Thanks for the video. We’ve got an ‘07 and had trouble with some part that bent while putting the top down. It cost more than a little to have it fixed. But it was worth it, as my wife and I think these are about as cool a looking convertible as you can find.
This video helped a lot thanks man! I have a 2007 Eclipse and it was my first time opening my top in 2 years and it got stuck. I grabbed a pair of pliers and did the manual release and it worked.
Thank you so much for this video I was putting in to a Walmart when my top decided not to close I was in a panic until I searched up this video thank you so much dude it’s the end of November thanks👌👌👌👌👌
Wife has an 07 version of this car. I’m trying to remove the hinges that are leaking hydronic fluid. I’ve already had one of the cylinders rebuilt. On her car there 6 cylinders and the two hinges. Getting the hinges out are posing to be very difficult to remove. On the 07 model there was no aux jack. I had to remove the stereo and add the cable myself. Also also, my cat sleeps in the same exact place.
I never could find a good video so just started removing things and taking pictures. First one took about an hour and a half ( drivers side). The other one took 30-45 min once I knew what I was doing. Sent them off to get rebuilt. Let’s see how long it takes to install. Lot to removed. Even the two panels from inside the car back seat. I do a lot of work on my cars so have bunches of tools. It helped a lot.
Great video, never considered these but may jump on the idea of getting one. Was debating on hardtop/convertible option and this video helps take some good pointers into consideration.
Good to know. I bought a 2001 eclipse that was supposed to be in good condition and it's been a major disaster since I bought it. Bought it from an elderly couple who claimed the widow's husband bought it before he died and that her and her boyfriend only cranked it up on the weekend and drove it around the neighborhood, but they lied. Even rolled over 20,000 miles back. First and last time I will ever buy from a private seller. But in case the care is salvageable to any degree, these are good tips to know.
Just fixed my top on my 12 spider Mitsubishi. Wouldn't close all the way.opened the to half way and found a loose bolt in the middle of the track. So happy, now I don't have to drive 50 miles to the dealer to fix. Hope this helps anyone with similar issues.
sweet. my 2008 top is not opening for a while. I took it to a few places and conclusion is water dripped into the car through the back window and damaged the engine that opens/closes the top. Now I "need" a new top and engine. Upholstery guy i took the car to said the Eclipses are really "finiquie"? to make new tops to, so he recommended taking to Mitsubishi, who discontinued fixing/replacing it. I'm in ATL Georgia, do any of you have tips on where to go to get a top (does not need to be new, just in decent condition) and the engine to work the open/close mechanism? thanks!!!

Thanks for this video ! I have a 2009 Eclipse and wondered about the Aux. What is that cheap module called that you bought online? I would like to order one so I can ply music through my phone. Thank you again.
Hi thank you for enjoying my video. I don't remember the exact name of the module I bought, but it's basically a 12 volt plug-in with a Bluetooth 3.5 mm jack plug. you can find them everywhere on Amazon
For that repair I have no idea. I would take it a Mitsubishi mechanic. They should know that question and what to do. It may be a simple fix, I just have no idea how to do it
@@woodbrassandglass thanks for your response.. the latch that you opened in the back for the emergency manual close, the place to refill the hydraulic fluid isn't in that compartment??
The hydraulic cylinder that lifts the back cover up is leaking oil. Is it a sealed system? Can I add oil somewhere? It goes really slow and growing, just like low oil. Help!! Lol, any more ideas?
If it's leaking oil, you've most likely burst a seal. If you have friend who specializes in hydraulics take it there. Otherwise the car dealership is my advice
Hi I came across your video and it was the best that I have seen on reviews. I actually took time out on this Sunday morning to spread my angel wings & to share your link with others through another video. Before I purchase this car tomorrow on Monday December 21st can u please let me know if this kind of car has too many issues & if it's worth buying or not.
I would buy this car over 100 times. It's the funnest I've ever had. It's only a weekend driver. But I totally enjoy it! I believe the real issue I faced with the top not closing was because it was so cold and it wouldn't work. Once it got sunny it worked fine. And has worked fine ever since. So beware of cold temps when opening or closing it.
Hi:). I've nevrr drove a 2008. However I don't believe the difference are that much compare to a 2012. Cosmetic only. I would absolutely buy this car over again. I purchased it 5 years ago in cash and do not regret it at all.
Do you know if they ever switched the knob back after you were able to close the top. I just closed the top using this technique and now the open and close switches register and the windows go down also hear the motor but nothing happens and the t bar mechanism doesn’t move when either open or Closed button is pressed
@@woodbrassandglass Sorry maybe I worded that weirdly. So I followed your steps to close the top manually but I didn't turn back the knob back clockwise that holds the pressure before I pressed the close button which sealed the top. Now my open and close button registers like its working and I hear the motor moving but nothing happens and Im wondering if it was because I didn't turn back the knob which controls the pressure.
@@onlyheavenknows It could be it. I only was able to fix my issue because it was too cold out in the top head issues because of constriction due to cold. Once it warmed up in the day the top worked. Your issue sounds like an entire different solution is needed. It may be worthwhile to stop by a mechanic to have them look at it. It could be extremely simple. Take care
I had the same issue until I was able to get it to work again. My recommendation is until it is repaired and working use a car cover made for the Mitsubishi eclipse or park it under an awning or car covering. Or put a tarp over it:)
I also have a leaky cylinder. Not sure if these a replaceable, since it looks like a special tool is required to attached the lines on both ends. Does any one know about this?
I too have had similar things happen. I would check to make sure the trunk is shut. Both doors are shut. Also check to make sure the latches are unlatched. Somewhere a sensor is telling the computer that it's not safe to open the top.
So many dealer reps do not know many of things tips/tricks/mysteries that you revealed here so a big THANK YOU for the insight!
My favorite part was when you yelled at the warning on thr lid and said it is an emergency. I had to watch that a couple times
I learned so much about my car from this. Thank you

Yes they are stock seats. I recently had them reupholstered with red marine grade vinyl.

You may need a full replacement. Probably best to take it to a shop. Hydraulics can get bad really fast...:(
