulty which i must assume is moderate cuz the auto aim should be accessible for like harder difficulties. The saving grace is the narrative, characters, and performances. My fav missions are the ones that feel the same but are impacted more cuz of the events of the story. 7/10

Honestly, the complete brazen hated for shark cards seems a little much... I have 10m earned with friends and joining random people's setups. There's a lot to spend that on, but a lot of it is rather pointless crap. There's a sense of accomplishment when you earn it, shark cards are the easy way around but they don't give you any sense of accomplishment. If they just gave you the everything and the kitchen sink, it would be boring. You'd play for like a few hours, get bored, then leave and never come back... Would you rather get a friend to quickly do doomsday act 1 and 3 earning fast money, or would you rather have 50m, buy whatever you want until that gets boring? I feel all you really need is like 10m for all the fun stuff, rest is extra.
Those shark cards are what fund all the updates bro. You dont have to buy them. Only time i buy shark cards is when i hit 0. And cant get vehicles delivered. Thats happened 3 times so far. Lol

Another thing that you forgot to mention is that Rockstar are not fully aware of themselves. They are always comfortable making satires and poking fun of other GTA clones, but when other games or shows, parody their games they start throwing lawsuit tantrums. while the quality of the spoken games may be varied, they still look like complete hypocrites .
Sometimes, it seems like they're incapable of NOT writing satire. The first two Max Payne games had deep, compelling, distinct, morally-ambiguous characters, as befits a noir tribute. Max Payne 3 had nearly-identical shallow jerks that are probably supposed to satirize corporate culture. But since the series had never been about corporate culture (in either of the Remedy games OR 3, for that matter), they're just... there, being unlikable assholes.
I feel like the dialogue in cars is a thing precisely because Rockstar is aware that there are long stretches of their game where you are just going from Point A to Point B and need something to make it less boring, but honestly, it only makes all the times you're just in the car driving stick out harder in your brain.
It gets worse when your favourite song is playing on the radio but you can't hear it because the characters too busy talking about nothing. In the GTA trilogy, car dialogue wasn't much of an issue because characters didn't talk for an absurd length of time and (for the most part) they only spoke when they had something meaningful to say or it played into the story well. Also, the amount of missions that required characters to be in the same vehicle were drastically lower than IV and V.
Let's not forget the following: - Rockstar will ban you for being in a lobby with a troll - Rockstar will send you a cease and desist if you are a modder - Rockstar increases their prices on Steam before sales so their game prices remain the same - A game that is 5 years old still has a retail price of $60+ dollars - (Edit) A full price game with microtransactions
It's still $60 because people are still actively buying it. It's been on the Steam Top Selling list ever since it first came out. It's not gonna stop being sold at full price until GTA VI comes out.

You're right overwatch isn't a good example of getting right into the action for some reason whenever I wanna play overwatch it takes 5-10 minutes for me to get in a game.

I've used the tools that do this. Now your boi Ruku meets somewhere in the middle, cheating his way to riches without greifing people afterwards. In fact, through those Riches I met a couple of guys that, like me, enjoy flying the in-game Jets. I was the only person that didn't crash. Then again, I was using a Jumpjet to simplify Landings. Then again, all those crashes happened mid-flight so a Jumpjet shouldn't make a difference.
@oldcracker You probably weren’t around when GTA Online first came out but their “cheater lobbies” were insane. Idk if they still have them, but it was actually TOO anti-cheat. You’d get sent to their cheater lobbies just for blowing up a few players cars; eventually they fixed it... but those lobbies were fun af
Gta is not p2w honestly, and everything is accessible to the player without having to drop a dime... You just have to put time into it just like any other MMO. Put your money towards the right things, and you can earn 2m to buy almost anything within a few hours. If rockstar allowed you to do everything or whatever you want with whatever you want, the online would be as dead as gta 4 online was.
I liked the small talk in GTA five during the missions where you drive long stretches. It adds some depth and backstory to the characters and they can throw some cheeky banter too.
Replayers and achievement hunters. They've already heard the dialogue but they still have to do the fucking boring drive. Really, the last thing you need is for a game to emulate real life.

GTA V may have had thr bigger map, But gta sa had the better map. I actually wanted to explore because its like they realized that states wont have just 1 city in them.
It's interesting that even in SA it seems like they spent a lot more time on Los Santos than any other part, but it still feels bigger to me because the urban areas are spaced out much more evenly. LS, SF and LV are placed in different corners of the map, which means you'll be touring the countryside a lot and likely stumble upon something new. In V practically everything interesting takes place in LS, which only makes up the lowest third of the map. Now I'm just thinking out loud, but if Rockstar had placed LS in the center of the map and have the countryside surround it, I think it would've felt way less empty. Alternatively, making the town on the north edge of the map bigger and putting more missions there would ensure players actually have a reason to drive around much more, and probably end up exploring more too.

GTA SA had a bad map too. The boonies and the desert was a bunch of pointless empty space that did nothing but add boring commute time between some missions. Vice City and III had the better maps.
overwatch was pretty fun back in the day. but very unbalanced, never got balanced and only received more unbalanced heroes. then they got this role play thing. man gtfo. after activision took over the game really became shit.
tbh personally, i like the dialogues and conversations the characters have when you’re driving or riding a horse, it helps me feel more connected to the character bc they go in depth with their personality and who they are. but thats just me tho, but still good point burkey

I think your most valid point is about how so many locations go unutilized by the campaign. You would think gambling minigames or a casino heist ala San Andreas are great opportunities to flesh out the world more. My only guess is that Rockstar at some point did intend to use those locations, possibly in DLC single player stories. Then GTA Online started gaining so much traction that they revised their plans and shifted their efforts on maintaining and growing GTA Online.
The writing quality in the cutscenes versus the driving parts in GTA 5 was so different that I became convinced that they were written by completely different teams
I wish there was a way to block phone calls in GTA Online. Getting 3-4 calls EVERY time you log in, to hear the same things, is already annoying, but the fact that it will basically prevent you from doing ANYTHING as soon as the phone pops up takes the cake. Even if you're being shot at and are trying to fight back, the game will not allow you to shoot until you pick up that phone. And it happens at random, too, to make it extra fun.
Carlos Millard GTA V probably has the most weak soundtrack of any GTA game. Not to say GTA V's music is subpar, but we have been given a lot better with the likes of Vice City and GTA IV.
The more leaned back old school GTA in general is more my jam; talking in cars to and from mission, slowly dwelling into chaos through peaceful missions escalating the story towards the action, longer cutscenes exploring the characters backstory, that kinda thing. Probably the main reason I’d favor GTA IV over V. Modern games are too fast a pace for my taste.
This video is old, but I need to say this: You *need* those boring missions for pacing. If every mission was an exhilarating thrill ride it would drain the player out too quickly. By having those missions in the game it makes the more exciting missions stand out because they become more impactful and memorable as a result. Besides, it’s not like those missions don’t contribute something to the overall narrative. The whole point of that truck mission was to show how different Franklin is from his childhood friends who all became crackheads and drug addicts, while he’s trying his best to escape that life and make something of himself. The dialogue isn’t there just for the sake of it, it’s there to add depth and flesh out the characters. It’s a really natural way to peek inside the minds of these guys, just like real life. Be honest, how many times have you ever been in a car with someone else and you *didnt* say something to one another for the duration of the trip, even if it was some of the most dumbest shit imaginable? So while I don’t agree with your arguments about the car conversations or the boring missions, you pretty much nailed it with the rest of the video.
I don't think that boring missions necessarily contribute to a better pacing compared to the fun missions. I think that pacing is developed through fun moments that hype the player to keep playing and stale moments that level down the gameplay, and gta has always have plenty of that. The driving sections of the game could be shorter but I agree that they can be essential or simply enjoyable if the quirks of the characters are utilized correctly. But as I say, they need to be shorter or simply more interesting like in god of war. The conversations between Kratos and Atreus reflect how you can balance boring gameplay with an actual content that feels interesting to the player. I'm just saying that gta 6 should try to improve the gta formula to a modern audience that has expirienced an evolution in the open world type games.

I’m not saying make every mission “boring” I’m saying that the missions which are slower than the rest are necessary for the overall pacing and development of the plot and story and help contribute to making those exciting missions more powerful. They help with buildup and suspense. For example: if you took away all the preparation missions for all the heists in GTA V the actual heists themselves would feel less satisfying and grandiose as a result because you didn’t lay the groundwork for getting those heists completed in the first place.
I thought this too, but you can easily make a million every 3 hours fairly passively. even while you piss around in free mode, there are high paying CEO missions and challenges, double RP / $ helps too when thats a good week.
It's boring though. Much of the time it's needless exposition, until its not and it's a genuine conversation which you can't see go on. Its boring af. Red Dead on the other hand makes more sense.

There's a lot more you could have criticized- like how a majority of the online content isn't even made available in singleplayer without mods, the idea of singleplayer dlc was thrown out in favor of focusing on their bordering-on-abuse shark cards with a stranglehold on cash players can make in GTA Online so they're more inclined to pay up, they ditched the proper friendly freeroam that red dead redemption had and gave the poor substitute of whatever that passive mode was supposed to accomplish (it actually just removes you from having any fun safely, kudos for that fuckup Rockstar, can't even defend yourself from cops if you get in trouble, RDR had it right ffs) and the world itself is even more hollow than you said. It's a big ol' diorama that looks great on the surface but below that, you can't even enter restaurants and the number of miscellaneous buildings you can enter is terribly low. And missions that open up interiors only do it for that mission, then the building closes back up as if you didn't easily get inside before. Even in Vice City you could enter a mall, you could enter a police station, you could go inside one of the houses the first island, find a scarface easter egg and a free chainsaw. Exploration for the sake of exploration has been thrown out, and rockstar have given into a "bigger is better" ideology which is... Well it's just wrong.
Older GTA games let you go in many buildings, GTA V doesn't. Older Elder Scrolls games gave you so much freedom you could invent your own spells, or equip different gloves to each individual hand or pauldrons to each shoulder. Skyrim has none of that. (not to mention flying, mark and recall, permanent summon enchantments, etc) I think becoming a mainstream highly profitable industry was the worst thing to happen to gaming. Games are shinier but lack substance. I don't understand why games won't continue to build on their foundations, why good ideas aren't carried over into the sequels while graphics and game-play are improved at the same time. Oh right, billions in revenue. There's no incentive to improve what is already selling.
The Elder Scrolls spellcrafting was pretty much a balancing nightmare as far as I remember. As for the gloves part, I think you're going past Morrowind for that. Fine, but I think that's a bit of a stretch when you remember the matter of certain armours missing "parts" of the set, leading to console modding them back in. Sometimes "streamlighting" isn't a bad thing. And besides, there's mods for that. d=P
Dest Raw Stop acting as if there aren't any good games anymore. Some new games might lack substance but there are plenty of others that don't. And plenty more will come out in the future which actually do provide the kind of experience we want. It all depends on what games you're looking for and how much you restrict yourself in terms of trying new games.
Can we also talk about the insane level of grinding needed to buy stuff and the massive gaps in payments for jobs/gamemodes in GTA online? It really forces players into only having 2 or 3 ways to scrape together any noteworthy amount of money.

I can't believe you didn't talk about shark cards. The entirety of GTA online is designed to make you want to pay for in game currency. It's such a chore to accomplish everything in the game from loading into a server to loading into a match and then loading back into the world etc. And then you have to actually do well to actually make any money. Plus there's plenty of ways to make money in the open world, but you'll almpost always get fucked with by other players. The price of apartments, cars, and basically everything is ridiculous for the amount of time required to make enough money to pay for anything. The entire point of GTA is to get tons of money, but you can literally skip the entire game if you pay microtransactions. And they aren't even worth it either because you have to pay like $100 dollars to get one of the new cars.... or just play the game for 200 hours.
Well, even if you have businesses, they're only usable in free-for-all lobbies, meaning: One tries to drive the below-average streetcar to a destination while being followed by someone in an attack chopper, a bomber, a fighter jet and either a normal tank or the new sci-fi tank which is as good as the normal tank without upgrades. But of course one can spend several millions of dollars on upgrades for that tank to become even more OP. Also: if a game needs to be modified by third parties in order to be fun, fair, etc., it sure is a point worth criticising.
The car dialog in GTA IV seemed way more dynamic.. if you'd heard the conversation on the way to a mission but then failed and had to restart, that same conversation wouldn't happen, it was very naturally cut short. They seemed to forget this in GTAV, taking the design BACKWARDS
I think it's the difference between Rockstar making games going "what would the player have the most fun with?" and instead going "we're going to force the player to have fun with this." For example, no, Nintendo doens't make "cool" games like Rockstar, but damn are most of them really FUN to play. They're just so damned enjoyable. Playing through a GTA game at times feels like "I have to get through this" instead of "I WANT to get through this." Another example is that when I play Skyrim or BoTW, when I'm out of the game, I'm THINING about the game: "hmmm...I've got to remember to check out that one thing or go to that one place or make sure to get those items." When I play a GTA game, it's like I forget about the game after I've stopped playing.

The game came out in 2004. Of course the mechanics of the game are going to be quite clunky especially in a really really big game at the time. I do agree with u though, the shooting mechanics was ass.

I disagree on the car dialogue point. That's something I've always really appreciated about the Rockstar games. Driving isn't just dead air-you're getting more engagement as you travel. And real people do talk when they're in the car together, so from the point of realism it adds a lot. You can make the argument that hardened killers wouldn't have such a carefree conversation, but these games always have walked the line between contemplative and absurd.
I don't know. Not everyone will like it, but I do. I feel like it adds more humanity to these characters, so we sympathize with their stories more.

I don't think he meant that there shouldn't be driving dialogues. It's just the timing and topics that make it very weird. The characters get inside the car and immediately start a story, then the story ends and they don't talk until you arrive at your destination. I understand how difficult it is, but Rockstar should aim to achieve conversations that are a little more realistic in terms of time spent in silence, time spent telling anecdotes and time spent just chatting about, because that's how real car conversations go. I think they'll manage it in their next titles.
Personally I think it makes it feel like they’re even more psychotic. They can go rob banks and mow down mobs of people without blinking and then get in a car and talk about hipsters and joke around immediately after? Fucking psychos yo. Granted Rockstar games always have a certain level of comedic absurdity so it never really bothered me in the way dunkey is talking about it.

Yup, me too. It added a lot of flavor to what would otherwise be boring driving sequences. It also allowed for a way to flesh out characters without having drawn out cut scenes.
Also "violent criminals being sociable" isn't only extremely common in all forms of crime fiction, but is actually how many gangs and groups of criminals operate irl. You tend to form bonds with those you take risks with, it's just human nature.

I gotta give them props for improving their open worlds in rdr2. Most buildings are enterable and a lot of them have interesting stuff going on. Shame that the traveling between missions got a million times more tedious.
I won't say "most" what you can enter is impressive but it mostly consists of shacks, storefronts, homesteads of course it's easier on developers to make accessible meanwhile actual enterable buildings like the one in ST Denis are utterly wasted.

I used to think that I would love to have every building be open to me in a gta game, but then I really thought about it. What would be the point of this? Just to be immersed a little bit more? I think Rockstar did well with the buildings that you can explore in their most recent game, but to ask for more would be incredibly short sighted.

Besides its only one difficulty which i must assume is moderate cuz the auto aim should be accessible for like harder difficulties. The saving grace is the narrative, characters, and performances. My fav missions are the ones that feel the same but are impacted more cuz of the events of the story. 7/10

When I pick on Rockstar, it is because of the obnoxious online mode that has become an advertisement for shark cards.
Honestly, the complete brazen hated for shark cards seems a little much... I have 10m earned with friends and joining random people's setups. There's a lot to spend that on, but a lot of it is rather pointless crap. There's a sense of accomplishment when you earn it, shark cards are the easy way around but they don't give you any sense of accomplishment. If they just gave you the everything and the kitchen sink, it would be boring. You'd play for like a few hours, get bored, then leave and never come back... Would you rather get a friend to quickly do doomsday act 1 and 3 earning fast money, or would you rather have 50m, buy whatever you want until that gets boring? I feel all you really need is like 10m for all the fun stuff, rest is extra.

The first two Max Payne games had deep, compelling, distinct, morally-ambiguous characters, as befits a noir tribute. Max Payne 3 had nearly-identical shallow jerks that are probably supposed to satirize corporate culture. But since the series had never been about corporate culture (in either of the Remedy games OR 3, for that matter), they're just... there, being unlikable assholes.

I feel like the dialogue in cars is a thing precisely because Rockstar is aware that there are long stretches of their game where you are just going from Point A to Point B and need something to make it less boring, but honestly, it only makes all the times you're just in the car driving stick out harder in your brain.
It gets worse when your favourite song is playing on the radio but you can't hear it because the characters too busy talking about nothing. In the GTA trilogy, car dialogue wasn't much of an issue because characters didn't talk for an absurd length of time and (for the most part) they only spoke when they had something meaningful to say or it played into the story well. Also, the amount of missions that required characters to be in the same vehicle were drastically lower than IV and V.
They should do it like my real life, where there's awkward silence in the car accompanied by uncontrollable flatulence.

I've used the tools that do this. Now your boi Ruku meets somewhere in the middle, cheating his way to riches without greifing people afterwards. In fact, through those Riches I met a couple of guys that, like me, enjoy flying the in-game Jets. I was the only person that didn't crash. Then again, I was using a Jumpjet to simplify Landings. Then again, all those crashes happened mid-flight so a Jumpjet shouldn't make a difference.

You probably weren’t around when GTA Online first came out but their “cheater lobbies” were insane. Idk if they still have them, but it was actually TOO anti-cheat. You’d get sent to their cheater lobbies just for blowing up a few players cars; eventually they fixed it... but those lobbies were fun af
Gta is not p2w honestly, and everything is accessible to the player without having to drop a dime... You just have to put time into it just like any other MMO. Put your money towards the right things, and you can earn 2m to buy almost anything within a few hours.
If rockstar allowed you to do everything or whatever you want with whatever you want, the online would be as dead as gta 4 online was.
I liked the small talk in GTA five during the missions where you drive long stretches. It adds some depth and backstory to the characters and they can throw some cheeky banter too.

GTA V may have had thr bigger map, But gta sa had the better map. I actually wanted to explore because its like they realized that states wont have just 1 city in them.
It's interesting that even in SA it seems like they spent a lot more time on Los Santos than any other part, but it still feels bigger to me because the urban areas are spaced out much more evenly. LS, SF and LV are placed in different corners of the map, which means you'll be touring the countryside a lot and likely stumble upon something new. In V practically everything interesting takes place in LS, which only makes up the lowest third of the map. Now I'm just thinking out loud, but if Rockstar had placed LS in the center of the map and have the countryside surround it, I think it would've felt way less empty. Alternatively, making the town on the north edge of the map bigger and putting more missions there would ensure players actually have a reason to drive around much more, and probably end up exploring more too.

tbh personally, i like the dialogues and conversations the characters have when you’re driving or riding a horse, it helps me feel more connected to the character bc they go in depth with their personality and who they are. but thats just me tho, but still good point burkey

I think your most valid point is about how so many locations go unutilized by the campaign. You would think gambling minigames or a casino heist ala San Andreas are great opportunities to flesh out the world more.
My only guess is that Rockstar at some point did intend to use those locations, possibly in DLC single player stories. Then GTA Online started gaining so much traction that they revised their plans and shifted their efforts on maintaining and growing GTA Online.
Rockstar (and Take Two as well) should be picked on because they helped push the microtransaction wave that has seeped its way into almost every game

The writing quality in the cutscenes versus the driving parts in GTA 5 was so different that I became convinced that they were written by completely different teams
I wish there was a way to block phone calls in GTA Online. Getting 3-4 calls EVERY time you log in, to hear the same things, is already annoying, but the fact that it will basically prevent you from doing ANYTHING as soon as the phone pops up takes the cake. Even if you're being shot at and are trying to fight back, the game will not allow you to shoot until you pick up that phone.
And it happens at random, too, to make it extra fun.

The more leaned back old school GTA in general is more my jam; talking in cars to and from mission, slowly dwelling into chaos through peaceful missions escalating the story towards the action, longer cutscenes exploring the characters backstory, that kinda thing.
Probably the main reason I’d favor GTA IV over V. Modern games are too fast a pace for my taste.

This video is old, but I need to say this:
You *need* those boring missions for pacing. If every mission was an exhilarating thrill ride it would drain the player out too quickly. By having those missions in the game it makes the more exciting missions stand out because they become more impactful and memorable as a result.
Besides, it’s not like those missions don’t contribute something to the overall narrative. The whole point of that truck mission was to show how different Franklin is from his childhood friends who all became crackheads and drug addicts, while he’s trying his best to escape that life and make something of himself. The dialogue isn’t there just for the sake of it, it’s there to add depth and flesh out the characters. It’s a really natural way to peek inside the minds of these guys, just like real life.
Be honest, how many times have you ever been in a car with someone else and you *didnt* say something to one another for the duration of the trip, even if it was some of the most dumbest shit imaginable?
So while I don’t agree with your arguments about the car conversations or the boring missions, you pretty much nailed it with the rest of the video.
I don't think that boring missions necessarily contribute to a better pacing compared to the fun missions. I think that pacing is developed through fun moments that hype the player to keep playing and stale moments that level down the gameplay, and gta has always have plenty of that. The driving sections of the game could be shorter but I agree that they can be essential or simply enjoyable if the quirks of the characters are utilized correctly. But as I say, they need to be shorter or simply more interesting like in god of war. The conversations between Kratos and Atreus reflect how you can balance boring gameplay with an actual content that feels interesting to the player. I'm just saying that gta 6 should try to improve the gta formula to a modern audience that has expirienced an evolution in the open world type games.
So basically your argument is that the game needs to be boring so that 10% of it can be fun...

I’m not saying make every mission “boring” I’m saying that the missions which are slower than the rest are necessary for the overall pacing and development of the plot and story and help contribute to making those exciting missions more powerful. They help with buildup and suspense.
For example: if you took away all the preparation missions for all the heists in GTA V the actual heists themselves would feel less satisfying and grandiose as a result because you didn’t lay the groundwork for getting those heists completed in the first place.

I thought this too, but you can easily make a million every 3 hours fairly passively. even while you piss around in free mode, there are high paying CEO missions and challenges, double RP / $ helps too when thats a good week.

There's a lot more you could have criticized- like how a majority of the online content isn't even made available in singleplayer without mods, the idea of singleplayer dlc was thrown out in favor of focusing on their bordering-on-abuse shark cards with a stranglehold on cash players can make in GTA Online so they're more inclined to pay up, they ditched the proper friendly freeroam that red dead redemption had and gave the poor substitute of whatever that passive mode was supposed to accomplish (it actually just removes you from having any fun safely, kudos for that fuckup Rockstar, can't even defend yourself from cops if you get in trouble, RDR had it right ffs) and the world itself is even more hollow than you said. It's a big ol' diorama that looks great on the surface but below that, you can't even enter restaurants and the number of miscellaneous buildings you can enter is terribly low. And missions that open up interiors only do it for that mission, then the building closes back up as if you didn't easily get inside before. Even in Vice City you could enter a mall, you could enter a police station, you could go inside one of the houses the first island, find a scarface easter egg and a free chainsaw.
Exploration for the sake of exploration has been thrown out, and rockstar have given into a "bigger is better" ideology which is... Well it's just wrong.
Older GTA games let you go in many buildings,
GTA V doesn't.
Older Elder Scrolls games gave you so much freedom you could invent your own spells, or equip different gloves to each individual hand or pauldrons to each shoulder.
Skyrim has none of that. (not to mention flying, mark and recall, permanent summon enchantments, etc)
I think becoming a mainstream highly profitable industry was the worst thing to happen to gaming. Games are shinier but lack substance.
I don't understand why games won't continue to build on their foundations, why good ideas aren't carried over into the sequels while graphics and game-play are improved at the same time.

The Elder Scrolls spellcrafting was pretty much a balancing nightmare as far as I remember. As for the gloves part, I think you're going past Morrowind for that. Fine, but I think that's a bit of a stretch when you remember the matter of certain armours missing "parts" of the set, leading to console modding them back in.

Dest Raw Stop acting as if there aren't any good games anymore. Some new games might lack substance but there are plenty of others that don't. And plenty more will come out in the future which actually do provide the kind of experience we want. I can't believe you didn't talk about shark cards. The entirety of GTA online is designed to make you want to pay for in game currency. It's such a chore to accomplish everything in the game from loading into a server to loading into a match and then loading back into the world etc. And then you have to actually do well to actually make any money. Plus there's plenty of ways to make money in the open world, but you'll almpost always get fucked with by other players. The price of apartments, cars, and basically everything is ridiculous for the amount of time required to make enough money to pay for anything. The entire point of GTA is to get tons of money, but you can literally skip the entire game if you pay microtransactions. And they aren't even worth it either because you have to pay like $100 dollars to get one of the new cars.... or just play the game for 200 hours.
Mod the game then or get someone to do it for you. It's a game not a job. I'm sick of people disregarding it and making essays instead complaining.

Well, even if you have businesses, they're only usable in free-for-all lobbies, meaning: One tries to drive the below-average streetcar to a destination while being followed by someone in an attack chopper, a bomber, a fighter jet and either a normal tank or the new sci-fi tank which is as good as the normal tank without upgrades. But of course one can spend several millions of dollars on upgrades for that tank to become even more OP.
Also: if a game needs to be modified by third parties in order to be fun, fair, etc., it sure is a point worth criticising.

The car dialog in GTA IV seemed way more dynamic.. if you'd heard the conversation on the way to a mission but then failed and had to restart, that same conversation wouldn't happen, it was very naturally cut short. They seemed to forget this in GTAV, taking the design BACKWARDS
But in the 3rd attempt, they would repeat the 1st dialogue chain.

I think it's the difference between Rockstar making games going "what would the player have the most fun with?" and instead going "we're going to force the player to have fun with this." For example, no, Nintendo doens't make "cool" games like Rockstar, but damn are most of them really FUN to play. They're just so damned enjoyable. Playing through a GTA game at times feels like "I have to get through this" instead of "I WANT to get through this." Another example is that when I play Skyrim or BoTW, when I'm out of the game, I'm THINING about the game: "hmmm...I've got to remember to check out that one thing or go to that one place or make sure to get those items." When I play a GTA game, it's like I forget about the game after I've stopped playing.

The game came out in 2004. Of course the mechanics of the game are going to be quite clunky especially in a really really big game at the time. I do agree with u though, the shooting mechanics was ass.
