hey ik its been 7 months, but i just wanna say, I've been interpreting this song to be about depression and passive su1cidal ideations. Sometimes with depression, it can make it feel like you (specifically, as a person) are just too dumb or too useless or too undeserving of things, especially good things. So, others can find their favorite things that they lost, but not you. You can't. Because you are just intrinsically stuck inside a man-eating sand and you will never be or get better. Now, the favorite bag can also be a metaphor for the “you” who said the speaker was beautiful, either because of eternal loss or they just grew apart. But the “you” can also be literal and the verse combined with “desire, aspire, require” just shows how depression often just makes your uplifting memories, hope, dreams, and even like daily tasks to “blend into mud” or basically became aimless and doesn't feel like any of it matters. “Shut the world out” is something depressed people tends to do, like isolating themselves from the world so they won't need to face it, but it often just worsen the symptoms and therefore everything just “keeps growing grey”. With ideations, I put up the verse about the speaker's soul going down the drain as evidence. Passive ideation often takes form in coincidental or almost-impossible ways of dy1ng inthe form that the speaker was not actively doing something, but they hoped things would happen that would off them. Like a drunk driver suddenly hitting them when they were walking, or maybe the bridge railing just falls off while they're leaning against it, or maybe a lightning strike, or maybe in their sleep they just passed away, or MAYBE the rain just fell on them, takes their soul, and it just all flow down the drain and they can just not exist anymore. lol
