- Here's a look at my current home. I've moved over 85 times now in my life. A true nomad. Feel free to join me as I post from the streets/woods and try to figure out life.
This is my first winter at this shelter. I’ve been here every year, for months a year since finding it 3 1/2 years ago. This winter I couldn’t find anywhere else to go, so I’m getting ready.

Yep , I’m a veteran and spent nearly 7 years homeless.
The city got too dangerous so I scoped out some woods that were safer
Made a camp , had solar fairy lights , slept through blizzards but was never cold.
Only disturbed by deer and owls and slept peacefully .
I still spend as much time as I can out in the wild , life is easier.
Jay, you're right. I'm amazed at some of these pioneering people. Pitch a tent; fortify it. Live free. Meanwhile, other people pay $5K/year property taxes. Why? As far as I'm concerned, we should be allowed to homestead, buy land and be left alone.

Bin there from card board boxes under a bridge to an old van buried in snow.
Wasn't so bad. Actually I lived quite well. Dumpster Newburg with a selection
of vittles from Aspen's finest restaurants. access to likker in sundry locations,
& on any given morning you might find money & just about anything else in
the gutter. I could always find good gloves in the area lot.
There be one laying in the lot & the mate would be 100 yards down the road.
I ate like a king. Did you know Gary Cooper was also homeless in Aspen too.
Did you happen to have a run in with some hostile Sheriffs in a small town?

This happening all over world. I been living in my van for 12 years. I am 67 years old and I don't drink, gamble, smoke and never been on drugs. I been doing all alone. But it's getting harder because everything is high. I am fighting this but I am tried. I just told God I don't want to give up but I am feeling it now. I have no family or friends. God Bless

I've received an eviction notice because I refused to renew the lease as they were asking for a 50% increase in rent and I like being able to eat. Looking for a new place but not having any luck. I fear I will be homeless too soon and I don't own a vehicle. The streets are not a safe place for a 56 year old trans woman so I don't know what will happen to me.

Took my gf and I 4 years to actually find a place in NY we can afford. Don't give up old top, good times will come. You just need to be here to see them
I got out of prison after 17 years and found myself homeless. I built a small camp miles from the nearest house, just off a seasonal road in upstate NY. That was just too far to go anywhere to get groceries or whatever, so I moved up on a big hill about a mile from any roads. I started all this in April and finally got a place to stay around the beginning of Oct. That's the 2nd time in my life that I was camping way out away from everything for 6 months at a time. I was never discovered by anyone either time. I loved it. Pure freedom!!!
I suppose in comparison to prison, that level of freedom must have felt like heaven. I was in county jail for 2 measly weeks in 08 for some bullshit I had nothing to do with and even to this day I appreciate the little things in life so much more. A cup of coffee, a cigarette, driving when and where I want. Stuff like that. 2 weeks of that shit was 2 weeks too much. I was found not guilty thank god..... ok I'm done blabbing. Lol

I'm about to go off civilization for 6 months all I need is 2 250L metal drums to put food .
High Kal foods ( oats,pasta,peanut butter,wey protein,beans, cheackpeas,tuna, honey ,coffee,sugar,salt, ramen noodles,those magic cube things to give food a little taste.
I need 2000 calories a day 120g protein to keep my muscle mass in check.
Take a tarp build a shelter chop some wood go fishing,train my bow and arrow skills read some books enjoy life absorb culture and be a more intellectual person.
Besides a man is only a man wen he can build his home make 🔥 fire and get his one food 🐟.
Life is supposed to be an adventure not a prison with no walls.
I'm dying slowly by living in this society of vanity lust and PC culture .

its 2023 and homeless people have their own youtube channel... amazing times! I really appreciate the work you are doing (no pun intended). For those who think that was a joke - yes there are people who work and still are homeless.
Money transactions are going digital and people wont have or drop money on the ground so I got to learn the swipe card reader.

There's people living in parts of Africa in mud huts bamboo leaves huts are they homeless people living in caves in Afghanistan are they homeless people living in teepees in parts of Siberia Russia where it's very cold are they homeless but you are considered homeless if you live in a tent or car in America the difference between us and them is that they hunt for their food we wasn't put on mother earth to pay bills every 30 days
There's a Chinese proverbs which says sky is my roof earth is my bed if animals could talk would a bird or deer say that they are homeless
Get a gym membership and a storage unit for $10 a month and you are good to go and learn from other people

I was homeless for 2 years in NW Ohio for a little over 2 years . I went to a yearly tax land sale and picked up a property for a dollar and made a shack on it out of other people's trash and free thing they put on the curb . I appreciate what you have going on
Hey Bud!! I'm in Pa. , retired and semi handicapped. I've used my experience in construction and insulation to draw up plans for a cabin built with the same techniques as larger Earth Ships! I figure a 40x40 cabin devided into 4 equal rooms 20x20 is more than enough room for doggo n I to live our lives out! If your familiar with earth ships they use old tires in the foundation and telephone poles and other reporposed materials!
Now...my big problem is a piece of land I can build on with out them bugging over building codes!? How's things where your at?

You mentioned having nothing to do...and there's that slippery slope I'm familiar with! It leads to depression...in the wild I'd think depression could be deadly!!

Last time I was homeless, I started with plastic sheet, hot pocket system, breathe keeps it warm. Found a 4 layer cardboard box big enough to sleep in. Bought olive oil with food stamps for candle warmth. Found a spot people left me alone. Met man in a church, he needed house sitter, offered me a couch in his home. Living in his basement for 5 years, working part time, saving money, bought my first home cash in 2018. Cleaned up inside, moved in January 1st, 2019, been here three years. You sound like a good person, I wish you peace and good luck, subscribed, and will watch future videos.....peace...

You know what the value of the dollar is because you had to save every single penny that you earned and then you bought a house and then clean it up and fix it whenever it needed so I know you can appreciate your labor intensive efforts that paid off always believe in yourself
Hello Rob, digout a cabin under ground there are ways to do it. Charred wood, termites and ground bugs won't eat that wood at all, and it can just be partially burnt as well.

Being homeless myself,I find your videos inspirational.Its horrible having no more family.
Even when we have family, they often don’t wanna have us! Especially when we’re in need.. we become a burden! Something tells me God will allow all of us to learn some harsh lessons in the years to come! Lord have mercy 🙏☦️
My biggest fear in life is not dying or anything befalling myself, but seeing the loved ones i have vanish in one way or another. I feel you friend.

I was living rough in my car, the car was stolen and i was destitute, it was a hard road i embarked on and i was totally lost.
Today, i own a house, run my own tourism business and wake up every day grateful.

I am about to be truly homeless after working for 20 years, no chance of stopping it. No vehicle to sleep in, no camping equipment. I'm not a nomad like you and I'm kind of scared. Never lived in the lap of luxury, but at least I had warmth and a little security. Now I will have nothing. Been poor my entire life, but always thought as long as I worked hard, I would never be homeless. Imagine my suprise...

My friend had a hut in the woods. He left cake in it. I was there when he returned remembering the chocolate waiting for him. He opened the door and there was a racoon with his face covered in chocolate frosting! It just stood there a moment looking so shocked and guilty, then ran out. My friend was heartbroken and chased the racoon out calling him an a hole and yelling at him "stay out of my stuff"! I was laughing so hard at this scene. It definitely would have made a great children's book. Yes you gotta watch out for the pesky sneaky animals around. You know they clock you. Ha ha ha nice shelter

My buddy left the army... He has a home, he's married, he didnt cope well in civilian life.
He now lives in a van or tent, his missus just carries on like when he was in the army. He visits her ever few months etc.
His civilian life job means he can work from almost anywhere so being a nomad works well for him.
I was homeless for 8 1/2 months and lived in the woods. My military training and outdoor experience and most importantly, God took care of me.

I so completely understand where you are... I spent over 10 years in my 20 ft. Tipi, raising my youngest boy. He is now in his 30`s. He loved it!!! So did I. I am wanting to find a place I can start a survivalist camp/compound. Where folks can come and feel safe and build their own little niche. Helping each other if need be. I know... I`m dreaming.

Yo I love u guys for being adventurous. I lost everything because I been physically Illl for 2ys. I'm fighting for my life. I worked for over 20yrs and now I'm getting taken out. Thank God I have a roof over my head because I can't get out of bed. I got all my outdated camping stuff and I dream of being in the outdoors. Keep doing it guys. Please!!!
Sorry man, hang in there! I know a man who was diagnosed with untreatable stage 4 lung cancer, over 5 years ago! I’d hang out with him and walk all over the city every day. He just never quit! He went to the doctor last year and the cancer was going away on its own! He’s beating it with his will to live! Thank you for watching!

I started to fix my nutrient deficiencies and started to improve
I lived in the Allegheny National Forest for 9 months just because i wanted a break from society, but this was before i purchased 20 acres in the middle of the chihuahuan desert 60 miles east of el paso texas. I love the solitude
I am going to be leaving soon. Walking from NY to Florida. I'm getting a better camera and going to document the trip! Stay tuned!

very impressed with your shelter. The best thing is you keep it and the area clean. Don't see the mess I usually see from camps like this. Bravo and congrats. Great camp, if I were not married I'd live in the same way, i just can't convince my wife to live like that. I would suggest if you want to keep hidden, although it seems your doing well, don't use the same trails all the time. making them too assessable will lead others right to camp.
Thank you! Yeah the trails are a lot of the reason I decided to leave. It’s fine with no snow. I take the trash to town often. I messed up once and left a garbage bag behind, and it took weeks to find it all. Was shredded and everywhere.

If you’re homeless I’d always say it was safer head in to forrest’s and live off grid in there like you and many other vets have done. Staying in the city sleeping in doorways is a recipe for disaster,what with theft, and other dangers from being in proximity with others. You have definitely made a better situation for yourself. It’s a nice tidy camp man ! Nice work. 👍
I'm not homeless so I have little concept of what it's like but I admire the lifestyle, I feel sad for people who end up homeless and people with houses would attack those on the streets, would put cigarette burns in their tent, kick and spit on them, make them feel like nothing! Turns my stomach that those people who have nothing are suffering because of idiots. When my husband and I were younger, we were almost homeless - we moved from couch to couch- and I remember feeling like no one cared about me- that I was vulnerable and alone- separate from society - and that was with a literal roof over my head, so sitting in the rain, cold with nothing, I can't imagine but you have made a home for yourself and it obviously works for you. Nice little setup, myself I lived in a tent in some woods on the outskirts of Amsterdam, Netherlands for a few months too but it was just a place to sleep as I cycled into the city every morning where I had a kinda job at a homeless cafe/drop in centre, and got by okay on just 5 dollars a day (equivalent in Euros), and was able to shower and get my clothes washed there, or get fresh clothes from their thrift store next door. Technically I was homeless after that for a couple of years too but upgraded my accomodation, I lived in a tiny caravan on a squatted drydock in the same area, so although I didn't have electricity etc. I could get water from taps on the site, and I heated and cooked using a trick a guy who'd lived in an RV in Canada showed me, an empty can with vents cut in it, half filled with sand, into which I poured methylated spirits (denatured alcohol) and lit it, it works very well as a stove and heater. I had a battery radio for entertainment and got by fine, I smoked rolling tobacco and ''dropleaf'' from the weed cafe which is very cheap. From the comments I can see there are a lot of sceptical people who haven't got a clue, asking how come you're able to film this on a camera phone, like I said they have no idea how it works and how when you're homeless you're able to access some services like a place to charge your phone, one way or another. Anyway all the best bro and thanks for the upload, I'm going to check out some of your other content.
PS. I'm no longer homeless and now live in London UK but still I like to go out into the woods and stealth camp, this time with good army surplus kit like a tarp and bivvy bag, amazing how I can camp and cook within a few feet of a path and nobody knows I'm there!
I was homeless for 3 years because of circumstances that we're out of my control. I can say this though, I learned alot by having to provide for myself on a day to day basis without begging for change.

If I were you, I would use another tarp with camo pattern or green in color and put some dirt and mud on top of it, so it cannot be easily seen by others ...

Let that tarp get aged and blended in
Use some camo paint, then after a few year's put another one UNDER it.
i hv a spot setup like this since 06, that top tarp is so blended & faded in that its really hard 2 C,, even up close, but my top tarp is a camo one, occasionally brush in some earth tones and automotive undercoating and throw sum leaves etc on it while its still wet, darn near invisible

We just pick our own hardships and look for the good in it .

@@The-GreenHornetHope you enjoy your holiday when you come over, our immigration laws are hard on legitimate people looking for a better life but our politicians let in the riff raff from persecuted countries that bring their troubles with them and won't assimilate into our society, the good ones that want to move here get pushed back to the end of the line and are made to jump through beucractic bullshit.
I was homeless for three years. I met a lot of good people, learned a lot of valuable skills, and life lessons. Godspeed to you brother!

I'm still working 6 days a week and have 6 months to go, then I can retire and hope to start leading a nomadic life while I physically still can. Retirement in The Netherlands is probably better than in many other countries, but with the price of stuff here it will be poverty, so I am now preparing by getting stuff to camp with and looking forward to it! The most simplest time of my life was when all I needed was Food , Water and Shelter!! 6 months in the forest was so healing!! Thanks for sharing your adventures!! I truly miss this lifestyle and will probably be there again when I am done caring for my mom.

Wonderful man - it's so touching with how much pride and love you talk about your home and show us all how little is actually enough to make a person happy. You are a wonderful example of how a person who wants to remain free and unsullied by the horrors of civilization can succeed and feel free - literally like the birds that sing to you or the raccoons that visit you. I have seen these times coming from quite a ways back. By my calculations, we could end up w/a third to nearly HALF if our population living this way by the end of the next 20 yrs. The math & the inflation just don't sync up. I posted several.yrs ago abt how our work force woukd essentially be competing w/developing countries, that our Corp. businesses would continue to put profit before people, & that in order to successfully compete w/poor nations we would have to see our strd of living drop to at least THEIRS. Think of where that will put all.if us "avg" workers. We're seeing the results already. The main thing that will help the numbers line up is the amt of experienced workers who will.need to.pass away that currently hold unspent currency &/or property. We're witnessing the beginning of that effect rt now, too.
When I was a child, I had a comfortable middle class home & family. That's gone now; but back then I lived in our nearby woods as much as I could. After seeing this, a lot of those lessons I learned then began coming back to me. Thanks for the refreshment course!
Looks like a tranquil location
I got information about a cannabis grow . So I put on a day pack and walked into the national forest . This was back when cannabis was “bad”.
Around noon I smelled wood smoke and Indian in and came up on a camp.
Now I had ran into booby traps and armed folks before so I was careful. I carried a shotgun.
I located the guy with a little fire and he was frying fish in an iron skillet.
I called out to the camp as I stepped out of the weeds.
I knew the guy! I had put him in juvi for selling meth sometime back.
He smiled and waved . He called me by name.
I came in and we shook hands. I could see he had been camped for a while. He invited me to eat with him so I gave him what I had in my pack for lunch and ate fish with him.
Anyway I told him what I was there for and he laughed. “Naw my dad comes out, I meet him on that old logging road back there. He brings me supplies.”
I nodded. He was making trips in so the folks seeing him reported a cannabis grow.
“What are you doing out here?”
“Not using meth..” he laughed. I hunt and fish a bit and every now and again dad will drop off someone who needs to get away for a while

He had been out for a year . Anyway he walked me around until evening and even found me a quicker way back to my vehicle.
I had forty dollars in my pocket and gave it to him.
Anyway… he ended up coming out of the woods and working with his dad on a 60 acre farm. He done a little body work on the side.
He married a woman out of a church of Christ church and built a little house for them .
His dad died and he took over the farm and cared for his mother.
Anyway I am approaching seventy now. And he is in his high fifties.
He has a grown boy who drives a truck and a girl who took out my catheter after surgery . She saw my name and said, “dad owes you forty dollars.”
Time in the weeds is good for you if you let it be.. sometimes we don’t run away from problems.. we run to solutions..

4:45 ... Brother that's so damn impressive ! I was homeless for a bit under 2 years. I used all the money I had from selling my car and ended up hiking the Appalachian Trail. After that I camped in the woods . Never had a problem and never saw anyone at my camp . Enjoy your videos immensely !
I lived in a barn on a mountain in Western North Carolina for nine years. Homeless, but did handyman work in town. And the owner of the barn let me stay there. Just me, my dog, and a wood stove for nine winters.
I called it “semi-retirement”.
My retirement plan has always been just a tent and a fishing pole.
Hi Rob, I'm so sorry that you are homeless, I watch a lot of camping videos and these people are doing it for fun. This isn't fun if you have to live like this everyday homelessness is a growing serious problem not to mention the dangers that come with it. I pray that God helps you find a warm safe home 😢
The majority of homeless people choose to be homeless and remain that way. This type of homelessness is fine cause he's not a bother to society unlike the ones in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Nice i like the set up its secluded enough...keep on keepin on...it doesn't matter how long it takes to get there just as long as you never stop ;)
My advice is to make a rocket stove. I made one now, when ever we hit the road we can always stop to cook, make coffee and refresh hot water bottles. Smoke is an issue what ever you do, but with a stove as small as this your only using small amounts of fuel. You will find how to make one, thru a video on TH-cam . Also check out solar panels for charging car/ leisure batteries.... with you tube everything is at your finger tips

Did this for 7 months in Denver. Out of sight, out of mind. Stay clean and be prepared to kill if someone comes in the night.
I'd string trip wire up and set up branches around my camp....I'd hear anything coming
@@mickives8769 Yup, it can be pretty scary often times you hear rustling outside your tent and it turns out to be just a fox or a cat or something.
Luckily I’m in a good area where people know me. All I really have to worry about is animals. Coyotes, raccoons, squirrels, etc. They catch you off guard though lol. I’ll jump up ready to go and it’s just a bird rustling around…

I was homeless for 6 years . I had about the same setup the biggest difference is that I eventually started digging an ungrounded shelter to survive the winters easier.
Can't believe someone hasn't pick out that shiny tarp you have covering your shelter. Keep safe out there and cities even small towns aren't as safe as they once were.
I'm guessing that , because of the way it's positioned , the only way someone could see that shiny tarp would be for them to have a view from above
So, either no one has walk above it or they saw it and ignored it, I think I would either cover it with brush or find a camo tarp to throw over it, but that's just me.@@garycondon7719
It was that red piece that’s very eye catching. I’ve had a ‘53 airstream way out in the woods- lived there 3 years, very peaceful.
Yes, the red piece is eye catching if you're looking into the structure from that angle, but that shiny tarp is more visible from more angles. Don't know how you got an airstream out into the woods, but I hope you can continue to live there unmolested. Have never had to face homelessness myself but definitely feel for those who do. Life is funny, seems that there are those who cannot fail no matter how hard they try and those who cannot succeed no matter how hard they try, tis the fickle finger of fate they tell me.@@DChristina

The guy I hired to tow my old airstream into that holler in the redwoods was cursing and sweating bullets getting it down those one-lane hairpin turns, admitted 😮he was crazy trying it. He’d moved it before- just a few miles into a meadow by a creek a few years previous before this where I rented a spot for 2 years. But made it down to my forested spot deep on the woods. Lived there a few years - then sold it to him when I moved out of state. Guess he had fun bringing it out of that holler! It was nice living simply in nature. That was decades ago; since then had a great kid who’s grown now, went back to school and had a career helping others. Nice to be retired and able to get out in nature regularly. Homelessness is on the rise and will become the norm for a HUGE number of Americans. I think most people are in denial about it because it still very much stigmatized by society. But the harsh truth is, one doesn’t have to be an ex con or drug addict to be homeless. All one needs is to lose your job and run out of savings to live on, that’s really all it takes.. may the good Lord protect you out there! 🙏☦️
Got a place like that that's lasted 7 years rob .seems invisible in full sight .ime not homeless but kept me warm through deep frosts and snow most material its built with is waste wood from building sites been found a few times but not really bothered..wishing you all the best ..steve ( England)

Yeah luckily I got unlimited service on the free phone. Keeping it charged is awful. Food isn’t too bad when you know where to look. Hit up some gas station dumpsters at night. They usually throw things away daily!
Hi Rob , I'm a new subscriber and I'm in the same boat you're in so we aren't the only one's who are homeless !!! The only difference between you and I is that I ain't walking to Florida , I have to stay here in NYC until I get a number of operations . I wish I were able to walk to Florida or somewhere that I can live in peace and quiet . Anyway Brother you stay safe and watch your back wherever you go cause there's a bunch of assholes out there. I honestly think it looks great, you did a really good job and from what you stated it evolved from a tent to a temporary to full time shelter/home. Stay positive, do what you have to and keep moving forward. I was very close to being in the same position along with my wife had it not been for my mother, ida been in the same position. Thank you! Most of the trees around are tiny. I can carry them around. I checked every good looking spot in the woods, and the safest was right next to a dead one lol. The shelter is right up against a solid tree too, plus the walls, I have a good chance of nothing happening I think. Main thing I always worried about was the tarp roof getting messed up.

God bless you. Modern society is not so great, your not missing much. Sometimes I think if I had not started a family I might have just ran out into the woods and stayed there. Im always very in tune to everything going on around me and the city is just static and loud noise. I find my peace in the woods! I hope you stay safe and healthy!!
Nice setup. The closest I have been to being "homeless" was when I hiked the Appalachian Trail. You are out there for months in all kinds of weather, snakes, deer & bears. I met transients and some homeless people living a nomadic lifestyle as well as people from all walks of life. Enjoy those peaceful nights!

Very cool setup. Hearing about your story briefly it’s reassuring to see that you’re comfortable living in a situation like this and embracing it instead of being miserable and a drunk or anything like that as you’ve said lol. Being tied to a desk job, going through divorce, it’s stuff like this that has a bit of a romance to the feeling of being alone and free and able to call the shots in your life without anything weighing you down. I’ve been spending a lot of time alone in the woods myself lately and been having a lot of these thoughts about just being a nomad. Life is simpler sometimes without the weight of our modern culture. And it’s great to see this explosive growth in your TH-cam channel so quickly! The TH-cam algorithms are in your favor my friend! Keep up the great content. In the woods close to where I live there is a man who has built similar to yours but put pallets down as the floor. Very clean and the structure he built looks incredible. He is also a veteran, never met him but saw pictures of his place.

Rob I commend you in your camp, I live in NH and every Homeless camp around my area has TONS of trash, garbage all over their camps. I was saying to my wife the other day if they kept the area clean and didnt trash the plan I dont think many people would mind. The City keeps tearing down and cleaning up all the trash sites. So thank you for keep it cleaned up. Looks great

Many other commenters seem to have experienced homelessness too and while I can't relate, I remain convinced I COULD be homeless at any moment; any of us can so I often ponder on wtf I'd do and how I'd cope; it's a terrifying thought tbh. Much respect for keeping area clean our city's are looking like dumps do to the homeless that live on our streets that throw there garbage everywhere it's disgusting so truly appreciate you for keeping it clean in the area your in
Our house is near railroad tracks and a park. We had problems with homeless invading the area and had to call the police multiple times. My problem wasn’t that they were back there camping. It was the fact that they were completely trashing our neighborhood and disrespecting the land. They would throw their trash right on the ground-EVERYWHERE. They made no effort whatsoever to keep the area clean. I would watch them go to the liquor store down the road and buy liquor and food. Right on the ground all the garbage went-blowing everywhere in the wind. They would also roam the block drunk and yelling even at late night. We finally had enough and went to city council. They were cleared out shortly after. We also had problems with them urinating right in the open and in front of people. They were total pigs.
However, I would have no problem at all with someone like this man camping in the woods. He’s clean, sober, and seems to have a good grasp on everything. Just because one is homeless doesn’t mean they can do whatever they please and disrespect the community. You still have to function among society and follow some rules. I’m sorry that he isn’t more fortunate, but I certainly respect what he has accomplished. Thank you for caring about the land and your surroundings.

G'day Rob , very well made and situated camp set up mate . Well done . Looks super neat area , excellent walls of brush for protection and privacy . You're missing only one item if you're able accumulate the material - some bricks and or some rocks to make a fireplace for keeping your shelter home warm thru the vicious winter and ability to do some open fireplace cooking . How did you make it without fire?
You can get cheap moving blankets from Harbor Freight as insulation and a garbage bag of leaves under your sleeping bag.
