- Gilbert and Caleb our friends from the Navajo Reservation come to the farm to help out for a few days. They start Cowboy our Horse, a wild mustang that is beautiful and kind but has never been ridden. 10 Minutes into the project and this already happens! Incredible Horse training - it might be different that you would do, but you can't argue with the results! Enjoy watching the Navajo Way

In high school I had a friend who was a member of the Pima tribe. He rode saddle broncs and was always about a week late starting the school year as he was still rodeoing around the country. He was only about 5' 2" in high school and I think his strength & stature helped make him a great rider. After I got out of college at the U of A I got a job in the Phoenix area. One day I stopped in at the Salt River Native American Museum on the Salt River Reservation that had a small cafe. As I walked up to stand in line to order, there was a guy standing in front of me with a leg cast & crutches. He was in Wranglers, cowboy boots & a cowboy hat.. I recognized his last name on the back of his belt. I said, "hey "Stinky", how ya doing" (his nick name in high school). He turned around and immediately recognized me. He explained that he was still rodeoing and had been thrown by a bronc. We hadn't seen each other in about 5 years.
That’s a great story
Friends are friends for ever. In friendship, time is not important even if it past many years since each one was on is life.
It's the Indian way and the old cowboy way. With great success I might add. That horse never looked stressed in the least bit. Awesome job guys. Everyone has their own ways of doing everything.
More gentleling and training not breaking
This is how I did my filly❤ The boys are awesome😊
Gilbert & Caleb, that is AMAZING to watch!!
They have a unique way of training horses that have probably been used for generations.
Gilbert and Caleb are simply amazing
Gilbert and Caleb are awesome! Great job guys! Maybe they could get Kindness started too!
Rawhide did great today after a 1 year vacation!
Great to see Rawhide being ridden today, he's a good schoolmaster
WoW! WoW! They know what to do. Proud Navajo. You can be proud to be friend with the First Nations.
Allen, you & Vicky are such cordial special people. I know your faith brings love & peace. As you reach out to help others, the blessings are brought back to you. Prayers for the Palmer family and those they touch with their love for others. Bless Blake on his Mission.
thank you
Love my Navajo horse, Cash! Thanks greatly Gilbert and Alan!
My Cowboy was a high-school bull rider...went to state finals 2 years in a row...
Those boys did just fine. Get out and go. Cowboy will be better the next time around. Neither rider fussed with the horses makes a good foundation. 👏💕👏
Fun video!!
You boys are great 🤠
How cool to have a horse named Cowboy 💕
That's exactly how I broke my horse Barron he was 5 years old and had never been ridden and then I got my little black stallion and when he was old enough I did him the same way my. My girlfriend went down the road and we followed her. And I'm just a white girl from St Louis County. 😂LOL! I love watching these videos. You're doing such a great job with the horses.
I also follow Clever Cowgirl, and the result of the kind of training shes seen people pay big bucks for and takes weeks. Horses she's rescued from auctions that were originally sold for thousands, and by the time the "trainer" got done with them were covered with scars and sold for $200 too traumatized to even safely handle. Your horses were calm, relaxed and easily followed what the riders wanted from them. Results are what matter.
I'm impressed how well those two horses, cowboys did! I might have to start sending my own horses down to them!
❤ Please like and Share ❤ We want to continue to watch this Beautiful Family. ❤
Great to see
I agree, Alan. These young men know how to start horses. I watched a second time around and saw how everything they did had a purpose in getting the horse used to everything. Young horses living on a large range usually have well developed, strong bodies overall for their age. And typically aren't too heavy for their skeletal frame. They aren't taking Cowboy out to do an all day ride or roping off him. They're just starting him. I appreciated this video. I hope you have more like it.
Wow Cowboy didn't even bulk at that car leaving the driveway.
Love this episode so much, had to watch it twice!
Thanks so much
Hey Alan and Vicki,
what a surprise 🎉.
Good riding, boys💪👍, amazing skill Cowboys😍.
JO JO IN VT 💞
I LOVE THIS!! Wow look at these guys.
Awesome Alan, terrific horsemanship
I love how you work with the Native Peoples around there.
What amazing young men!❤
Those ❤ boys are amazing 😊
A very fun video to watch 😂
Excellent. I don’t see anything wrong with the way those boys started and rode Cowboy. I don’t know if it’s a human thing or if the horses would respond better with more conversation. Talking to the horses?
It's far kinder to start horses gradually but obviously Alan likes the sudden attack
@@pixie706 Absolutely much better. He's only 2 so there shouldn't be a rush. We never rode our horses until at least 3. Breaking to saddle is ok but they shouldn't be ridden until 3 or older when they are more developed and have better bone and muscle. development
Yup pretty EZ training on them type of horses that never been messed with, fresh mind and no bad habits .. , I offered my training , just like the one Reeves Dewitt took , I could’ve had him going , also with other horses you had there .. .. glad to see the bronc side of the trading , not the end results no one gets to see .. thanks for sharing
That was awesome!
Alan, read the story about J.D. Yates , the Yates family , Pueblo, Colorado, wonderful story , stay safe , do enjoy your videos, horses & all , thank you !
A natural lawn maintenance service...🎉
I love the rez horse transformations. Can you give us updates on Hijo and Pearl? Two of my favorites from the farm. ❤
I need to check with both of their owners, but last I heard they were doing good
Ah to be that young again
Hop on and go that’s one way
Love! Real cowboys!
❤❤
He looked like he was mad and stomping like a lilttle kid.
Lol
❤
I thought Blake had Rawhide with him ......
Nope
How old is Rawhide? i think he's is beautiful and i'm just curious.
About 17
You'd be better to put goats in that little pen full of weeds
I think the Navajo way worked very well here. I think the horses responded well to a non-nonsense, straightforward approach. They realized it was no big deal because everyone’s acting like it’s no big deal. Cowboy will have a lot to think about and digest, true, but every horse who is exposed to something new has to do the same.
exposed to something 'new'....oh, I don't know. Fear and Mistrust of humans isn't anything "new" to horses.
What ever works. They're. Not mean
A young man was found deceased in Glendale. Does Jarret have tatoos?
Not that I’m aware of
What's with the smacking with the reins? Not necessary at all.
At no time were those boys harming the horses. If anything their culture teaches them not to because animals are a gift from the creator.
@@maczoo4584 I agree with you about the culture, but it was not necessary to hit them. I have never hit any of my horses and they are all well broke and well behaved.
🤔
Where’s the fun?
What is going on with your video? Sometimes it is split in half and the rest of the time it's in 1/4. 4 different pictures at once.😮
🤔
It's a Indian thing.
