Almost 17 years ago, my boyfriend had to move to a different city. I was pregnant. Every time I’d visit him, I’d listen to this CD on the way home. Still hits me in the heart now, as my husband sleeps in our bed and I’ve just gotten our kids off to school.
This album saved my sanity. I'd been violently mugged and would go to bed at night thinking about why it had to be me and would wake up first thing thinking about it too. For some reason this album got me past that. It's kinda cool that this album gives everyone good thoughts. *hug* I wish ya all the best
I chose "Freedom" to be played at my only beloved Brother's funeral in 2003. I didn't realise it before his passing, he bought this Album by David Gray, and we listened to some songs together at his home in Brunswick. Caroline was one he said hey Sis, listen to the lyrics to Caroline. I wasn't thinking I would soon lose my beloved Brother, Lawrie. I love you every day Lawrie, your loving Dis, Judith xo
@@Blue_Fox142I never said David Gray did anything wrong , I'm just trying to describe what I think this song describes , what I think it describes is a bloke who realises he's made a big mistake marrying somebody
This song is so nostalgic to me because like when I was 7 my dad played it all the time on the way to my grandma's house in the car and it randomly got stuck in my head today it took me FOREVER to find this OMG it's such a good song and nostalgic (,:
Take your eyes off me There's nothing here to see Just trying to keep my head together As we make our vow Let us remember how There's nothing good that lasts forever Time out on the running boards We're running Through a world that's lost it's meaning Trying to find a way to love This running Ain't no kind of freedom Feel the touch of grief You stand in disbelief Can steal the earth from right beneath you And falling in so far They know just where you are Yea but there ain't no way to reach you Time out on the running boards We're running Through a world that's lost it's meaning Trying to find a way to love This running Ain't no kind of freedom Of freedom It's time to clean these boots Fold up these parachutes The word's goodbye But I can't say it The end is close at hand I think we understand There ain't no use trying to delay it Time out on the running boards We're running Through a world that lost it's meaning Trying to find a way to love This running Ain't no kind of freedom Freedom, freedom, freedom Time out on the running boards We're running Through a world that lost it's meaning Trying to find a way to love This running Ain't no kind of freedom Freedom, freedom, freedom Time out on the running boards We're running Through a world that lost it's meaning Trying to find a way to love This running Ain't no kind of freedom Freedom, freedom, freedom I'm bending to the task I know this work is never finished But if I close my eyes I can still see you dancing Laughing loud and undiminished Auteurs-compositeurs : David Gray
One of the greatest British songwriters ever. I sometimes wonder about his vocal style but then I remind myself to stop being churlish and enjoy the music.
Mate, I really wish you wrote then recorded this album in a similar tempo (BPM) as your White Ladder album. I used a website to split the tracks up so that your instruments and voice were isolated. I was left with 8 tracks from your Kangaroo song. I loaded each track into the DAW I own then muted each track except the drum loop. I changed the BPM so it roughly matched the tempo from Babylon. Then one by one I unmuted the other tracks including your vocals. It took me roughly 15 to 20 mins to get the vocals to sound like you and all I can say is wow. This song's amazing anyway but when the BPM is changed it sounds like a top 10 mate. When you're not doing anything and have some spare time give it a go you'll be shocked at just how great and relevant it sounds *today*
Why didn't you just listen to White Ladder again? Why would you want all of his songs to sound the exact same? I truly don't understand this logic whatsoever
What i like about this song besides the awsome sadness in the sense of nostalgia is the fact that this isn't about love. It's something else, since he is been with the same person since 1993 and this song was released in 2002. I just would like to know about what he implies on the song ifself.
Well, listening to the lyrics it seems to me that it's about the reflection on the world and the way of life today, as well as memories of the better times and saying goodbye to one's previous happier and freer self.
I might be being silly , but the comments seem to all see a different meaning to this song . I see it as the final few moments of a relationship , the wedding day is here and he doesn't want to take part

In truth I didn't love this album as much as its prior, but this long stands out as a true gem.
By listening to the lyrics, I feel as human beings, we can all relate to David Grey's poignant words.
His best album by far , and this song sums up the last moments of somebody who's made a big mistake
What do you mean? What did David Gray do?
I mean before it all goes wrong@@Blue_Fox142

No better songwriter. Ever. And the voice stylings, and musicianship. Inexplicable. Ingenius.
You people that gave David a dislike should connect with life and write one of your own. Give it a shot!
True words sang beautifully lovely tune
I love this man. Greatest concert I've been to, hands down.
Cleanest drummer man. Snappy drummer. Freaking awesome love this tune😊

Trying to find a way to love

Of freedom
It's time to clean these boots
Fold up these parachutes
The word's goodbye
But I can't say it
The end is close at hand
I think we understand
There ain't no use trying to delay it
Time out on the running boards
We're running
Through a world that lost it's meaning
Trying to find a way to love
This running
Ain't no kind of freedom

I would say he has been influenced by Van Morrison, his voice has a Van Morrison like quality to it,maybe a little Bob Dylan in there as well.
This beautiful song was played when Syd & Vaughn made love in season 2. Thanks for featuring this, Alias!
Going to see David live in March Leeds littrely can't wait

I believe the song is related to his father dying of cancer.
