Yeah, im going to take a very simple business model to this. The market is over saturated. To compete, you need to be able to buy up market share. How do you buy market share? By under binding your competitor. What makes you better than the competition? Better quality at a better price. That drives the sales and takes the oxygen outta the room. Make leases cheap af keep your teir program, but make it easy to enter the program. $25 mp3 $45 wav. $75 track stems $100 exclusives. If you're making 30 beats a month over 3k is no problemo
While that makes sense, if you’re selling through dm, no one buys upfront. This means you’ll need to follow up with hundred of artists to get a few to buy. If you’re selling with Zoom like I do, 1 out of 3 buy regardless of my pricing. This means you need to sell 10x the amount of artists. Generating 100 sales calls a month is way harder. Lastly, no one who claims to be the best also charges the least. This means they’ll think your quality is lower automatically just off your pricing. If you charge a lot, it fixes all the problems. I work 20 hours a week and make way more than 3k. Hope that helps fam.
@samplesource6566 for sure it does make sense, but consider the artist prospective as well. Now they have to drop quite often, what is the popular thing now? Once a week, twice a month? That's a lot of beat purchases. A major problem is exclusive prices. Mainly due to the fact they have to garner a ton of streams to make each purchase back for each track and for 99% of indie artist that is a non doable on every track. So they too find different revenue streams. Clothing and apparel, subscription for early access, physical sales, mixing and mastering etc. And that's IF they have the fan base to support it. Without exclusives you can't attempt to sync license etc. And fighting with 100 others over the same beat and copyrights gets sticky. Most are opting to purchase loops and create their own due to the high pricing. I understand your point. But just cause a beat is double in price does not mean it's twice as good.
You’re assuming a lot brother. I’ve worked with hundreds of artists and most don’t drop even close to once a week. Also, most don’t make their own beats. And of course doubling the price doesn’t make it better, it’s positioning our brand as premium. Most artists don’t want my offer, and that’s fine with me. But the 1% that do will pay premium for it. That means I work with less artists, but I’ll make way more money than a producer selling cheap stuff. You can sell a $5,000 album, or you can sell 500 leases. Which is harder? Selling to 1 artist or 500? I don’t want to work with every artist, and I also don’t want to be broke, so that’s why I chose this business model.

I run a manufacturing company and sales. The giant game changer was the volume we pushed when we switched to bulk vs. individual sales. We bought up the market share in our niche.
