As someone who produces model trains for a living, I have to say the nose shape on the loco is better than I've seen on most of the RTR OO scale versions! The only thing that looks odd is the bogie frames but my word, what a lovely 5" gauge loco you've built Martin. The cab detail is on another level!!!
Hi Mike, thank you for your kind words! This the first 5" guage loco I have ever made, although most of it is scratch built, the frame and bogies came ready cut and welded which might explain the slight discrepancy?
morning martin your 37 is the best i have ever seen it is a credit to your building skills there is only one problem martin i just wish it was mine simply fantastic all the best keith.
Really fantastic, Martin. Thank you for sharing. It seems to be tough for people to get the compound curves and angles of these diesel locomotives right but you've done it perfectly.
Great build looks quite accurate to me and I have very many years working on class 37's , desk looked different to what I remember they didn't have that big speedo
I love it, I would love to have something like that just for a showpiece on a shelf, but to have a garden setup would be brilliant. I dread to think how much that 37 would cost.
@@BinfieldWoodwork when 4 mm rtr has details that P4 modellers would have left out 30 years ago, then there is no excuse in 5” gauge for flat , no relief, detail less models. With a bit of subtle brake dust , diesel spillage and sun and rain fading your s will look even better. 👍
Hello, wonderful video, I was wondering if you still have the dimensions for the nose that you made as it is the most detailed nose for a 5” model that I’ve ever seen and I would quite like to replicate it in a different livery thanks, Billy
Hi Allan, thanks for your kind comments. With regards plans I have several sets of drawings in Corel Draw but I basically used a very high quality line drawing combined with loads of photos and drew it as I went along
@@BinfieldWoodwork I'm in the process of building a home design 71/4 class 37. Appreciate any of the 3d bits that you've drawn up. Yours is a stunning looking loco, it's given me a few ideas to use.
Fantastic build, certainly looks far better than the original body! Would you consider selling me a couple of those wicked front nose, so at least the front of mine would look like a 37
Wow. I am sometimes disappointed by diesel locos on miniature railways that are poor renditions of the original, particularly when the body shape is all wrong. This loco, however, is a work of art!
Amazing job by the the way do you have any tips for building a 7 1/4 gauge one it would be highly appreciated ❤ UPDATE: I have just bought a class 37 5 gauge in br green, its the one on my profile picture.
Very clever I am quite jealous and blown away of how a peace of wood can go into a class 37, great video 👍
Beautiful. Superbly executed.
That Sir was truly fantastic, a real inspiring story how you took metal, ply and plastic and made a masterpiece. thank you for sharing.
If you can dream it you can build it! Fantastic build well done! Incredible skill
Wonderful. (Loved the tea mug too)

Thank you very much Keith, I'm truly flattered
Mr and Mrs O are greatly impressed and can't wait until the next project emerges from the Bell engine shed
Superb, great namer too. Captured the looks of a Class 37 really well. Crying out for light, tasteful weathering.
Awesome! Well done!
Martin, that is truly stunning. Well done.
Thanks!

I’ve been in the cab of 37424, it’s just like this down to the DRS sticker on the nose door
Very nicely built.
Love it, excellent work. Also love the Vulcan.

Looks absolutely brilliant
Brill....craftsmanship at its best
Absolutely brilliant work 👍
Attention to detail is amazing.
Stunning. Fantastic job.
What a beauty.
Amazing ! 👍😃
Looks fantastic, can't wait to see it running for real
Good looking engine, love the laser cut ply framing and cab build up. Excellent result I like that better than a grp shell.
Hi, it's interesting you say that because I was very disappointed in the detailing on the grp shell and that's why I decided to build it from scratch

Amazing piece of kit 👌
man you deserve more subscribers
Well done!
I love it.
Absolutely superb! 👏🏼👏🏼👍🏻👍🏻❤️
excellent job it looks so awesome and runs nice
Very nice 😎👍!
That is an absolute work of art! Fantastic looking loco! would you mind me asking how you made your buffers from round to oval please?
No problems, I made an oval template, then marked them with a scribe, cut and filed them to shape!
Superb!
Awesome.
Fantastic model.. Can I ask, where the chassis was from?
I bought it from Bexhill Engineering who no longer exist they were bought out by:
www.apmodelengineering.co.uk/5in-class-37.html
if you arent too far from cambridge and want to come and run it with scale coaches ect let me know, lovely looking loco.
That is awesome! Only one problem... you didn't use Legomanbiffo sounds!
would you consider building any more, it's the very best i've seen. ??
wow I love it great work and it looks so real i wouldn't mind one myself how much do they cost to build about, £4k+
@@justinobrien3593 Hi, thanks for the positive comments, I've tried to work out build costs and would say that it is 3-4k at a guess

How did you make the interior cab detail and framework was it a kit etc

what speed controller does it use
Mtroniks DCi120-24 with the sound module
@@BinfieldWoodwork ah yes, we use both of them for our class 55 but the sound module costs more than the actual speed controller 😂

I'm having a go at my own design 71/4 class 37. It's getting very heavy very quickly
How dose something like this cost factoring the time it would take to biuld as I would to have a pair of these biult
Hi Bradley, I can't really put a price on it as it was a one off hobby project
How many hours did you put into the project over 16 months?
Hi do you know what the overall weight is? Its a lovely model!
No, sorry, it's blinking heavy, with the batteries in two of us would struggle to lift it!
@@BinfieldWoodwork Thank you have you any video of the 37 hauling passengers?
Wowza. How much does it cost to build?.
I didn't keep a tally but I would guess at about £2500
