Slime, the way to redeem yourself isn’t to beat kids at basketball, it’s to beat Lud. You gotta secretly train, nothing on cam, not around Lud, until you’re confident enough. Then show up out of nowhere to one of Lud’s basketball meetups and 1v1 him. If you beat him, never play him again and then you can say that you are better than him forever
For anyone interested, the way you deal with someone posting up on you, aka, the Ludwig dumpy strat, is by putting all your weight on their back while low to the ground with your shoulder, you're not supposed to use your hands but people like Dennis Rodman did it. You'd be wondering that if you're too tall and or strong and or heavy they can't do anything against you, and you'd be right. That's why Shaq in his prime made 6'10 bigmen look like highschool kids.
We are watching a streamer/podcaster react to his TH-camr friends video about him getting diced up by children in basketball. You really think anyone’s coming to THIS comment section for advice?
@@lawyermorty6735 I'm using a couple of minutes to type something that some random person I've never met who doesn't know anything about basketball but is curious about this specific thing and you decide to reply with that?
1 Shoes: basketball shoes are made to interact on the court- they grip really well and allow side to side movement and fast stops for vertical jumps. Running shoes are not good for side to side movement because they are not made for court traction, and are made to keep your feet comfy while running. 2 Footwork: Learn to shuffle your feet side to side so you can always face the ballhandler rather than running foot-over-foot to turn and follow them. The ballhandler is trying to go toward the basket so remember that you can shuffle backward and intercept their path to the basket rather than following their number. (After a really annoying intro, NBA Basement has a good demonstration on how you should be moving your feet. just mute the video to watch: 4 Great Basketball Defense Drills for all ages - Fundamentals) 3 Hands: If you don't have the size advantage so you can't block the ball, and you don't have the athleticism (no offense) so you can't cleanly steal the ball, you can just put your hand in front of the shooter's eyes so they can't see the hoop. Make them have to remember where it was when they tried to pull up. 4 Fouls: It's really complicated, but basically- don't shove people, you can't hit the arms of the player shooting, you can't hold a player or their jersey, you can't kick the ball. Those are like the most common ones that would come up for 1v1 basketball but there's a lot of rules for fouls. 5 Backing into the paint: Use your hips- using your shoulders is (lol) a foul. Your hips are closer to your center of gravity and therefore it is much easier to keep your balance as you push people back. You are also able to keep the ball further from the defender compared to leaning your upper body into the defender. 6 Dribbling: yeah just practice. bouncing a rubber ball is a very predictable physics experiment- you can trust it to come back to your hand, just learn the timing. 7 Shooting: jump as high up as you can and/or slightly backwards or to the side to create space from the defender (practice) 8 Getting crossed up: you lead your left foot too far forward to the ballhandler. he recognized that you would have to turn around to defend him if he ran toward your back. instead, keep a more neutral, shoulders square to the defender stance that allows for ^^ good footwork. Also remember that most ballhandlers are right handed and want to run to the right side of the court because then they naturally dribble further from the defender, making it harder to steal the ball. - sincerely, a former high school varsity, now washed basketball player p.s. you gotta get comfortable jumping. stuff the shit out of somebody and then tell them they got their tax return early or something idk. there's no better time to talk shit than after good defense
Hi Slime, running shoe guy here again. The difference between your brooks ghosts and a proper basketball shoe is that a running shoe is built solely for forward and backward movement. Basketball shoes are designed to help support your foot during those lateral movements that put a substantial amount of force on the shoes that running shoes are not designed to accommodate. Obviously someone can still “break your ankles” in a proper basketball shoe but it is much less likely because of the way the shoe is structured. I hope you find this interesting, if you have more running shoe questions let me know 😊
Common basketball verbiage is “you reach I’ll teach,” meaning don’t reach for the ball on defense , just stay balanced and in front of them with a hand in their face
Also with the back-down strat, if the defender can time it and just move as Ludwig was backing up, Lud would’ve just fallen down. Called pulling the chair
Basketball shoes and running shoes are very different. As someone who played basketball in high school, the difference in a running shoe and a basketball shoe is huge. I'm not sure of the specifics, but you can't hard stop in a running shoe like you can in a basketball shoe. I remember playing basketball in running shoes once and nearly blowing out the front all over the place. The grip is different as well. And the ankle support of a basketball shoe is sturdier and usually the sole has a wider base. Basketball shoes also have more exotic styles to them.
2:08 lateralsupport, cushion, and traction are the focus of basketball shoes. Not a big runner but I would say weight is probably the single biggest factor when it comes to running shoes, which is nice for a basketball shoe but the other things are more important. Hence why they're usually bigger and heavier 2:24 you gotta get low and shuffle your feet side to side to cut off his line to the rim with your body, your body has to be in between him and the goal. You're allowing straight line drives basically which is a no no. At least make him take a long jumper or change direction a bunch of times. But its tough cuz hes d1 lmao 5:21 not really subjective, more that it can be interpreted differently in the heat of the moment but the rules are the rules. Basically you cant slap someone and you have to be in "legal guarding position" which is basically being perfectly between the ballhandler and the basket. If there is contact in that position it's clean, if there's contact after he gets a step on you or something then it's a foul (because you're no longer in legal guarding position). 6:23 Im not an expert but I would say that athleticism is fitness + sport-specific technique & coordination. Also I would say that if you get good at one sport it allows you to pick up other sports easier so it can kinda snowball. 10:12 first of all there's a certain amount of time you can be in the paint at one time, usually 5 seconds if you have the ball and 3 seconds if you dont. Besides that, you'd want to get low and use your chest (maybe an arm bar if they're not calling it) to absorb contact. If you're smaller you gotta use your lower center of gravity to your advantage, but there's only so much you can do if the other guy is way bigger. 11:23 literally just get good there's no other way im sorry 12:00 look at the other person's stomach/core when you're guarding them and react to that. Dont focus on their eyes or their feet or the ball because that can be used to misdirect, but you cant go anywhere without your core. 17:07 shit is not clean but refs are less likely to call a foul on a smaller guy fouling a bigger guy just cuz its less noticeable. 17:37 you're sprinting backwards not shuffling laterally to cut off his path. Yeah youre technically close to him the entire time but if youre not cutting him off then hes just going to dribble wherever tf he wants and you might as well not be there at all.
so when you defend you gotta do a "crab" walk, get low so you can fish the ball easier, and when you are defending you gotta hold the ball tight and put your elbows out, they work like a shield, just like that chatter said, either way, this wa super funny to watch big man and a bit sad too, but all fun and games
@2:34 flat footed, being on your toes, watch the arm. running shoes are rounded, basketball shoes are flatter but have more cushion in the sole of the shoe also basketball shoes have better ankle support to assist jumping and better grip on the floor so you can stop on a dime.
yes backing up for too long is illegal, in the nba there's a limit to how long you can dribble with your back to the basket. they had to install that rule after barkley abused it in the 90s
As someone who used to work in a shoe store: running shoes and basketball shoes fall under “sneaker” territory but basketball shoes have more reinforced ankle areas so you don’t sprain shit. Other than that, they’re practically identical. It’s kind of a rectangle and square thing. All running shoes can be basketball shoes, but not all basketball shoes can be running shoes
@@Henry-qt3py bang on actually - like I said - lots of parallels but you can also bridge into skateboard shoes with the flat soles, lots of variety in the athletic shoe department…
Tennis shoes and basketball shoes also have a lot of carry over. I would highly recommend not using running shoes for basketball though. Running shoes aren’t made for side to side movement so, there’s a high chance of rolling your ankle like the other guy said
Fitness would be how long you can do something. Like endurance. Athleticism would be like how well you could perform and learn skills pertaining to sports. Like being able to run a lot would mean that you could play soccer for a long time but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you are good at soccer and have dribbling skills and footwork. So to be a good athlete doesn’t necessarily mean your fitness is the best but your knowledge and mechanics of the sport or your ability to learn and adapt is of high enough quality. Just the way you run in basketball is so stagnant and uncoordinated and slow it almost looks like you’ve never played a sport in your life ever. But playing any new sport is discombobulating especially contact sports and you aren’t sure of the rules or how to interact with other players.
