I just saw a follow up to this story. A wonderful man and wife, who own Discount Fence (I'm assuming in the same area in Michigan), saw this scumbag's story on Rob's report and installed ALL the fences for the people in this story at cost to the company, meaning NO labor charges and NO installation costs. Yes, they lost their deposits to this scumbag, but at least they did get fences put up and at the company's cost. Wow. Wonderful people and they did it because they realized she was ripping them off - even if the fences HAD been installed - with those prices, but mostly because they felt horrible for them and wanted the community to know there ARE reputable businesses out there. KUDOS to Discount Fence.

What they did was not only commendable but they executed high quality work swiftly from what I’ve been told; which couldn’t have happened w/o Rob & Hall of Shame. I’m aware a few jobs were done at no cost while others were offered installs at an incredibly low, generous rate. I was not reached out to, but understandably. A yr had lapsed so we completed our gate & fence prior to the story airing. At current: She has lost something like a dozen+ civil suits that she (by all appearances) has chosen to ignore. She has plead not guilty to a now staggering ❗️10 FELONY COUNTS❗️ (at one point 11 or 12 counts acc to victim statements/public records.) It will soon be a year since we won our case(s) yet we (along w/ MANY others) have still not received the judgments she was ordered to pay. I’ve been enduring this for almost 2yrs total, others even longer.. Thank you Discount Fence for being an example of honest business & pride in our community 🙏🏼
Write reviews to help out others. For customers, read reviews and never give more than cost of materials until they start work. Or pay for the materials directly then structure payments in stages as work goes along. I had siding put on my house and paid as they went along. I did not follow their payment structure after the project started having problems. I owed so much by the end of the project they had to come out and fix all the problems to get the rest of their money. And I took photos all along the way, I followed up with emails whenever we had a conversation to make sure we were on the same page. When they started messing up, I posted reviews with photos and copies of our email conversations. They got right very quickly.

Then I went to the police station, and a cop somehow got a hold of him, maybe he saw caller ID from Police, and he answered his call. I got my work done, but I had used Angie's list to find a good contractor. You never know who you can trust!!!!
When picking a contractor do your home work and ask people did work for them,and never ever pay a contractor in full until the job is completed and some times inspected.
Why are people so dumb, I never pay until a job is completed.... If the company is that broke you definitely don't want to deal with them because you'll wind up just like this

I am a contractor in Oregon. My policy is to ask for $500.00 deposit to schedule your job. You make three progress payments until the job is done. If you stop paying, I stop working. Anyone asking for more then 25% of total project cost upfront is suspect.

She had a pending case with them I believe, finally got the money and started paying the people back. From what I understand the charges are being dropped. The story left out a lot of information which makes me wonder about all of those Hall of Shame stories. They conveniently left out the fact that when she was trying to give the people their money back they wouldn't have any contact with her. They also leave out the fact that she's been in business for decades, and decades prior to that through her dad's business. It's not like she just randomly opened a business and started stealing from people. She was a victim also but her lawyer advised her not to speak on it. You can tell how hard it was for her when he's accusing her of not paying people back and she has.
A rule you should never break...NEVER PAY UP FRONT !! PAY IN FULL upon satisfactory completion of the job !! I was a contractor for 16 years in Colorado and I never took a dime up front. I did however, require full payment when the work was finished and my client was satisfied with the finished job.

Bad contractors make ALL contractors look bad . We must fight to rid the system of bad contractors . Complaints , and things like that must happen . No one wants to waste money and these people should not be lead to believe they would get work done but in fact they have been tricked . That’s wrong . Never pay the full amount - I have learned that from my mom and her Roof Install for 14k.. She paid the full amount - The roof was finished. but about a year later, shingles were falling off.... I have been fixing the issues since the roof was installed... Also, never ever, NEVER EVER, got the recommendation of a neighbor or "Friend"... They always stand to make something off the deal, and your best bet is to just ignore them, and hire a reputable business owner.... I am all for small business, but these cam artists are not to be trusted...
