I had the pleasure of joining Hoover Cambuslang in Sept. 1969 and did a 4 year apprenticeship in the Toolroom and then from Sept 1973 to Jan. 1981 working in the Toolroom.
Some great footage of the Cambuslang factory with Turbopower & Vortex cleaners on the production line. I have many Cambuslang built cleaners in my collection which are far better than the Chinese manufactured products of today. I’ll share this video with my social medial followers as I’m sure many of them would like to see it.
My mum and dad met working at the Hoover and are still together today . The Hoover Factory shutting was one reason cambuslang lost loads of the local shops because they lost vast amounts of trading.. The town has sadly not been the same since !

Very interesting. Thank you for posting. But what a sad story. I lived in North Wales when Hotpoint was the big employer. All gone now.

All thanks to my city North Canton, Ohio we have Hoover. But in 2007 they closed the HQ and moved to Mexico. Sad what happened.

This problem was in addition to cheap imports from the EEC
