- "Oinam" unveils the socio-political sitaution in the Northeast India, in particular Nagaland. The album called the Songs of Liberation was recorded and produced by Takatemjen @ 1989 Written in the context of Northeast India, the songs have to do with peace and harmony in the region. The female voice in all the songs of the album is my sister Mrs Watila Jamir.
This Song entitled Oinam is based on a true story that took place in 1987. at OINAM, Manipur.
Words: Wati Aier/ Last Chorus: Takatemjen; Music: Takatemjen and Sung by Takatemjen and Watila Jamir. The album called the Songs of Liberation was recorded in 1989 and was dedicated for the cause of liberty, equality and brotherhood. Written in the context of Northeast India, the songs have to do with peace and harmony in the region. The female voice in all the songs of the album is my sister Mrs Watila Jamir.

When I was a kid, I loved this song for its beautiful melody without much heed or realisation to the message of the song. Today, as a husband and a father myself, I can't stop tearing up with a heavy and broken heart at what horror our people had to go through in Oinam.
May this song once again rekindle in our hearts a sense of unity and perseverance as we continue to strive for what's rightfully ours.

Today marks the 35th anniversary of the infamous Operation Bluebird - the worse nightmare of inhuman action done by the Indian security forces that obliterated hundreds of thousands of people. "It was a nightmare that occurred in broad daylight. A nightmare that did not occur in dreamland but at Oinamland. The Operation was a hellish experience for the victims, a horrific drama for the eyewitnesses, a melancholic melody for singers, a tragic novel for writers, an elegiac poem for poets, a sad story for the listeners, and shocking news to the world" (Isaac Varay, 2019, youthkiawaaz).
I was too young to remember the nightmare and the shame that happened to my people, Oinam Hill. However, elders, parents, books and songs bring me to the real picture of operation bluebird which I couldn't remember but I could feel it.
Thanks to our revered leaders Mr Wati Aier and Mr Takatemjen, this song always makes me cry in silence.
