I've been following you for years on CNET. So happy for your success on TH-cam, hope you hit 200K soon.
My Uncle, Father Peter F. O'Brien S.J., was the personal manager and friend of famous jazz musician, Mary Lou Williams. Mary Lou mentored Thelonious Monk in the early 1940's. Mary Lou passed away in 1981 while Thelonious passed in 1982. My Uncle Peter held a memorial jazz venue at the famed Apollo Theater in 1982 to commemorate Mary Lou's and Thelonious Monk's contributions to the art of Jazz. Dizzy Gillespie played that night (cheeks flared.) After the venue my fifteen year old version of myself helped Dizzy load his trumpet into the trunk of his car which had been parked in front of the Apollo...
What a cool story.
❤️😎
Congratulations on 150k subs! I came to this channel as a 100% noob with no experience in owning anything truly audiophile grade. I just admire it and wanted to know more for the day that I do get a chance to own. Your channel has taught me so much. I appreciate it!
Thanks!
The Emotiva website GR1 link is, at last, up, emotiva.com/products/airmotiv-gr1-headphones
Steve, from all the reviewer's takes, I respect yours the most. Congrats!
I love this channel so much.
Exactly... Steve is the man
Steve, you deserve 150,000 subscribers for the right reasons.
Aside: One of the joys of high quality streaming is that I can audition recordings you mention, like, right now. And, don't forget, Springsteen's stuff WAS mixed and mastered to be played on a pickup truck radio, not so much First Watt/Klipsch Cornwall! (Oh god, here they come, chanting and with torches.)
;)
Congratulations on 150k!
Although it's a nice milestone, it is merely a stepping stone to even greater numbers, I'm sure.
Always enjoy your work!
Just bought these headphones and subscribed to your channel. It’s been a good day!
Congratulations on 150k! Best wishes from the UK! :)
A huge congratulations on a massive milestone, Steve. 150,000 subscribers is seriously awesome for such a niche hobby. I've been following you for donkeys years and am so happy that one of the OG reviewers ( The other being Tyll Hertson ) is still going strong for our daily dose of audiophile goodness.
Congratulations. Just found your channel about a week ago. Been binge watching from the beginning and learning a lot. Thanks
+1
Great to see the growth of this channel. When I subscribed there were less than 40K subs.
Thanks for hanging in there!
Congratulations Steve! I've enjoyed your articles and videos for some time. You're the man.
Let's move towards 200,000 Steve. You deserve it. You've got a great way about you and you know how to talk audio equipment and music.
Really like that you present different albums and talk about it, make me buy more music!
150K!!! Congratulations 🍾🍾💯👍😎
Wilson and I really enjoy watching your channel from our island.
Lithuania is here!!! Congrats!!!
Most important is "Congrats on 150k"!!!! Emotiva...I do have there Outdoor Speakers and they do Rock...The Headphone space is established and jumping into the water with Sharks you better know what your trying to accomplish. Maybe there trying to be better then Beats? My goto is Focal, Grado, Shure(In-Ear) and AKG.
150,000 subscribers!!! Congrats. Gotta run. I'm about to order a pair of Emotiva GR1's.
Congrats on hitting 150k! Thanks for this great channel.
Congratulations Steve on 150k subscribers. Love you man. Hope you double to 300k next year.
You deserve it. You are one of the hardest working TH-camrs I've ever seen. Congratulations! (and I don't even live in any of the countries you count). :)
Congrats on 150k Steve. Well deserved. Onwards and upwards!
Congratulation reaching your milestone goal, Steve. Keep going to your next goal.
Congratulations Steve great work
Congrats Steve! And to your wife for the great shirts!
$300 and a free case. The $4000 Focal Utopias didn't even come with a case when they first came out.
Yeah, Springsteen's albums are rather low on the fidelity scale although the better mastered versions of my favorite album "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" are pretty good. His album with the soundtrack from the movie Western Stars is a well recorded album and has some great songs as well.
Congratulations Steve, you deserve it!
Congratulations on the 150k subs, well deserved. As for the Emotiva's aside from being in a nice price range they are a great looking pair of cans.
This headphone is so new it doesn't even show up when I google it. It's also not listed in the website!
I cant find anything about these headphones either. Weird.
Yeah nothing here either. I bet Emotiva shot this thing out to Steve possibly well in advance.
It is now
Its available now on the emotiva site
Steve is from the future
Congrats Steve!
Keep it going!
Congratulations on the 150K! I've been enjoying you since this whole "Covid Craziness" began and never considered headphones as a serious listening option. Then I found you! Maybe this might be my first pair. Keep up the great work.
Congratulations Steve!
Congratulations on 150,000 Steve!
Thanks for the review Steve!
I bought the GR-1 3 yrs ago. Really liked them. Comfort is very good and they sound great. As of my writing the GR-1 is no longer made. I had one issue with them. The cable went bad. Cutting out on one cup. Yes, I switched them around and the other cup kept cutting out. 2 yrs and 3 cables later, same problem still. So... I said the hell with this. Bought a cable from BJC. It's been heaven with the new cable. I wonder if that is why Emotive stopped production. Other than that, They are great.
Congrats Steve, I just gave you 150th like!
Congratulations Steve...from Portugal for the 150k....💯👍
Congrats for the 150K subs
Congrats Steve! Also, when those headphones become available I will definitely have me a set. Thanks for the information!
Available now on Emotiva website.
Milestone Steve Congratulations
Exciting! Especially, as a 6XX owner!
I’m just now starting to get into listening to hi fidelity music, and this channel feels like getting advice from a quirky uncle. I love it!!!
He's very knowledgeable. It's the only channel you need to get into hifi.
Congratulations Steve! 😀🏆
I am watching from Wuxi China and love your show!
Congratulations! Big up Lithuania!
Steve, thanks to you I am ruined. I spent 6 hours listening to Chesky recordings. All my other recordings pale now. I used my Grado SR225's and HIFIMAN Sundara's and each brought out things I didn't think possible. Chesky recordings is where it's at man! Congrats on the 150,000!!
Sundara - great sound, lousy build quality. They sound a bit like NAD Visa HP50.
Congrats on 150k! Love your videos, especially the "systems".
oh I have been watching for a while didn't realise I wasn't subscribed lol.
Congratulations !!!!!.
Great review as always! Congrats on 150,000 subscribers!!!!👍👌👍👌
great review steve watched you for years in canada now back in Scotland .i must have been drunk when i decided to come back to the uk .the damp cold weather.keeps me indoors .so.more music regards to north America .my 2 favourite citys are new York and Montreal .😊😊😊
Malaysia is tuned in and subscribed.
Congrats, Steve!
Wish you a lot more subs Steve! I've learnt so much here, I guess it's just a matter of time before you have half a million!
Just got these. I LOVE THEM!
Yay, great, I just bought HD6xx... oh well, I still love the review and your channel Steve.
You will love the 6xx. Great common reference point and it will always be good to keep in the stable for that purpose. Truly an excellent headphone that scales wonderfully with better amplification.
Nice review 👍 Great variety and price range.
Greetings from Salzburg/Austria Super Reviews!!
Congratulations!
150k greetings!
Hello Lithuanian Audiophilliac fans!!
Love Thelonious Sphere Monk and the sound of 1957 recordings.
Thanks Steve ;-)
Wow, amazing review of an amazing looking headphone!! Thanks
Wooo!!! 150K!!!!
Congrats on the big one-five-oh, Steve! 😃 🎉
Great video, congrats on 150,000, 200,000 soon? Agree 100% on the lousy sound quality of Springsteen's albums, I just wonder why.
150k 🥳 🎧🔊🎶
Well deserved, Steve!
Congratulations on the 150k subscribers Steve. You’ve come a long way since the Police Academy movies🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👏. Keep up the good work.
Steve, have you read all of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories? Couldn't help but noticing the complete works on the back shelf. One of my favorites.
It's a great idea to have the cable not crossing from left to right through the headband. Those sort often go dead on the Right side. AKG for example.
This being audiophilia, I initially assumed references to 150k subs were some really high end subwoofers.
But, congrats on the 150k subscribers, and thanks for always working for those of us on somewhat more limited budgets!
Glad to be a subscriber Steve. How about a review of the definitive technology D11’s
I see where all the older Dan Clark cases went. Referred to as the butt case. Have done for my ether flow. Works well. I assume this new headphone was a dynamic driver? The connectors on the headphone and went mention, hirose like dan Clark, 2.5 mm, mini xlr? Thank!
Steve always turns me on to good shit!
Steve here are two for you:. Tigran Hamasyans mockroot album and Julian lage love hurts. You've never mentioned these albums (daily listener) and I think they are both modern masterpieces.
In the Netherlands... Don't forget to mention the Netherlands 😉
"per-rety good" - Steve Guttenberg. They're gonna put that endorsement on their future packaging.
Lol I heard it in his voice without even watching the video yet
I'm assuming Steve is a fan of Larry David
I notice a little thing, but one that I think would make a big difference with these and that is the ear cup shape. It is fatter on the bottom as most people's head taper down lower than the ears. It makes sense and I am assuming/hoping it isn't a gimmick?
I agree with you on Springsteen and Monk.
But I do really like Aoifef O’Donavan’s version of Nebraska.
Steve for your listening pleasure I suggest Ginger Baker’s sorely overlooked World Music releases Middle Passages and Horses and Trees. Bill Frisell produced with Jazz musicians and Middle East and Afirican musicians. So overlooked.
I'm from Bangladesh. I always inspired and curious about sound and technology.. best wishes from my heart.....
Congrats on 150k Steve!! Been watching you for a couple years now, maybe longer. Very cool
By the way, I watch on Roku on TV and the playlists are super easy to find; if you pause the video, you will see the little round logo of your Channel. All one has to do is click on that channel logo and then it will go to the main page where you can start playing the playlists. ( This should be the same across different platforms as well since TH-cam seems to have a very similar app for TV or Streaming Devices.)

I believe that emotiva put the cart before the horse. When I hear their name, I immediately think of amplifiers. Their initial entry into this space should have been a headphone that could drive anything (iems, 32 up to 600 ohms) with meaningful gain switches for loudness control. I know of the base x but if they did a hybrid a hp amp with switchable pre amp/ amp speaker outs with about 10 clean watts, variable sub out they would have the hp, computer near field audiophiles eargasming.
dont forget NEW-CALEDONIA, Congrats THE AUDIOPHILIAC. Thanks for your helpful reviews
Is there an album?
Looks fantastic besides the honey comb. But I'm still interested.
Is a portable DAC/amp like the Audioquest Cobalt needed when connecting these headphones to an iPhone 7? Would the headphones benefit from using one? Was considering purchasing the hd6xx but this review has given me pause . Appreciate the insightful reviews and congrats on the 150k milestone.
These are a 32 ohm headphone and do sound good being driven directly from a phone. However, if there is a headphone amp available, they will reward the listener in an amazing way.
@@stevehowell3279 Appreciate the feedback.
Great review, please review Sivga Phoenix $255 at amazon and those are awesome open back headphone for value.
Steve, should I get the Tekton Lores or the Zu Dirty Weekends? Thanks! Love your channel
What did you get? I’m planning on the newForte IVs.
@@christinearmington I'd love the Cornwall IVs myself! Haven't decided yet.
Congratulations! On 150k. How does Emotiva do it.
Congrats on 150K! 🎹 John Lennon would be proud!
Emotiva headphones 😳. Well I mean it's about time I guess. It might be a little late for many of us. Looks good but nothing is gonna pull me away from my Sennheiser.
Which model?
I love my HD6xx's and the Meze Noirs but I feel the GR-1's are much more fun to listen to. Not as neutral but just enough impactful bass without bloat or smearing. The highs are just below being harsh or strident. I got mine with the Big EGO+ DAC/headphone amp combo and I love it! Works great and sounds fine.
From Steve's review and the specs, the GR1 seems like a good solid performer but not exceptional, which is what you might expect from Emotiva at this price point, where there are a lot of competitors.
Not gonna lie, that headphone case lookin thicc
+1 like from Australia!
He's wishing you a million subs soon, Steve.
Excited about this HP. Great review and comparisons
In Mexico, Too. Thank to you.
Thelonious Monk didn’t ever have a drum sound at all! But Roy Haynes did and still does!
Roy is an amazing monster drummer. I hope he lives to 200 and is still playing
Roy is an amazing monster drummer. I hope he lives to 200 and is still playing.
No worries, it will be on their website soon
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac You responded to the wrong comment Steve.
A big fan from Beijing ....
I am sure they are good headphones but I doubt they could beat Grado headphones at the same price or less. The Grados by the way are made in the United Srates.
Hi Steve, Congratulation!. I have a question that i need your help. First please forgive my english is not that great. I have a 2 channel home audio and i also have a Audeze LCD i3 headphone and my question is when i listen music to my headphone the music come out with so much MICRO detail that when i listen to my 2 channel home audio it no compare. So my 1st question is there possible to get that much detail or more out of the 2 channel home audio? 2nd if so should i use my headphone as a guide to get my 2 channel audio to sound that good or better?. Thank you in advance Sir
Hi Steve, what headphone amp (if any) did you use with these? And do you think the Shiit Magnius will be to powerful for these headphones at 32 ohms? Thank you, and love the channel.
