    I feel like adding thicker rubber pieces in addition or to replace the OEM ones would do wonders. Gonna head to the hardware store and see what I can find, drill a coupe holes in them and make my own pads.

  • @seanfried5583
    @seanfried5583 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    You can make new pads with felt or just poke a hole in any kind of semi strong material and add it next the felt and it will help hold up the boom.

    I add two rings of 300g sand paper under the pads cut to size facing the metal ...it works for every stand

  • @dannythemedic
    @dannythemedic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    hmm.. drill a series of holes and use a nail to hold the angle.

    My cheap mic stand didnt even have rubber pads, only plastic and metal bare contact!
    I found a very good solution though! I Found a vinyl rubber glove (the kind you buy 100 packs of). I cut two of the fingers off, cut a hole in the other end as well. Rolled them up added them inbetween the spots of friction. It works amazingly well!

    I had a mic stand that was just a little smaller and I used it clamped to my desk. This stand NEVER fell and it was pretty inexpensive too (about $15-25).
    Fast forward to when I now have 3 monitors and a triple monitor mount. This mic stand gets in the way of my either my first or third monitor depending on where I hook it up. I order a new freestanding boom arm and deal with my current setup 'til it arrives.
    The first thing to happen either day one or day two is exactly this problem. This new mic stand was about $25-$40 and looked better than my old one.

    So pleased you covered this! I have a stand that holds the mic just fine during a session, but if I leave it set up overnight the mic is on the floor the next morning, so obviously it's drooping very slowly. I look forward to attempting a fix now. Thank you!

    If these rubber pads wear down that fast, I would treat them as a consumable and replace those before throwing away a whole stand

    My SE Reflection filter is always tipping my mic stand over. Thanks for tip but it may be time to invest in a better mic stand.

    Listening with headphones, I could hear the very faint meowing of a cat (likely a very loved cat that’s treated like a human, a true family member that’s been closed in a bedroom or something while he films, mine do exactly the same😂), but took me a while to work out it was coming from the video. Me running around the house checking all rooms & cupboards trying to sight both my cats thinking the meowing was one of them & they got locked in somewhere 😅😂

    When the plastic pads break down this is no help. Any other thoughts on where to find replacements? Good ideas so far involve using sandpaper for friction, felt pads, or rubber washers. I've tried rubber washers from Home Despot with mixed success, so part numbers or sizes would be a big help. Cheers!

    A simple way to fix the problem is to use it as a c-stand - the tightening nut should be always on your right side as you adjust from behind, meaning that when the mic weight pulls the stand down, it should rotate the nut clockwise! This way, it locks itself more as if slightly drops. You show a stand getting lose with the mic weight because the mic is on the LEFT when you look at the nut, meaning the mic weight is rotating the stand nut counterclockwise

    I decided to buy a cheaper stand from gleam stands and racks. When I first got it I set it up no problem and I liked it. Haven’t used it in awhile considering I’m currently recording and I completely forgot how to put it together. Haha. Thanks

    K&M has a 5 year warranty. In addition, they offer a replacement part service on all their catalogue products for 10 years .
    Kyle sold me on K&M, but the warranty seals the deal!!!!

  • @botomica

    Can the circular knobs be fixed the same way? The rod of my stand always slips and rotates no matter how tightly I turn the knob.

    Thanks my issue is odd. The screw that holds to the rod (boom)….the turn dial screw ….it doesn’t insert while the rod is assembled….it screws in perfect when disassembled not on the main mic stand . So off the main stand the screw goes in fine . ….when the boom is on the stand the thumb screw (the dial screw) won’t thread in ….how could this be ? It’s metal to metal and the screw isn’t stripped or it wouldn’t thread at all when not assembled ….any clue how to fix ???

    What if I have the opposite problem? I have a mic stand manufactured by Blue that uses what I believe is springs at the joints. My mic however is very light, and the arm raise no matter how much I tighten it. The best solution I’ve found is to hang something from the arm to weigh it down, but it’s ugly, clunky, and inconvenient. Is there possibly a fix?

  • @RoundheadRecords
    @RoundheadRecords 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question - what about the horizontal tightening area - where you turn tight and you can still push the stand downward? Giving some away but would like to fix 1st. Boom arm seems find but will clean - but it is the mid point horizontal rotation piece that will not tighten. Took apart - looks fine but I do not know anything hahahah

    What's the difference between the Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen and yours? Connecting it to the Desktop PC via USB, do the wave editors such as Audacity recognize a double 2-channel input for recording? example, you connect 2 XLR mic on scarlett and expect Audacity to record on 2 different stereo channels one for each mic. Can this happen?

    • @AudioUniversity
      @AudioUniversity  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can record separate channels with either the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 1st Gen or the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen. I'm not sure if Audacity allows it, but the interface is not the limiting factor, luckily. You might need to search for "multitrack recording audacity" to find a video on that subject.
      Are you hearing both inputs play back when you record in Audacity?

    • @babistsimoris1891
      @babistsimoris1891 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AudioUniversity right now I only use a usb condenser mic directly connected to my pc. Audacity allows you to choose only one entrance(input) from a drop down menu list. You can get many channels but it records only to the one you choose. Overdubbing is also allowed

    All large diaphragm mics on booms will expose the weakness in the mic stand.

    • @AudioUniversity

      In my experience they last much longer than that. I’ve seen K&M stands last years under heavy use. If they do start to slip, cleaning them usually fixes the problem.
