How to program a sanitary pressure transmitter

- In this video, you will learn how to manually program the PI sanitary pressure transmitter from ifm using the pushbutton menu and display, as well as, how to access the written instructions from the product datasheet on the ifm website. The PI series from ifm uses ceramic capacitive technology as the sensing principle, which relies on the ceramic measuring cell resembling a plate capacitor. The reference and measuring electrodes are at a constant distance apart, and the capacitance is inversely proportional to this distance. When pressure is applied, the distance changes are measured and converted into pressure by a microprocessor. Ceramic capacitive technology provides long-term durability that does not fatigue like stainless steel pressure gauges can, and it is more resistant to abrasion, dents, or dings that could throw off pressure measurements in other types of technologies. The internal support construction creates very high pressure ratings, including overload pressure ratings.
It can be used with hydraulic oils, water-based media, compressed air, and industrial gases. This pressure sensor performs well at monitoring:
• Tank Level with hydrostatic pressure
• Tank level with foamy media
• Line pressure
• Pressure in lines with water hammer
• Pressurized tanks
• Tanks with spray balls
• Fermentation tanks for brix calculations
Using IO-Link technology, you can receive multiple process values (temperature and pressure) over a single wire. The PI series provides high resolution with 20,000 steps, making it able to calculate the small density changes that occur during fermentation and track brix calculations in real-time.
