- According to our camera, it's too cold to operate normally! Winter narrowboating can be beautiful if you wrap up warm! Today we take a trip from Engine Lock on the Caldon Branch of the Trent and Mersey Canal to the Leek Branch and the end of its navigable arm.
Colin discovers the transhipment base at Endon Basin, a disused railway that could see trains going to Alton Towers, and floats the idea of opening an ice cream booth in the middle of the Caldon Canal.

Happy New Year Gentlemen. Apologies for my confusion. I took it that Amazon Prime Video (nice budgets for Jaffa Cakes and more) was involved with Project Evolve. Shaun, I just wanted to offer my sympathies on the loss of your father.....I know it's a few months in the past at this point. I'm watching your vlogs in order and just watched that one this morning. I've lost both of my parents and no matter how old a person is, it makes you feel very lonely and a bit like an orphan. It's nice to see in this vlog that you're smiling and laughing more. I'm very happy that both of you have recovered from being sick and I wish you a wonderful spring! By the way, I love your vlogs, both commentary and photography and look forward to many more !

This is so true. My dad passed in 2005 and my mom in 2013. I remember standing at the foot of my mothers grave at 49 years old feeling like an orphan. It’s so hard. Bless you Shaun.

I laughed that you describe Long Butts lift bridge as 'old school', for me an old school lift bridge means a length of rope or chain hanging off the counterweight, possibly even needing a hooked shaft to reach it!
Well, the winding mechanism has a date marked on it of 1841. I think that qualifies as old school 😂
Your camera work and historical reference clips keep amazing me. I never have to imagine what you're talking about and then the sublime, completely unnecessary, quiet moments you add in of machinery at work, etc... are the hallmarks that make you a true artist. It's truly top shelf work, you two must be proud.

Otis will be able to tell you about everywhere he has been... he pays more attention to the world passing by than a student swating for his geography exam.... such a wondereful sight seeing him joining you in soaking in the scenery (and smells in his case). That (out of shot) house on the bend at Hazlehurst bridge is the one I am buying when i win the lottery.... the owners dont know it yet so dont tell them.

Used to Live between Engine Hose Lock and Stockton Brook The canal was part of our Playground. And the little Ice cream Parlour Island was near the School I went to... great memories thanks )))))))

I've only just found you guys this week. Love you two , and Otis , RIP Dillon 😢 Brilliant and so funny . I've been in covid jail for 9 months now as I have COPD . Missed all my gigs this year as they were cancelled or postponed 😢😢😢 holiday cancelled 😢😢😢 if I won the lottery I would definitely go down the canal barge route , what lovely life ❤❤❤

Once again nice little video and I love the local history input. It would be good to see you guy's on a travel channel or UK main stream TV there are lots more interesting programs on train journeys , Lost railway walks and yes there has been one or two canal cruising programs one was Timothy West and his lovely wife that was the best of them. And I for one would love to see more. It would give people ideas for stay cations which would help the local economy after this terrible year we have had.
Maybe one day, although we've turned down a few TV offers 😉
Oh! that's a shame! Can I ask why? That more publicity canal travel gets maybe the tourist industry might put more money into canals. This could be the new form of eco tourism.

It was good to see you both doing better. The scenery was stunning. Looks like a canal that you can just stay in. When you showed the abandoned rail line I thought it would be great to have a old steam engine on it. The start of the Mighty Mississippi River looks like a wet ditch, it’s always amazing to see how the river starts and what it becomes

You guys are living my dream.....Well my dream has come to a screaming halt due to CV 19, Lived in the UK for 3 and a half years while serving in the US Navy attached to the Royal Navy At HMS Durham. And living in Suffolk village one of the last fugal villages in the UK. I miss old England, it History and its people. I love the way you all describe the history and explain the history of places as you travel. A lot of Narrowboat blogs do not. Keep up the great work and be safe. Wouldn't it be lovely to dig some more canal back into that area and rejuvenate the town with a canal running onto the centre? Sigh. An unlikely scenario but it has been done by other areas. Hey Guys... You're both looking much better. Happy Days!!!! Was able to follow your progress along the Caldon Canal, on my canal map, as I watched this morning. The golden light hour images are wonderful . Even though its a winter time landscape, it still has it's own beauty.
As for the filled in Barnsfield Aqueduct - the town of Leeks might consider building a large marina in the space which is now paved over, just beyond the canal. Later they can consider if they want to build an new canal into the center of town.
Bundle up. Stay warm. Oh, by the way Collin, I really appreciate your narratives of the areas through which you are traveling; the history; showing old photos of what was. For me, it just adds more interest and depth to your vlogs.

By the way the white duck @ 4:50 is a Muscovy Duck that originated in South America and are now all over the world, not just the UK, they are in Australia and New Zealand but interbreeding with local geese and ducks have bred a multitude of variants
