  • VAN BUILD 08: Building Bed Frame
    After gutting and polishing the van interior (Van Build 01 & 02), insulating and installing my sub-floor and vinyl floor (Van Build 03 & 04), installing my Maxxair fan (Van Build 05) and DIYing some custom insulated window covers (Van Build 06). I recently started actually building things! I built my wheel well boxes (Van Build 07) and this video I will build out my bed frame! I chose to have a fixed bed frame in my van.

    After living abroad in Barcelona, Spain for a year, moving back home to South Louisiana, getting a new job, quarantining through the pandemic and taking adventures while I can, I decided to purchase a van to build and renovate with the goal of traveling around the US van life style as a solo female traveler. This is completely new to me, I am super excited to see where this journey will take me, and I am definitely learning new things along the way.

    Your use of the hangers for the bed frame is great.I don't think I've ever seen anyone use them before.The van is looking awesome.

    Use wood screws when screwing into wood, and sheet metal screws when screwing into the van metal. And pocket hole screws in pocket holes. You are doing a great job Sarah, you represent my birth state well, Louisiana. Keep doing what you are doing, every task gets you closer to the finished product.

  • @f350dwood
    @f350dwood ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just a little bit of advice. You are leveling your bed. Make sure your van is fairly level or it will come out wrong. If the van is fairly level then you will be fine.

    • @SaySarah
      @SaySarah  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I took into account the unlevelness of the van... it came out a little unlevel but with the weight of my water tank I'm sure it will balance out! fingers crossed

    Hey Sarah, we're thinking of using this method to do the bed frame in our van! Just curious, how has it held up so far? Thanks for any info. We've been following along on your whole build. Sorry to see about the leak in the last episode... :\

    • @SaySarah
      @SaySarah  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How did you attach the 2 x6 to the van walls please ? Love your stuff

    • @SaySarah
      @SaySarah  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Check out video 13 where I finally get back to that! While I intended on attaching the 2x6s to the wall for the main support, it wasn't practical, but we did end up putting a couple of screws in just to keep it in place, but relying on the legs for general support!

    Hi Sarah, I couldn’t tell from the video but are you using the Kreg Jig pocket screws? Just a word of advice you really should not use any other type of screw because the joint will very likely work itself lose over time with all the vibration of driving. Also a bit of glue on the joint won’t hurt. Good luck.

    • @SaySarah
      @SaySarah  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not.... lol I didn't realize there were special screws for that hahah but I am reenforcing them so hopefully they will hold up!

    • @SaySarah
      @SaySarah  ปีที่แล้ว

      Noted for next time!

    • @Theonebaddude
      @Theonebaddude ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SaySarah ok reinforcing the joint is good but if you get the Kreg Jig bit and screws you wont have to do that extra work. I know it’s a pain but not as big a pain as parts of your build failing. Remember every time you drive it’s at least a 4.0 magnitude earthquake in your van. Poor joinery WILL fail. Good luck.

    I'm assuming that your Van is level because using a level in an unlevel Van wouldn't help get things level

    • @SaySarah
      @SaySarah  ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely took that into account so I wasn't too worried but wanted to get a general idea of where it was sitting... it actually ended up leaning to one side, but the other side of my van will be a tad heavier with the water tank so I'm assuming/hoping it will balance itself out!
