Very very in depth review. Nice one Bruce. I'm confused when kit makers nowadays get things wrong. They obviously research the subject but it seems not as well as they could have. They should give you a call dude.
Jim Creee thanks! I suppose that there are so many thousands of little details and variable parts that a new company is going to take some time to find their way. Goodness knows early Dragon and Tamiya kits have their share of faults too. 😀
Amazing review! The first portion of the video breaking down each variant is the stuff I always like to see. Reminded me of Adam's excellent Tiger for Dummies video. And I am glad to see the kit is so accurate and Border is open to improving! I have been planning, as you know, to do something similar for StuG III. Such breakdowns are very helpful even without a review attached, so I might go that direction.
Panzermeister36 thanks ! Adam’s video was definitely an inspiration for this approach. At some point I’ll do a separate series just on the features, not part of a review. 🤞
Excellent job. Well done. I am a fan of Border Models but they do seem to have a problem with different members of their design team not being clear on what they are doing. As an example, I don't believe that whoever wrote the assemble instructions has ever actually built a model. The person in charge of the marking schemes is not letting pesky details get in the way of their profiles. So forth and so on..... Looking forward to your build review.
Michael Hatch thanks! I guess as a new model kit manufacturer they are refining their process as they go along. They are certainly capable of putting out well-produced kits, just need to invest a bit more in research of the subjects. Remember early Dragon kits had accuracy issues too. 😀 I believe they outsourced their paint and marking schemes to Ammo, so errors there are technically not Border’s...
Cöen's Scale Modelling thanks! I know it was a lot longer than I would have liked, but there was a lot to cover. 😀 an hour of your life you’ll never get back 🤣🤣🤣
@@brucethemodelnoob I consider it well spent. Learned quite a lot from that vid... I’ll forget most of it hahaha unless it’s in print I can’t remember crap. But I enjoyed it just the same.
If you’re just buying one book, then “Panzerkampfwagen IV and Its Variants 1935-1945 Book 2” by Walter Spielberger is probably the best. Make sure it’s Book 2 (with the white cover), not his first Pz IV book (with the red and yellow cover). If you want to do a deeper dive, the Craig Ellis’ 8wheelsgood series provide excellent detailed supplementary information. His Update 3 and Update 4 are probably the best references for factory-specific features of Ausf. G and H. They are available on blurb.com
Amazingly in-depth, so interesting; I felt like I was at school and should be taking notes! I would love to see what you think of Tamiya's early G (I forget the #), and maybe a comparison. Thanks a lot, much appreciated. Nick
Superb review as always Bruce, always something to learn and your a darn good teacher, I'll have to check but did you review the Border Ausf J & G already ?, many thanks.
Hi Bruce . I just finished watching both of your reviews of the F1 and now this video of the G . I have on my way to me , slow boat from overseas , the F1 kit . I do not know if it has the correct Turret in it or not . My question is , do you have any of the correct turrets still available for the F1 ? All in all , your reviews IMHO are the most indepth and easiest to follow that I have seen . I have now subscribed to you and will be watching more of them . Thank you . Oh and BTW , I'm in Canada in BC
Hope you enjoy it! Remember that that the metal barrel is the extra-long L-48, so you can only use it on a very late G, or an H or J. You won’t be able to use it on the soon-to-be-released Tamiya Ausf G.
@@brucethemodelnoob thanks for the response uncle bruce. Na I'm talking about using it on my old 1994 release tamiya pz4 j with the eduard upgrade kit.
You mean the campaign in Africa? The Ausf G was the last version to be added in Africa (starting in mid-1942). Newer Ausf Gs with newer features continued arriving in Africa up to April 43. Ausf G models sent to Africa were built before shurzen was added.
Bruce I really appreciate this video. I was able to acquire the Border BT-033 Panzer IV Auf G Mid version. I looked it over and the barrel is multiple parts. I prefer metal barrels and I have a question. Have you built the BT-033 version? And can you recommend an aftermarket metal? I found one that claims it’s compatible for Border kits but it’s a brand I don’t know and is on eBay.
@@Chaos-lb9hi thanks for the kind words. I’ve never built BT-033… I’ve kind of moved away from Border’s kits. If I wanted to do a mid G like that kit I’d probably go for the new-ifs RFM one, or of course the OG Dragon Kharkov G.
@ I appreciate the reply. I looked over the barrel and muzzle break in the BT-033 kit and it appears to be the 7.5 cm L48 barrel I thought it was the L43 I might be able to find an aftermarket metal barrel. I honestly prefer a metal muzzle break with the barrel. I have hear the RFM kits are excellent and I’ll have to find out if they have a Panzer III L Now I have to find photos if the Panzer IV G at Kharkov 43 if they used 80 or winter tracks. Again thank you for the reply
@ Border has a sketchy track record with barrels on Pz IVs. The metal barrel included with BT-003 is an L-48. BT-033 is a mid production Pz IV and should absolutely have an L/43. Aber is good for aftermarket barrels. Check out eBay for Aber and a there are also bunch of other brands I’m not familiar with.
Thanks! I guess it depends on what vintage of Pz IV you’re looking at. Overall I think Dragon is probably still is the best overall, but I have a couple of the new RFM and Miniart kits in my stash, and they look pretty good. I haven’t built any of their Pz IVs yet though.
Privater Account “Panzerkampfwahen IV and its Variants Volume 2” by Spielberger, “Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. G, H, and J” by Jentz & Doyle, “Panzer IV on the Battlefield” Volumes 1 and 2 by Ellis, and “Pz.Kpfw. IV at the Front Volume 3” also by Ellis.
Oh my God i can't express how much i loved the breakdown of features. Please do more of these. It's such a perfect type of video for me.
