    At 7:57 there is another male surf scoter, the bottom right bird in the frame.

      Travelling atm so I can't check, but I'm sure you're right! I think it shows up a couple of times before I finally zone in on it 😁

    Ugh seeing a cardinal in the midst of winter ❤ As one of your western viewers that is a gift

    Yahoo on the scoter. I wish I had a boat to go farther in the water to see more water fowl. I still need a good picture of a Loon any Loon I would be happy.

    • @BritHikesOntario
      @BritHikesOntario  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We've had luck with Loons within bays of the Great Lakes, so they're a bit closer in. And on some smaller more Northern Lakes in "cottage country". But yeah, a boat helps. When I've been put fishing, they'll come right up to the boat and even swim underneath. Pretty cool.

    I do look forward to your videos. Each time I watch I count how many of the birds seen would be lifers for me if I had been there. In this case, it is about eleven. Glad you got the surf scoter.

      Thank you, appreciate the support and kind words. When I see lifer birds in a different location, it makes me itchy to go there!

      @@BritHikesOntario You are so welcome. Thank you too. I feel the same way especially those far away locations. I must go birding in N.America some day as opportunity affords. I am also following a birder/youtuber whose channel is called stormcabirds. I recommend it if you haven't already seen it. Best wishes

    Congrats on the surf scoter! Good luck in the next few weeks! I know birding has gotten a lot more challenging inland with the water all freezing. Good to be near a Great Lake!!

      I've been off work for a bit while Sara is still working and I've birded off camera a few times. Aside from waterfowl, it's been dead quiet.

      One closer and we are setting off on our last big trip of the year this evening (driving the long trek to Sax-zim Bog). Let's see if we can get everything we need.

    t the inlet just down from my home, there are literally hundreds scattered everywhere. Also I have had Barrow's Goldeneyes hanging around there for about two weeks now.

      Depending how things go over the next couple of weeks, we might be desperate for a Barrow's 😂

    I have a bird feeder outside and am in your neck of the woods more or less. I have pairs of birds coming that look like blue jays but are more gray than blue. They're large, come to feed in pairs and sound like jays. If these are rare, please let me know and I'll send pictures and let you know where they are.

    Hi Stu, I've been enjoying your 300 Bird Challenge series. Would you mind sharing what you are using for a camera harness? How do you feel about the one you use now? I want to get one for myself (or a Christmas present!). Thanks for anything you can share.

    • @BritHikesOntario
      @BritHikesOntario  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hey, no problem. It's called a Cotton Carrier and I believe the model is the G3. You can get it direct or on Amazon etc...
      It was actually a Christmas gift from Sara a couple of years ago. I highly recommend it. It almost completely removes any sense of weight when you carry it on the harness compared to in your hand. It's a massive help and I don't bird without it. It comes with an attachment for the camera on the front and you can get an option attachment for the side. I use this for binoculars. It could be used for a second, lightweight camera.

      @@BritHikesOntario Thanks so much for the info. I'm a pretty casual, very amateur birder/photographer and have had my 500 mm Nikon telephoto lens for a while but haven't got the use of it just because it's been a pain to lug around to my local birding spots in and around Tampa, FL. Cotton Carrier just went on my Christmas wish list. Good luck on hitting your 300 and love the videos.

      Crested Caracara is the one that hurts the most! American Pipit, Northern Bobwhite, Virginia Rail are some others that spring to mind.
      The next couple of weeks in particular (we're currently off work) will make or break it 😬😁
