Rick Allen lost his arm when he rolled his Corvette on New Years Eve (1984-85 if memory serves) Fortunately, his drum tracks for Hysteria had already been recorded. But rather than find a new drummer, they spent more than a year on hiatus while Rick Allen learned to play a special one-arm drum kit. It was super high-tech for its day. The album was held up by that and various other delays until spring of 1987.

    More fun facts...
The band needed one more track to complete the "Hysteria" album. They were on a break from recording & having lunch in a diner when the inspiration for "Pour some sugar on me" hit & they wrote it on a napkin in about 3 min. Then returned to the studio to lay it down... They were already pretty popular, but when that song hit their popularity soared to new heights.

Hello Mr. Video! This is my generation music. The music, the clothes, the hair, dance clubs, concerts, rock music, pop music. Such a fun time to be young, pretty and in love. Def Leppard was a must see concert. The band themselves went through some heavy tragic times. The drummer was in an awful car wreck that threw him from the car so violently, that the seatbelt severed his arm. Determined and with support from the band, his drums were reconfigured with an extra pedal to supplement his missing arm. He had to learn to play all over. As you can see he did it. Also the blonde guitarist in the blue jacket that was playing with one hand, died of alcohol poisoning. His addiction took his life. Phil Collen, the shorter guy picked up his role. Phil was good but Steve Clark was a classically trained musician who contributed to the song writing. Lastly, their concerts were quite an event. The legend is that under the stage was a great room where the orgies with band groupies took place during the concert. Funny to listen to old interviews. The band didn’t take much seriously back then. The 80s were about decadence. But soon the AIDS epidemic squashed that back. Please try more 60s, 70s and 80s. I promise it will change your life!
Thanks, Mr. Video! ❤️. Great reaction.

Excellent song REACTION!Greatest Band ever, in my opinion!!!! I've seen Def Leppard 3 times in concert. I remember crying when the drummer got in a car wreck that took his arm! When we fans knew he trained to use his feet to drum, that made their concerts even more important, to show our drummer support and respect for all his hard work. Best was the Hysteria.concert at Castle Farms, in East Jordan, Michigan! First time ever seeing the most amazing laser light show! I can remember it to this day! My son knew how much I loved the band when i took him for his 14th birthday(he's 30 now) to see Def Leppard. Then when he got married, this song- was the song he chose special for the mother/son dance! Not for the words so much as the music was GREAT to dance to! Anyhow... Favorite songs are Photograph, Gods of War, Animal...all of their music is Amazing!! Def Leppard is live next month (October) in Grand Rapids, Michigan! Thank you for your reaction to my ALL TIME FAVORITE BAND! The BEATLES was the British invasion for my momma & Def Leppard was the British invasion in 80's!! R.I.P. STEVE!!

Here’s a fact. Their drummer was involved in a car accident which ripped his arm off. They tried to save it but it got infected. So he had one arm and in the hospital he learnt to play with one arm and played all future concerts with one arm. To perfection !!!!!! British northern band and they’re amazing

React to Def Leppard rock of ages live 1988 in the round! The drummer has one arm, he lost it in a car crash in 1984 after their 3rd album Pyromania. They came back 3 years later and Rick was back on drums and re invented the way he played. Hysteria(1987) sold 25M copies and is one of the best selling albums of all time

You should listen to Photograph & Pour Some Sugar on me. I kept waiting for you to notice something about the drummer, but you didn't catch it. You'll eventually see it & it's gonna blow your mind.

Okay, Okay, you really gonna do this? This is such a throw back for me. I can't wait to see your reaction. And now you know the sound a one arm drummer makes.

Excellent concert! I saw them in Billings, MT. With Tesla and REO! I had tickets for Spokane WA they were to play with ZZ Top! That concert was canceled because of Corona Viruse. 😭
