good info. I had to refresh. it's been since 1982 that I had to acually check bores in a cylinder. not only that I got the bore gauge and was sitting here and telling myself" how was it I check the bore with the gauge" thanks for the refresher

Good vid. Thanks for making a somewhat confusing process easy to understand.

This really helped me out. I guess if you build to spec and clearance for piston/ rings are out of spec u need to take back to machine shop where bore was done?

thanks. very informative. attempting doing first re-ringing on an old triumph.

Seems like the ridge at the top would mess up getting a good reading with that digital caliper unless its edges were able to get below it

so if the machine shop bores my cylinder to 68.5mm, i need a 68.5mm piston since piston clearance is already considered when the piston is made?

JOESLIM you will need a small piston other wise will scrape the cylinder walls.

if you want a precise measurement, make sure the temperature is 20 °C

    50 over with .004" clearance????? i don't see any 50 over on paper. unlless u mean .25mmx2?
How did u get .5mm over???
Could u explain your measurments? it would be clearer if u stuck to mm or inches instead of going back and forth.
    sorry i'm slow.

the piston is 68.25mm and the bore is 2.619 (65.475mm)then you say piston is too small ..... ??????

My god do not tell these people to use a CALIPER to measure the bore! You CAN NOT get an accurate measurement with a caliper since the wear is below the top of the cylinder. You have to measure from a few inches down the bore. The piston rings never contact the very top of the cylinder so it should always be a factory spec and never have wear which will tell people that their piston to cylinder spec is was tighter than it actually is.

    Stop this stupid inch stuff.
