      I don't think Germans are as "direct" as they think they are. And were Destiny a German streamer he would get the same responses within the German community too. I honestly think a lot of people just think disagreeing in general is kind of "toxic". A lot of these conversations remind me of discussions I had in online forums 2005-2010ish. The reason people call destiny a victim blaming is because they want to say fuck you piece of shit to the stealther but destiny only wants to equip women so that these things wont happen to them.

      @@legessi This. People love to complain about things until you ask them what they're doing to stop the things they complain about. Then they get triggered that you're asking them to show conviction of purpose and call you a victim blamer while they sit around arguing which allows said bad thing to continue happening with no one attempting to stop it. It's why things like racism will never be "over" in America, because everyone loves to march with signs and voice all of their talking points in public spaces because they know they'll get social credit from being seen "on the right side of history".
      And then they go home, turn on Netflix, and forget about all of this until it comes up in a comment section online somewhere. And by then, they'll still have nothing substantive to show for all of the outrage they claimed to have the last time they got on their soap box.

      Hmm. I don't like just telling a person they just can't do such a common interaction w someone...because ppl should be able to engage in sexual intercourse without worrying about their partner crossing a set boundary.
      That being said. That's clearly not the world we live in. I think the important point that Destiny makes w this argument is that you need to figure out why you are not able to stand up for yourself in these situations and how you can do that or just avoid those types of interactions altogether.

    • @EZ33377
      @EZ33377 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@SkeleTonHammer it's not a slam dunk argument. You can't just pinpoint this type of behavior. What if she does all this, change the type of guy she usually sleeps w and it still happens w a completely different type of guy. That would even further traumatize her.

Maybe he came out with a later take that was harsher, but his initial take was like "I don't want to comment without knowing what it was for" and "The science on trans women in sports is unclear, but we should let them anyways". This is _worlds_ apart from his normal preference to just play into the Destiny sucks game, as well as his previous position which was that trans women in sports was practically settled science. Kinda read to me like he might even agree with Destiny but couldn't possibly take that position publicly.

    • @bigben3089

The normal rational position would be to wait until the science was clear to amend the current structure of women’s sports.
      And I just do not understand how you could possibly look at the science on this issue and come to the conclusion that the results are unclear. There’s not many instances where the science is more clear really. You don’t even really need scientific studies to know this but they are just the nail in the coffin. I get the Katee girl is trying to be reasonable but its to the point of invoking the enlightened centrist meme. She tries to ground Destiny's clams to be more "fair" when the actual situations or facts of the matter aren't compromisable.
    An example is when she argued "Don't you think after the trans-debate stuff you talked about on Prime Cayes might make some people come away thinking you could be transphobic"
    Destiny replies "No one would think this unless they think you have to unquestionably support trans people all the time"
    Katee scoffs and says "You know thats not..." I assume she was going to say what I'm saying.
    When that is the actual argument being thrown at Destiny, like when he quotes VivanWolf saying "Questioning the voracity of Trans Athletes is transphobic"
    But Katee assumes most of the criticism thrown at Destiny comes from this hyper rational, nuanced, and hyper-specific perspective she's using, when that's actually a mischaracterization of the criticisms people give him. No one who actually engages with Destiny's material thinks this, and its catering to people who would never care to actually investigate. She's being so charatiable to the other side she is outright misrepresents what they believe, giving them more cover than they deserve and its frustrating to listen to.

Sometimes is even better to tell equvivalent story. For example, if guy says he in past 2 months had seggs with 4 woman and they are stole something from him, every single person would make same points as Destiny says. They would be saying: you are cleraly pincking very bad woman, not all woman are like that; it would be better to show man how to pick good woman instead of just shouting "WOMAN SHOULD STOP STEALING"; he should not engage in casual seggs if that happens often because it is very rare situation etc etc

      To be clear, I don't think destiny does fall on either extreme, he's also in the middle. And also note, I don't think being maximally PC is the most effective way to change people's behavior either. It does come off as disingenuous and virtue signally. However, with all the talking heads we love so much having the pretense of trying to convince other people to modify their behavior or beliefs, it seems like it would be in their best interest to use the language that is most effective in a given situation/audience. If you literally just don't care at all what/how people perceive what's being said and just like being in the space to say things and fight for the sake of fighting, that's fine too. "The world isn't all rainbows," while true, isn't a constructive way to have conversations. Again, specifically if your goal is to convince people to change their behavior. People aren't entitled to have you not offend them. But the more you can mitigate that while not compromising your position to do so, the more effective of a communicator you'll be. He even says this "I don't have a formula we draw these ARBITRARY distinctions like this fairly frequently". So from his OWN words, the threshold ABSOLUTELY will change. If he can't give a precise line then the slippery slope is NOT a fallacy, it is the reality! What prevents the slippery slope from being illogical is the existence of hard standards, hard lines. i mean destiny is acting like anyone takes issue with his general promotion of personal responsibility wrt sex. of course one should be able to express boundaries w sexual partners-and if they can’t, they should refrain from casual sex.
      that’s not really the concern here. that’s the kind of advice you give to someone who can’t speak up when they’re uncomfortable with their partner, say, spontaneously choking them, or pulling their hair.
      stealthing is a direct transgression of an established boundary. when you begin sex wearing a condom, there is the implicit agreement that it remains on until completion (obviously), and so a stealthing situation is akin to specifying with a partner: “don’t choke me,” and having them choke you regardless. there are rules outlining a consensual, sexual interaction and those rules are deliberately broken.
      it’s not really difficult to understand how this would make a considerably smaller and weaker sexual partner feel unsafe speaking up, and it’s extremely stupid of destiny to pretend the onus is on the woman to simply “pick better” in these circumstances.

    • @idkhbtfmandnowimsad994
      @idkhbtfmandnowimsad994 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@deep_and_profound_topics The point is to express the boundary. If from there, the person still ignores that, then that is not the fault of anyone but that person. I think the point is to just have the standard of speaking up because that can reduce the chance of a person being raped.

    45:55 I personally don't really care about what Destiny says on Twitter, but I think even he would agree that "appearing to be a good person" is arguably more important than "being a good person" if most of your influence comes from the internet, as Destiny's does. It's the entire reason telling jokes in private vs public is even an argument he's made many times. Whether or not he's good to people privately seems pretty irrelevant to this topic.

    • @WanderTheNomad
      @WanderTheNomad 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea, appearing to be a good person can help people get behind whatever you're saying more easily. You need both to provide good change.
      If you only appear to be good, then you can lead a bunch of people down a horrible cause.

    It seems like the only thing that can be a fair criticism is that Twitter might not be the best platform to do edgy comments/responses, even if completely justified, as 280 character bursts doesn't lend well to nuance or productive conversations.
