Awesome! these pro moves you expertly executed will be brilliant for me currently to take notes on. I've honed my flight skills using all your tips and I really appreciate being under your wing no pun intended. I love this little bird very much thanks for all your excellent work!
Outstanding tutorial! Very clearly explained. I always dreamt about being a red arrows pilot after watching them in the 80's as a child, at least now I can try in this sim and aircraft!
Many thanks for another great video. It really gives an insight to the skills and techniques required of pilots who make this look easy. I can't imagine attempting this with 8 other aircraft in close proximity, even in the sim and the comfort of my front room.
I bought this plane a couple days ago. I was so proud of myself when I was finally able to safely land the Hawk with panic-free regularity while reckoning by the seat of my pants in VR. 😂 Thanks for showing me the trick. The Hawk is definitely my jam. It's so cool and unusual that I immediately fell in love with it. Did the RAF sell any of them off to private pilots after they phased them out of active service?
Hi there. Another quality video, nice work. 👍🏼 A former Hawk pilot? Im typically not an envious man…..until I am. You’re very fortunate. A few questions: 1) what are those tubes going through the canopy? Defrosters? Why don’t other aircraft have them? 2) as someone who has flown the Hawk IRL, how do you think this measures up in general handling characteristics and feel to the real thing? Is there anything you want improved or find very inaccurate in its modeling?
Tubes in canopy = MDC: Military Det Cord. It shatters the canopy on ejection to let the seat through. Some aircraft use MDC, some jettison the canopy first and thus doesn’t need MDC. Handling wise, it’s pretty darn good! The only issue is the spin characteristics. This is a current limitation of MSFS as they don’t really model swept wings very well!
Excellent Chris! more for me to learn. Out of interest have you done the acrobatics in a real Hawk? Also have you flown with the reds? Fair enough if your unable to answer. Right on to my next video of yours Thank you Andy
Wow. The graphics not only on flight simulators but on computer games generally, are so good that pretty soon it will be difficult to differentiate between a simulation and reality. It begs the very much pondered question further, from a quantum physical view point, is our perception of our mere existence reality or a simulation? Are you a pilot yourself? It seems as if you need to be in order to operate these simulators. I am not a gamer myself. Great channel, by the way!
Amazing work Chris! Thank you for producing these wonderful videos. The presentation and walk through of the different maneuvers is very clear and concise and very easy to understand. It gives me a fair amount of confidence to put together a display of my own that looks good. I look forward to seeing the next video. 👍😁
Chris, great consistent work as usual. It was good to see Inverness again, I was based at Fort George in 2001-2 and recall the Reds coming in to a run and break landing at Inverness airport. Good to see when sat on the battlements of the fort. Do you ever get to do any real world flying nowadays? (front seat!). I look forward to some more low level stuff in the Alps....far easier to be a hooligan in MSFS. 😉
Now that was smart! Being able to see how you break it down, and then watch it altogether was immense! So much info in each manoeuvre. Once again thank you very much Sir. This is something I'm definitely gonna be having a shot at over my local airport which is Prestwick 👍🏻 (of course here's hoping UK2000 or someone else can do a makeover of the airfield first of all so I can do it some justice)!
@@cgaviator Certainly is. Just a shame there's not much happens at the airfield. Maybe all change soon though if they get the go ahead with the Spaceport. Could be interesting times ahead.
Thank you! I was literally coming back to your channel to find Part 1, which I watched a week or so ago, to ask if you could cover doing a barrel roll. :) Apologies if this is covered in your equipment list, I couldn't find it, but do you use VR or TrackIR?
Any chance you'll do a video on the Scottish Aviation Bulldog (from BlackBox Simulations) that came out a few days ago? And do some aerobatics with commentary?
Great video and fantastic flying, well executed manoeuvres! Cant' wait for Asobo to add Tower/Fly-By views so that we can watch this from the ground and have, essentially, a proper airshow display 👍
It can be done with FS Playground but sadly it produces a slightly stuttery replay. I hope the Dev mode playback function works better in the next release
A Derry Turn is a steep turn in one direction for 45 degrees reducing bank to let the nose climb, rolling underneath and completing the turn in the other direction. I’m guessing a wingover version would involve a climb. Maybe there’s room for a 3rd aeros hawk video! 😄
Loved this as much as the last aerobatics vid. And love the hawk. When I try loops or rolls I loose all three inverters and the gen. I can re-start them but I can’t work out what l’m doing wrong. I’ve read the manual but I’m at a loss now. Any idea what I might be doing wrong please.
Yup, I had this once. In fact when I started this video it happened. Do you assign switches for engine start, GPU etc? Check that nothing is triggering a restart. You could delete these assignments and see if that helps.
Lovely tutorial Chris, thank you... Have you ever tried DCS by Eagle Dynamics? Although I do own and fly MSFS, I have to admit that DCS is my go to SIM. Seeing your Mach Loop and Hawk Aerobatic videos is making me really want to get that Hawk (I have the T45 Goshawk, but it's a bit too high tech).
I do like the simpler aircraft! I have the T45 and it doesn't feel half as nimble as the Hawk model. I have DCS but don't often fly it due to the scenery, and how complex each aircraft is!
I can’t remember precisely but I believe it allows them to control speed while having the power steady. Airbrake is easier to match with the leader than him changing his power setting.
I think also that the air brake is sometimes used to allow high power settings and slow speed for a much denser smoke effect. The Frecce Tricolori use this to great effect when they paint the Italian flag across the airfield.
It’s there, under setup. Click see more on description and scroll down. On the website check the 2021 build post. Let me know if you have no luck, I’ll post a link.
Another great vid Chris...thanks! Edit!..On your website you mention that the JF Hawk is in your top 3 favourite aircraft for fs2020, can I ask what the other 2 are?
Thank you for the video. Question: obviously a sim cannot recreate the feel of a fast jet fully, but I just wondered whether you felt Just Flight have done a good job of simulating the handling of the Hawk? i.e. roll rates, gaining/losing speed etc. Thank you.
@@cgaviator Just came back to this video - love it. Another question if I may - does the RAF have a specific sequence that they teach to students? if so, are they similar to the above?
@@rutchiemctavish no specific sequence, they’re taught individual manoeuvres, Demo’d how to link them, then it’s up to them to create a sequence and adapt it to the weather etc.
1980x1020 I believe. Everything is ultra. I used to have a 980Ti which did a fine job on High settings but would not have lived up to multitasking alongside other apps. 3070 is more than enough for this sim!
Yep I stayed with you until the end! I just discovered you a few days ago, and subscribed! I also bought the brilliant JF Hawk 3 days ago. Since the release of FS in Aug 2020, I flew mostly the Extra, and I like the spot landing challenges as well (managed top 10 a few times). Fortunately, the Extra has been improved in SU6, but not perfect yet. On approach the Extra never wants to slow down, so I must glide for a while until it will settle on a runway. *I am coming to the Hawk soon...* This is what I can do with the Extra. I like mountain aerobatics, in small valleys, because you don't have the real horizon, so you must be careful and watch the instruments as well, with settings Hard: th-cam.com/video/kLzXM_RyDQs/w-d-xo.html Now back to the Hawk: 2 questions: 1. Unlike the Extra, the JF Hawk slows down down very fast with gear down and full flaps, so I must put quite a lot of throttle to avoid stalling. *Is this the case in the real Hawk as well?* I have the Extra in my DNA now, so I have to be careful in the Hawk. 2. I have my settings as Hard. In the JF Hawk, it's very easy to over G; there is no warning, just a black end screen saying I overstressed the aircraft. Is this a bug in the JF Hawk, as I guess the real Hawk would protect from that. I am from Switzerland, but lives in London, UK, hence I like flying in Switzerland: Here, where I grew up, the scenery is brilliant (heavy landing, I must be more generous on the throttle!): th-cam.com/video/Uj4BkkzXVdo/w-d-xo.html Here, in Meiringen, Axalp, Sphinx observatory, Matterhorn: th-cam.com/video/Bzl-KVpfV0E/w-d-xo.html
Good questions! The drag is very nicely simulated. As soon as you drop gear and flap below 200kt you need to anticipate applying 87-89% RPM to hold 150kt. The leave the power when you start your final approach but select full flap. Works a treat! Just like real! I always monitor the G meter when I start my pull up for manoeuvres. I’ve got a good feel from my extended warthog joystick so that makes it easier. Whilst you can over g the real thing, and it doesn’t actually protect you from over g, you have to be grossly aggressive with the stick. It’s difficult to perceive G onset in the sim. I’m thinking that may be the main issue for some. Hope that helps 👍🏻
@@cgaviator Ah Thank you Chris for the reply. OK for the approach. This is very helpful. I do monitor the G meter, but I have an old AV8R stick from ~2008, and it moves sometimes a bit too much. If I cut the end of pitch up in Sensitivity, I won't have enough up elevator at low speeds. I need something that stops huge deflections at higher speeds... I know many sticks, and first watch videos of product failures before I buy. I saw ~ 2 years ago that the Warthog had problems of "stiction" with some users, so waited. I like the Virpil controls too, but I would like to physically try them before buying, like in the old days. The Goshawk from IndiaFoxtEcho doesn't have an over G problem: it seems the aircraft protects from that... Something you may find interesting: I follow a real French Air Force pilot, ATE CHUET, who did the demo at Yeovilton (here in French: th-cam.com/video/aUjeccnjBFM/w-d-xo.html), he does have videos in English too.
