Ben how does it work with peregrines? Do peregrines go for those types of traps? I don’t know anything about traps as it’s illegal in my country but I’m curious if peregrines would go on a trap? It doesn’t seem to me like something a peregrine would go for but I think that just may be because I’ve never seen or heard of anyone trapping or talking about trapping peregrines with that method.

This trap wouldn’t be very effective for a peregrine due to their hunting style and prey. Kestrels naturally sit on easily accessible points to trap them like the line in this video or a telephone pole while a peregrine usually soars way above in less accessible areas. I suppose it would be possibly to try to trap a peregrine with this trap and some birds inside as opposed to mice but overall the bal chatri trap works the best for redtails, kestrels, and sometimes Cooper’s hawks.

A pigeon harness or dho-gazza would do you better.

Hey Ben love all your videos! I haven’t seen any on your mews or housing for you birds. A video on that would be helpful.

I helped a friend trap with a bal-chatri in his pursuit of a kestrel a few years ago. It was exciting and fun... it got dynamic when a redtail landed on it. Fortunately, he didn't get hooked.

Is there a sure fire way to tell a passage kestrel from a hag? The only guide I ever seen is in the banding on the tail of a female passage is different than a hag. I have no idea how you determine a male hag from a passage

So the publisher is working on reprinting it, but the new edition is not out yet. But outside of my publisher, other people are still selling old copies online, if you just look up “Trapping Essentials” by Ben Woodruff

@@thelastfalconer I spoke with the publisher last week, 2nd edition is actively being printed now. The biggest complaint I have heard about the 1st edition is missing measurements on many items.

I was curious about that. Just curious, I have no desire to take on the responsibility of a bird at my age. Thanks
