@@MelodeeMorita Please do! I help poor kids in Brazil to learn English and I am trying to teach some Japanese. I am not fluent in Japanese, but I am learning, little by little on my own, but I do want to help people go after their dreams, Japanese is in my dreams and some kids her ein our town, so I encourage them and I motivate them...if you ever make some videos teaching Japanese, that will inspire me big time!

I am half-Japanese due to my mother's side, and I was born in the United States. I grew up having American friends, and my mother never spoke to me in Japanese at home. It just felt so awkward. I have a little brother too, and he absolutely hates it when I try to talk to him in Japanese. My mother tried to teach me Japanese, but I refused when I was little. I was embarrassed. I actually was ashamed in elementary school that my mother made bento lunches because all of my friends made fun of me for it. I go to Japan every other year to live with my grandparents for the summer. However, I am not fluent at all. I forgot a lot of my Japanese. Also, learning with family members can be a little difficult because you don't learn formal Japanese as much. I'm trying to learn it all back again through school, but I wish I could learn more. You're my inspiration to keep continuing. ❤️

I'm like you except my situation is opposite. My parents are from America, but I was born and raised in Japan.
I speak both Japanese and English.
I find that the older I get and the less time I spend with my parents, my English is getting worse. I constantly find my self forgetting English words and having to use a Japanese to English dictionary.. Lol

Thank you so much for this video. Very inspirational. I'm learning Korean and sometimes I get really discouraged with how limited my vocabulary is in miscellaneous situations, even if I diligently study. thank you so much for this video. I could've learn the language a long time ago but because I thought it was super difficult and had no one to talk to about it, I never really start. but yea, I thought I was the only one who always watch the same dramas over and over again, but then it does help with memorization. I even say the lines a second before the character does, too. I always watch 1 litre of tears(movie and drama ver.) whenever I feel down because it motivates me not to give up. then again, I'm learning the language at the same time.
I love Yuzu. I listen to Japanese music all the time but I think never really look into the translation because of the laziness haha.

Hey Melodee:) this video was super helpful! I'm half japanese half spanish and even though I went to 補習校, I do struggle sometimes with my japanese learning process, and I feel that my brain is not big enough to learn and memorise all the kanjis... My speaking is fine. But my reading and my writing omg.... Love your videos!!

This is so great Melodee !
For me too - My mum is french and I mostly cooperated speaking in it since I was little, but my mum said it's hard because when children hear their friends speak in English and go to an English speaking school I guess they feel embarrassed and don't want to speak in their second language..or it's too much effort. And it's also difficult because I have never studied it ! But I'm so grateful that my mum persevered with me because speaking 2 languages helps me to learn more languages more easily ! People have this huge expectation like you said, and we feel pressured to speak fluently. I think I'm maybe 99% fluent in the whole language, because I speak all the time in french with my mum and my french family :) sorry this is long it's jut great to talk about it and watch your amazing video that I'm sure is helping lots of people ! Thank you so so much, we love you ! ❤

Thank you so much Melodee for sharing your Japanese learning experiences with us! You're Japanese sounds so beautiful and perfect that it's hard to believe that you learned it later in life as a second language! It's a pity that girl laughed at you for not knowing the word for intestine instead of realising and appreciating the amount of time and effort you were taking to just help her. How long did it take you to reach such a high level of fluency?

I'm really happy you made this video! I'm half-French, and it's exactly the same situation for me. :( I lived in England since birth, and my papa was a chef so I hardly saw him, so my French has always been limited. I speak Japanese now (lol) and will be picking up French again soon! It's so nice to have someone to relate to

This video had some really great ideas. I've gotten into some Japanese music and would love to know what some of these songs I enjoy so much mean. Thank you for the ideas and sharing your experiences, Melodee :)

I really love this video, and I'm so glad I gave it a chance and clicked on it. I'm new, and I've always assumed that you grew up in Japan and learned English so I was surprised when it was the other way around. I grew up in Canada but my roots are in Korea, and I have the same problem, having to relearn the Korean language. This really motivates me to go back and study the grammar and actually converse with others. Thank you, and I hope you're doing well ^ ^~

I was taking Japanese classes in Ft Lee, but had to stop b/c of school. I still have my workbooks, so when I have time I try to do a little bit. My friend grew up with Spanish in her house, but like you, she and her siblings respond in English. I wish I had grown up in bilingual household...

You are awesome person. You made me brave to speak English again. Coz my psychology was same condition as you were. I'm from Japan.I'm so greatful for your story. People need sharing "trying&error" stories recently to get success. am expecting you keep doing it.Respect.

Oh my gosh! I went through a similar experience in elementary school! I stopped going to Japanese school in like 2nd grade because of the commute struggles. And then in 5th grade someone from Japan moved to my area and was in the same class as me. I had to be a translator, and because of my limited knowledge of Japanese, it was a huge struggle! But after that, I really wanted to learn more and more Japanese so my speech is pretty fluent now! I think these tips will help me / motivate me to learn more Kanji! Thanks for uploading the video!!
