The two wraps to hold the material initially are just soft placing wraps so the stuff can be splayed. Un-wrap & Re Wrap is to keep the tie out tidy, locking the wraps for forward and backward wraps so the material becomes locked, gives a nice hackled effect to the material.
The Ostrich is Montana Fly Company. They high grade it for Steelhead guys. I think trout guys prefer the fluffy stuff for Ray Charles and flies like that. Northwest carries the product...does sell fast could be a hunt!
It is a simple tie with those ingredients. Is there a purpose for unwrapping the six wraps and re-wrapping? I assume it may be for the weight because a couple of more wraps should do the same thing. Am I wrong? I really would like to know since I have seen you do it often in your creations. All the best, Sean
he put on herl on a few bits a tie to see what it looks like when he is happy then he unwrapped and. holds it light then fall in place and round the tube makes it look like it was wrapped in like hackles in stead put a few bits at time plus you get a neater head with less bulk thats what I think he means sean

What size shank would you use for this fly?
The MFC Factory uses a 40mm on the commercial version, but a 35mm would be good too.
If you buy this fly, how much would it cost?
We sell them on shanks from MFC for $3.99 each
