A lovely video Mark, and like you said just being with nature in all it's seasons and moods is what angling is all about, but on the negative side you reminded me just how cold living aboard a boat in winter is going to me.
thanks Andrew, I think we are lucky to be out fishing and able to witness the changing of the landscape and wildlife throughout the seasons, almost like a living tapestry, I should imagine it will be rather cold for you on-board a boat in winter however that freezing fog was truly biting and rather bitter during this particular fishing trip.
Don`t know how I`ve missed this video, looks like I`m gonna have to go back through all your escapades and see what I`ve neglected to watch.I love winter time on the bank, especially flowing water.......piking or chubbing or even trotting a float with a pin reel. Dress accordingly and take a flask of piping hot oxtail soup and the cold won`t bother you attall.Excellent video mark.
Hey Nick, thanks, I do have a reasonable back catalogue of videos to easy to miss them. I like winter time quite a bit as well as Autumn, good times to be next to flowing water (is there ever a bad time) . Oxtail soup! Must admit I have not had that in ages, dad used to make that and corned beef sarnies during our winter trips, good memories.
Yes a lot of the smaller rivers and brooks are rarely mentioned by the angling media which is a pity, the Nene is a brilliant river as you say and has produced some beautiful fish. I hope you enjoy the videos and I'm glad you appreciate the smaller lesser known waters.
Thank you Philip, I do agree with you,it's not all about catching, just being there is what's special. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for stopping by to post a comment,it's most appreciated.
Thanks!Nice to hear that you enjoyed it, the Blackwater in Essex is a different river if I'm not mistaken, this one is in Hampshire. The rod is a twin tip Hyperactive.
Cheers Mick! I managed to pick up a second hand Sony action camera, still need to get used to it some what though, with relation to my head and the angles when moving and shooting. Really glad you liked, I was over the moon with the 5+ Chub from here too!
Another great video mark, most enjoyable. Totally agree with your comment about other rivers getting the headlines etc....... I`m a river Nene man and the old girl rarely gets a mention, even though it`s stuffed with quality fish. Started to work through your vids, keep them coming !!!!
Hello mate, for swims and location, I would try and target areas where there is some cover or debris present, swims where bits of wood have perhaps collected creating rafts,or old weed beds. Areas that chub particularly like to sit under, also areas where the river bank is undercut, and slacks just off the main current, these are the areas most likely to produce. Bait wise keep it simple, maggots, cheese paste,breadflake/punch. With liquidized bread in the feeder. Hope that helps!
Thank you Dan, that is much appreciated mate, glad you enjoyed it thanks again mate, I look forward to seeing that lovely Sturgeon you caught on video soon!
Great vid. Just watched a few of your others too. I fish thebsame river up near Northcamp. Iv3e not ever seen anyone else as far up as i fish but Ive had pike perch and chub regularly.
Thanks Simon, The eyes were freezing over more or less from the beginning, but it was a real nice day to wet a line, cold but settled, which made a change from recent weather, I think you might agree mate, thanks for the kind comment, I have been enjoying your videos a lot, especially the last trip you had with those Pike from the flooded river.
Brilliant Mark just like watching a proper fishing show!! looks like youve been investing in some new camera equipment?? thoroughly enjoyed watching it and chuffed to bits when you got the 5lb chub you where searching for.....looking forward to your next production :-D
nice video mark well your not a fair whether angler it looked bitter cold .//mark you doing any videos on rivers around the country //like the trent river avon in warks or the wye there are camp sites along these rivers that are very good and cracking fishing too.// and give a guide to ware to fish i think you would be very good at it as you have an honest way about you ./any way keep the videos coming i enjoy watching them . as i have little time to go at the moment cheers mark tight lines .//
Why thank you Stephen, it was brass monkeys with freezing fog setting in as I was about to pack up, the kind of cold where you get back to the car and the heater makes your hands hurt even more as you defrost. Thanks for the idea, I have actually fished the Warks Avon three times, but not yet filmed despite my father and I having good trips, something I need to address. I have filmed on the River Severn this season (video is on my channel) and that was during our family vacation, I must admit your idea is a good one and may well see me/us doing that more frequently. It's also nice to hear that you enjoy the videos, I love creating them and to know they are indeed appreciated is humbling and rather special in itself.
the angling version of bradshaws rail guide .//you may become famous mark./ ware to fish uk.//by mark erdwin ,..i think there is something there you know .mark if you do become famous don/t forget the who gave you the idea ,//a signed copy .of your first book tight lines mark . steve .//
hello great vid, i am doing a video this weekend trying to catch my first chub, on a river very similar to the Blackwater , any tips on how to catch my first chub?
What a wonderful video. I loved watching the tip as if I was fishing myself!
Thank you so much :)
Very true Philip, catching a fish is a bonus, but a beautiful day and wildlife makes it very special on its own.

Thanks for all the advice mate, we manged post a video of us both catching our first small chub each.
Thanks, Charlie
Love the video mark nice to see actual bite detection instead of just seeing the fish being landed and then released
Thank you Peter, I agree it is much nicer to see the total journey as such and transition from bite to fight to netting.
Cheers Fred, both Chub were in scale perfect condition.
Cheers Carl, that is very nice to hear especially coming from yourself, thank you mate.
Cheers Mick!

Cheers mate, ah yes north camp I know where you mean too, to be fair the river is quite overlooked in its own way, not that that is a bad thing!
Thanks Simon,
